Whitner rated by ESPN experts as #7 overall saftey in NFL
purple haze replied to pmak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see your two cents and raise it two more cents. Dead on. Whitner and the Bills are having a business issue not a football one. If he comes at their price they want Whitner. That's obvious. He already makes more than 3 million from his rookie contract. They would give him a raise on general principal. They just won't get crazy with how much of a raise. Nix saying he probably won't be back is not him saying that he has no intentions of retaining Whitner. It's more like Whitner doesn't want to resign for the money we offered and he's going elsewhere. -
DFlo and McGee are the same age. And no reason to cut him. He can still play when healthy. Reduce his workload. Florence/Williams start. The one who doesn't and McGee become the nickel and dime package CB's.
-
He didn't say that. He said Whitner doesn't want to be there and probably won't. The fact that he put a tender on him before the lockout started should tell us something. The fact that Nix also said, around that same time, that it was up to Donte whether he wanted to come back or not also should tell us something. The Bills want him back. They want him back at their price though. That's business related. Not football related. Gailey has praised Whitner many times for his contributions. The amount of Whitner bashing is tiresome. He's not as bad as he's made out to be. He definitely hasn't played like a Polamalu or Reed. True enough. But he's okay. I like the Searcy pick. Bring in some true competition for that position and see if Whitner raises his game. What I hear in Nix's comments are that he think Whitner will sign elsewhere. But if 2010 rules are used this season Whitner will be back whether he wants to be back or not. And on a side note. For all the Whitner is a whiner talk a lot of fans are no better whining about Whitner whining. LoL. Stay off his twitter and it won't be an issue...

It's pretty embarrassing, reading this board sometimes...
purple haze replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your're right. Some posters are nothing but trolls. They shouldn't even be responded to. Nix got depth at RB (which was needed), DB's (For possible starters and depth). And BTW, if folks would LISTEN Nix said they would probably draft a DB before the draft started. So I don't know why all the shock. He also said they would get an OT in draft or FA and he drafted Hairston in the fourth. FA has yet to start. It was a good three days for the Bills for anyone who is serious about wanting to see this team get better. Defense was the way to go. -
Lord have mercy... He looks like two face Harvey Dent.
-
WIlliams was definitely worthy of the fourth overall pick when he was drafted. He just didn't play worth a damn. But coming out he was a good pick. Who knew?
-
Dude get out with the Wilson hype. He's not as accomplished as Sheppard. Period. If the Bills turn into a track and field team then Wilson is a layup. Bills need football players. And Gailey coached the guy for a full week longer than he coached Wilson. He knows what he's getting. Wilson could turn out to be great. So could Sheppard. Sheppard has a longer body of work from which to make that claim too. Watch some games on NFL Network and count the number of spread formation 3 and 4 WR sets teams are running. Then look at the state of the Bills secondary and tell us again they don't need a DB. They most certainly did and it's obvious. Williams is a big DB, physical and versatile. Could have gone in the late first.

If he's the nickel back he's basically a starter. It's a passing league. Many teams run three and four receiver sets consistently. Need more than two corners. Stop complaining. The Bills needed a DB. And won't be surprised if they draft another. A nickel back is a starter in todays NFL. FB position has been replaced by an extra WR. -

Biggest Surprise Not Drafted in Rd1?

I believe Ingram winds up in New Orleans. And Ryan Williams and Mikel LeShoure could be really good backs. Taiwan Jones as well. -

A.J Green will be the # 3 pick
purple haze replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Green is the best WR in the draft. There is a consensus if the person talking is talking about actual football games played and not combine workouts. Green is the better receiver and watching their games will make it obvious. Jones is good, but he does not play as fast as he ran at the combine, he drops passes, his route running is not as sharp as Green's. Green catches everything, everywhere on the field. Would you pass on Jerry Rice? He was thin and even thinner the year he was drafted. You are worried about Green's physique, but what was he doing in the highlights you watched? And what year were those highlights from? You could find more from each year he played at Georgia. If the Bills took him don't be upset. He's a great talent. -
nfl channel seems to think Peterson for the Bills
purple haze replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You make good points. But do you recall Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson? Those guys were shutdown corners. QB's could rarely throw on them. That gives DL and LB's more time to get to the QB. Peterson has that type of potential. Also, I agree the Bills need more on the DL. BUT there is a deep well of D-linemen in this draft. There will be several available at pick #34. So why not take the player that is not as easily found? There is only one Peterson and one Miller in this draft. Dareus is good, but Heyward or Ballard or Clayborn could be good too and one of them will be there at 34. -
Nix for the love of all that is holy
purple haze replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What if he's great? Why do you think so negatively? They will have to draft a QB sooner or later for the future and that guy will be a toss up just like any other draft pick. -
Chan's Comments to NFLN

He was up to 246 at the combine and ran a 4.52. Seemed plenty fast and quick to me even with the added weight. -
Hey Nix: We have the WORST run defense in the league
purple haze replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, the draft is more than one round long. Troup and Carrington will improve and both will be on the field a lot this season and in Carrington's case, might start. There are good Defensive Linemen available in round two who could start or fit into the rotation. Fitz is okay. If a difference maker QB is there, even if he has to sit for a while, they would be negligent not to take him. -
Anyone Else Hear Jerry Sullivan on WGR Monday?
purple haze replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's no guarantee either. Glenn Dorsey was supposed to be a superstar. We can go down the list of defensive linemen who tanked. I love Dareus' game, but he's no layup. Neither is anyone else. So a team should take the player they feel confident in and has the highest upside in the long run if they pan out. -
If the Bills don't grab Newton at 3 I don't think they take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd. I think they totally focus on defense, unless an OT is available they can't pass up.
-
Appreciate your confidence, but if Newton is there at 3 he will be playing in Orchard Park. Gabbert, I agree. I don't think they want him at three. If they trade down maybe. Newton, I believe, winds up in Carolina though. So Miller or Dareus at three. My dark horse is Peterson if Miller goes to Broncos. Draft is deep with D-linemen and Bills could snatch a good one at #34.
-
They have run stuffing D-linemen in the 2nd round too. And the third should have some good ones. Draft is deep with D linemen. Don't have to get one at #3 although Dareus would be a great pick. But the depth at the position allows for the Bills to explore different directions. Keep that in mind on Thursday night. Green is the better WR and it's obvious. Watch their games. Green's hands are like glue in every situation. He runs better routes. He plays the game faster than Julio too. Julio is a better blocker, but Green does try. Julio is a good player with great potential. Green is a great player with great potential. He's very polished already. Julio's workout has everyone buzzing, but he doesn't play that fast, doesn't get the separation that Green does on his routes and drops passes from time to time. If Green was lined up with Stevie and Lee you would love him quickly.

Adam Schefter: Denver is taking Miller at 2
purple haze replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All four of those guys are elite athletes and potential impact players going forward. No reason to puke if the Bills choose between any of them. -

purple haze replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ayers isn't an ILB. And he shouldn't be put on the inside. Don't get caught up in "numbers." He can move well enough where he belongs. On the outside. He's not consistent though so beware. -
That's a big assumption on your part. They will ride Kyle Williams until the wheels fall off. Like Nix said, he fits into any defense because he's a player. Whatever they run, Williams will have a place in it. They can kick him out to DE in 40 fronts and Dareus and Troup play tackle or many other variations. I used to say Williams didn't fit a 34 defense until he was tearing up every week last season. He's one of those guys who can just play no matter what. Love that dude's game.
