What culture are you referring to? He is nothing like McGahee in terms of presentation at the very least. Newton has no similarity to Russell. Culpepper was a good QB for a long time. Vince Young is a head case. Newton has not displayed any traits of a head case. In fact, Newton has played great while under pressure on the field, but more importantly off the field. Nobody would fit into the part of Buffalo culture that is assumptive and arrogantly judgemental about people who are perceived as different in some way from "normal" Buffalonians. Yet, these people never tell the board what makes a "normal" Buffalonian.

Mock Draft with Bills Picking #3 & #9
purple haze replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Have you been watching these games? OLB-MLB-DE-OLB-MLB-RT. If I have to watch another Sunday of an opponent running down the Bills' throats and QB's having a couple beers while they wait for a WR to get open I'm going to jump out of a ground floor window. -
Mallet in the top 5? No way. At 25 sure.

I want to see another quarterback competition next year
purple haze replied to PS 56's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edwards played better leading up to the season. They're coaches not fortune tellers. Damn... Be happy they pulled the plug on him when they realized he didn't have it when the live bullets started flying. Jauron would have kept him in there. Sometimes things appear one way then turn out to be something else. But you don't know until you know. -
Plenty of better ones and they all play defense. Fairley, Dareus, Bowers, Quinn, Peterson, Miller, Ayers, etc. etc.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
purple haze replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Picking Spiller and switching to the 34 were moves for the future. Not arrogant at all. The Bills got rolled up the past couple years running the 43. The bottom line is they have to get personnel that fits the 34. They started last April and will continue in 2011. Change takes time. Be patient or be on the message board whining, but that won't change anything either. -
If he went to Cornell he went to Cornell. It doesn't matter what Department he was admitted to. If the school offers that program they see value in it. Because it's not something you might consider the "school of engineering" does not mean it wasn't a rigorous program. I'm sure it was. Ivy League schools don't trade in half-assed programs. No matter what the field of study. It would be bad for their brand and that brand is extremely important to all of the Ivies. That being said attendance at Harvard does not necessarily make Fitz any more intelligent than the next guy or girl. There are all types of ways for people to learn and gain knowledge. I find, in my experience, that folks who don't have an Ivy League degree make a bigger deal out of it than the actual graduates of Ivy League institutions.

Spiller not doing to Bad!!!
purple haze replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No he doesn't have to come in and be a game breaker from day one. It would be nice, yeah, but he doesn't have to do that to validate anything. It's a marathon not a sprint. He has to learn the game like any other rookies. Some adjust faster than others. It's not like he hasn't shown his potential at all. He has. Look at Darren McFadden. It's taken him a few years, but finally the league is seeing his best and he's been a beast this season. All of this immediate gratification that's sweeping America now needs to cease. It's not realistic and rarely happens. Spiller should be fine. He's running harder, taking what's there better than he was earlier in the season. He's learning his lessons. Patience. -
As long as he doesn't play like him I will go along with it. LoL

Do you really think Evans doesn't work on the craft of being a receiver? Really? Come on, man! Does Evans call the plays and routes he will run?? BTW I have seen him run slants, crossing patterns and "in" routes as long ago as... THIS SEASON.

Looks like Leach landed in College Park,
purple haze replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Expectations aren't low. That's why Friedgen got forced out. Declining season ticket sales the past five seasons. People are tired of the mediocrity. When Fridge first came back the Terrapins were in the Orange Bowl and a few other pretty good bowl games. Then they started hitting the bottom bowls. I'm a MD fan. Glad they got Leach. Might work out and might not, but time to for them to go all in. Expectations will be high. Trust me. If MD doesn't start doing big things he will be run out of town. There is a civil war in Terp land right now. Everybody loved Fridge, but a lot of us wanted to turn the page and try to go to the next level. Others think Fridge, being an alum who brought the program out of the woods, is being mistreated and are pissed. Either way Leach better be on point. -
Gailey said what he said. You are making it what you want it to be. He said the game gets more intense, which does not necessarily mean that Spiller lacks intensity. Spiller has to learn how to run against a step up in competition. Preseason he was killing teams. Not as easy to do when the games count and there is a game plan to take away his strengths. Every team they play knows he can break one at any time. HE wants to break one at every time and that was his issue. I would say a man who lacks fire wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to make something out of nothing; he would see no hole and just go down at first contact. His impatience with the ball denotes a man with confidence. But confidence alone won't make him effective. We saw him hit the ball between the tackles and take what he could get against Cleveland. That's a good thing. Seems like he might be learning. There is no controversy at all except what "journalists" or some impatient fans want to turn into one.

I don't think Gailey is calling him out because CJ has probably heard this from him already face to face, man to man a long time ago. Gailey doesn't seem the type to have to go through the media to get a point across. I just think he's a st8 shooter and says what's on his mind or that he's not going to say what's on his mind although he might have an opinion. Nix and Gailey have conducted interviews this way from the start. Spiller already knows what he needs to do. He plays. He just has to earn more trust from the coach. No big deal. It's hard to earn the trust though when the coach is preparing the team for the next opponent. Remember what he said about Maybin? The time to show what he could do was in preseason and now that the season has started and game plans are being put in it's difficult to show what he can do at that point? Spiller is getting carries, but Fred is a more complete back right now so Fred gets more. Simple, really. Spiller has to learn how to run in the NFL. Ryan Mathews is having the same issue in San Diego. Spiller hit the ball north and south last sunday and took what was there instead of trying to turn everything into a game changer. See if he gets rewarded with more carries this Sunday.

Just stop there. You got it EXACTLY right. The players play the game. The truth of the matter is the Bills don't have enough talent overall in the front seven. They do make plays during the games, but not consistently. They made plays against the Lions, Bengals, Steelers and Browns. Even thought they still couldn't stop the run. The problem isn't the scheme. The problem is the players executing the scheme. A couple years back some people wanted Perry Fewell out as DC because they were so bad. Now in NY where he has some Pro Bowl talent he's considered one of the top coordinators in the league and is a head coaching candidate. Let Edwards get some legit players who can rush the passer before you throw him overboard. Defense is playing a lot better than they did earlier in the year.

Official Shanahan Thread
purple haze replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure that's what he thought he did this season hiring Shanny and Bruce Allen. Shanny has to put his ego aside; get a different Offensive Coordinator and stop trying to put players in their place when they are veterans several years into their career or beyond. -
He told the truth. How often over the years have the Bengals been underachieving? Mike Brown has been at the forefront. Marvin Lewis should be out. TO didn't say anything that incendiary. People on this board say similar about Mr. Wilson. Why can't an employee share that opinion? TO is producing at a high level. Palmer has gone belly-up the past couple years even though they made the playoffs last season. He is clearly not the QB he looked like he would be during his first couple seasons. That's not TO's fault or OchoCinco's fault. Bengals are a mess and have been for years.

The Big White elephant in the Room
purple haze replied to Bills99999's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude or Dudette, how old are you? You say Newton's not classy, but then talk about his father. His father is one person. Cam Newton is a separate person. Come on now. -
The Big White elephant in the Room
purple haze replied to Bills99999's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not smart? How do you know this? Not down to earth? How do you know this? Not a family man? He's 22 or 23 how many people of that age are family men? Not Irish-Catholic is the one true statement you made. -
Down on Spiller? Look at McFadden.
purple haze replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. Ryan Mathews isn't tearing it up in San Diego either. Like u say sometimes things take time. Spiller will be very good sooner than later. -
Obviously Bills Are Going Defense With First Pick
purple haze replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cam Newton and JaMarcus Russell are in NO WAY comparable outside of complexion and being from the South. Period. No work ethic issues with Newton. Newton is infinitely more mobile. Newton has displayed leadership qualities Russell never displayed. Netwon plays best in big games regardless of pressure off the field. Newton is more accurate. Russell had a cannon for an arm. Netwon has a strong arm. -
Offensive line much improved

Big Ups From Ditka This Morning
purple haze replied to RevWarRifleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills played hard in Minny. They had too many TO's to recover from. Put them in bad situations. They had 3 INT's themselves and couldn't capitalize on enough of them. They played hard in that game too. Just TOO many mistakes. -
There were probably fifty something thousand tickets sold. I believe they go by tickets sold, not the number of people that actually showed up to use them. Could be wrong though.
-
I like Bowers over Dareus because I think Bowers will play OLB in a 34. If not Bowers I would rather have Fairly than Dareus although Dareus can definitely ball. I think Fairly is nastier and sets an attitude with the defense on top of making plays.

What if the Panthers DON'T draft Luck
purple haze replied to saundena's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Palmer has gone belly up. If Luck comes out and Carolina passes on him (which they won't), Cinci would scoop him up faster than Nix did Spiller. Question is does Cinci snatch up Newton if Luck is off the board and Newton continues to do well in pre-draft workouts??
