Come on, man. You can't be serious. First, he did okay in the championship game for a guy who hadn't played in a month and was injured during the game. And his team won. And a team doesn't draft or not draft a player based on one game anyway. That would make them incompetent. Not even wonderlic will make that much difference. It's a bunch of general knowledge questions that has no bearing on his football IQ. If the wonderlic was 50 questions about football related information it would mean something. I don't even believe the wonderlic as it is is a good measure of intelligence.

They could trade down, pick up extra picks, still get Newton and fix the trenches. IF things break right. I wouldn't call Newton a luxury pick. Bills will need a QB sooner or later.

We can play that game all day. How many of those players had Newton's physical gifts? Who had his arm strength, but not his mobility? Who had his mobility, but not his arm strength? Who had his arm strength and mobility, but not his size? Who had his intangibles? There are no guarantees and if the Bills take Fairley or Dareus or Peterson or Green or Miller or any other player they could tank too. Looking up Heisman winners is meaningless because we could make just as long a list for Butkus winners or Thorpe winners or whatever award winner. The NFL is a hard league and no player is a sure thing at any position.

It's not about Blinn. It's about success. He was successful there. He was successful at Auburn. Why wouldn't he continue to be successful? Those positive traits you mentioned about Newton were also probably influenced by his parents as well. Maybe Cecil Newton isn't all bad, huh?

Ability to read defenses is a question all this year's QB have to answer because most of them did not play in a pro style offense where they were required to read defenses. That's not a criticism that applies only to Newton. Also, remember during this time of year that scouts and NFL personnel men will throw out misinformation for different purposes. 1.) To influence opinion on a player they actually want. So they float rumor or lies to attempt to weaken his stock enough to grab him. 2.) To see how the player reacts to the criticism. Does he self-destruct? Does he set out to prove the opinions wrong? Does it affect him at all? Because you hear something about a player does not mean the scouts or personnel men actually believe that about the player. Newton led his JUCO to a national title before he got to Auburn. You might not want to count that, but the scouts will. Why? Because winning is winning. Newton is used to winning. He's used to leading his team successfully. He did it in JUCO then guess what? He did it again at Auburn. Like Buddy Nix said last year, players who have been successful over a period of time usually continue to be successful. Arthur Moats and Danny Batten where small college players who were successful. Neither played in a BCS conference and Nix drafted them so it must not be a pre-requisite that that success comes only in big conferences. Newton happens to have been successful at multiple levels. That's not a one year wonder. Newton screwed up and had to leave Florida. He had to go to college football's minor league. He didn't wash out. He led his team to a national title and he stood out in doing so. His play earned him another chance in the SEC. He outperformed his competition in spring ball and won the starting job. He led his team to comeback wins at home and on the road. In the middle of an adversity filled period when allegations were being made against him and his family on television, newspapers, magazines and blogs, he seemed to play better each week. That's indicative of a strong mind, an ability to focus on his work, an ability to rise to the occasion in spite of external pressure. A lot of people were waiting for him to fail. Many others were hoping he failed. He did not. The bigger the game the better he played: big game player. Got injured in the Championship game. He didn't play his best game by far, but he TOUGHED it out and still led his team to the victory. His teammates obviously followed his lead. They rallied around him and it was easy to see week in and week out. That does not happen if they don't respect him. And remember this is a guy who is in his first year in the program. He had to earn that respect. His strong work ethic has been written about. Call the media day session whatever you will, but it also showed the young man has been working diligently on his skills and has stayed in shape. He did not have to go get a QB coach to help him strengthen his game, but he did. He did not have to take on Warren Moon as an advisor and welcome his feedback, but he did. He's nothing if not serious about football. He's also very polished in front of the camera. He's a guy who has charisma. He has "it." Faces of franchises have this quality. There are questions about any rookie prospect and Newton is no different. But there's a lot to like about Newton outside of 6'6" 250, strong arm, can make all the throws and has good mobility.

I agree. But 10 years of losing will do that to folks. There is a lot of cynicism and pessimism running wild these days. That being said, Poz is an average player. Not enough impact plays, particularly in the backfield or near the line of scrimmage. I would like to seem him resigned. He's a good team guy. He's an okay player. He just shouldn't be counted on to be the best MLB on the field though. I don't know that there is any amount of work he can do to turn into a game changer. That is a skill in and of itself and some players have it and others don't. Maybe he proves us wrong in the end. The Bills need game changers all over the field. Poz is a "Robin." We need Batman.

Stanford. There were questions about whether Newton could take snaps from center, make NFL style drops (3, 5, 7 steps) and still throw the ball accurately. Yesterday he showed he could. That was something that wasn't a definite leading in to his demonstration yesterday.

ALL the QB's will have to learn to read defenses. That's not saying anything. It's early yet. Mayock's opinion could very well change.

Watch Cleveland trying to get up from number 6 to draft AJ Green. They need a number 1 WR badly. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Green linked to the Bills in rumors as the draft gets closer and the Bills would be the ones starting them.

The owners have yet to show their books from what Smith says. Why should he negotiate when it's not truly known how much money the owners make? That would not be intelligent. The players don't need to do a thing, actually. They don't want to change the CBA. The owners do. So let the owners put an offer on the table . Nobody wants a lockout because everyone will lose money. But the truth of it is, unless the owners are willing to put scabs on the field, they don't have as much power as you want to give them credit for. How long do you think they wan to go without making money and having millions of dollars in debt service to repay? How much money would they lose if they put scabs on the field? If the players are willing to not make money for a while they have the power. They ARE the product. The owners have stadium and other debts to repay. But power doesn't come without a willingness to sacrifice. We'll see if they are willing to call the owners bluff. But I don't see how you think Smith is so much worse than Goodell in this scenario.

This is the very reason people should calm down about Mr. Wilson. We can be critical of his ownership at times for good reason. However, when it comes to the future of the Bills we have to think reasonably. The Bills are his legacy. The Buffalo Bills that is. The man named a stadium after himself so he seems to care about that. He is also a successful businessman in general. Put those two things together and I think we wouldn't be wrong to assume that man has a plan of what will come of his businesses, including the Bills. The Bills in Buffalo means Mr. Wilson's name lives on forever. He's not going to detail what his plans are because he doesn't have to. Also because public knowledge could cause something to get off track for whatever reason. I wouldn't worry about the Bills moving anywhere. Give him his gratitude now for bringing a team to B-Lo and keeping it there when he could have moved them years ago. Hasn't always been a perfect product. Been a lot of angst, a lot of heartbreak and some great thrills too. There has been success and there will be again. Mr. Wilson knows what that team means to WNY and what WNY means to that organization. But think about this: the Bills have existed since my father was in fourth grade. He turns 60 in June. Mr. Wilson is still the owner. That is crazy!

We have Stevie who did what he did for one season. Lee Evans will be 30 years old soon. Yes, they need to address the front 7 on defense, but who says that has to happen in round one? There are 7 rounds in the draft. If they took Green that wouldn't be a bad pick at all. He's an elite talent. Great hands. Runs all the routes. Runs well after the catch. Can go deep. Makes difficult catches in traffic. And has a history of production that Nix speaks of liking in draft picks. Maybe Green comes in and Lee is the slot guy. Or maybe Lee is traded and the Bills get another pick or two in the draft. Elite talent is what the Bills need all across the board at any position they can find them. If they stay at number 3 any player is an option. Green and Peterson are viable options. There are no LB's, at this point, who are top 5 picks. Not even Von Miller as good as he was at A&M.

That works when you have a Revis or Cromartie. And Jason Taylor and Shaun Ellis. We better hope Free Agency happens and we get a gift or two for the front 7.

Just because those are the premier positions doesn't mean premier talent will always be available at those positions. Who is picked should depend on potential impact. If that's a safety so be it. Eric Berry did very well this past season.

So what? How did Love do the other 12 games he played this year? Or last year? We, as fans, have got to stop seeing someone not do well in one game and question whether the player is any good. Every player will lose some battles or have a bad game or two. Doesn't mean they can't play. Elway and Marino threw interceptions. Would you take them as your QB? Scouts judge a body of work as opposed to one game for a reason. Likewise one great game doesn't mean a player can play.

Every big name FA, I would contend, is overpayed. Which is why they are allowed to walk away by their former team in a lot of cases. I don't think the Bills have overpaid for a mediocre player to play in B-Lo. Can you give us a for instance? Most of the people they sign, i.e. Davis, Edwards, even Green, were for average money in the grand scheme. At the time they gave Dockery 7 years 49 million most reports that I read at the time considered him a good signing, based on age and ability. That was a big contract. I agree they need to turn young players into good players. But every team needs to do that. Winning does help, I agree with that as well. The Bills can run with the big boys in the money game because they haven't spent exorbitantly on big ticket players the past few seasons. They have money to spend. Outbidding other team's is the way of free agency. That's how it goes. Bills are in no different a boat than the other teams. The Bears outbid everybody for Peppers. If a team had topped the Bears there is a good chance Peppers would have gone there. It comes down to how much a team wants a particular player. If a team wants a particular player they won't offer the same amount of money as they can get somewhere else. They will leave no doubt in the players mind that they want him.

Stop with this inferiority complex. Pay players. Some will come. Bills don't try to sign many "big name" players. The ones they do try to sign are lower tiered. Lower tiered guys get more offers. Everybody tries to get those types of players because they are the bread and butter of the league. The Bills get their share of those players. Big name, star players are courted by a fewer teams. Bills don't put themselves in that ring usually. So the whole team/location thing is a red herring. If the Bills chose to show the bigger name players the money they could get their share of them too.

Stop watching highlights and watch the games. Dareus is a STUD. A DL can affect the games in more ways than just getting sacks or TL. Look at Kyle Williams eat up blockers or disrupt plays. Bowers is good on the pass rush. Not as impressed in the run game although he has the potential to do that well consistently. Quinn was out for the year so I can't speak to what type of shape he will be in come combine time.

You can take that view of it. One could also take the view that fans who don't want to hear what Whitner has to say can stop going to his twitter page or they can stop reposting the things he says there that irritates them so much. It cuts both ways. Just like you can come here and post what you want he can post what he wants on his page. Maybe he perceives fans as being disrespectful and that has become cemented in his mind. The reality is most fans probably couldn't care less what he says on Twitter or are willing to say what many people in this thread have said: He's an okay player, seems to work hard and play hard. For the right price he should stay. If not, he can go and they will get someone else. Fewer fans act like cyber-gangsters and talk a whole lot of mess they would never in two lifetimes say to the man's face because they know they are going too far. I can't blame a man for defending himself. Someone probably tweeted him or sent him a message and he responded to it with those tweets. Whitner's right. We don't always know everything. And sometimes what we think is the case is not the case. We don't call the defense or know everyone's responsibility within the particular call. No, he doesn't cover TE's well. That doesn't mean whenever a TE is running free and we see him in the picture that it was his coverage on a particular play. At the end of the day a defenders job is to try to stop the man with the ball regardless of whether it was his man or not.
