  1. Bills looked very good last preseason and so did Trent Edwards. He was cut by week three and the Bills went to 0-8. Of course you want to see good things, but not seeing them is no guarantee they will be terrible when the season starts, just like them doing well would be no guarantee it would continue when the season started.
  2. Man, why bother to post common sense? Too many people on here would rather complain about everything. They won't listen to you.
  3. Dude, can you post what is actually said instead of what you want to hear? Nobody said it was done. They said they were talking about it.
  4. Would have nothing to do with salary. He doesn't make that much money. More likely they have confidence in those young WR's and want them to be able to play.
  5. A good amount of information given during the 24 hour news cycle is not even newsworthy. Just busy "noise." And it leads to a lot of erroneous information or outright misinformation being "reported." So I'm all for multiple sources of news.
  6. Of course they can. A few more years away from nine wins? In what world? They could have easily won nine games last year, with the bad offensive line, inconsistent QB play and bad run defense. Chicago, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, KC and Miami in the opener were all games that could have been "W's". Returning players can get better. New players can make contributions. Energy on a team can morph into winning attitudes, Coaching can get better now that the coach has been with a majority of the players for a time and understands strengths and weaknesses. Projections are meaningless. It only matters what happens when the games are played. We will see soon enough. I don't believe in giving up or relenting to assumptions. Straighten your back and keep your chin up. If the other teams are so much better than the Bills then let them prove it to you. Don't assume anything.
  7. Why do you and so many people keep harping on the TE position. The Bills use a spread offense. TE is not that important right now. I'm sure if he had a very good one Gailey would use him, but I don't believe it's so important to him that Nix feels the need to go out and splurge on one.
  8. No reason to complain about this signing. All teams sign players to take a look at them. No big deal. Except on the message boards where everything turns out to be a big deal to somebody.
  9. Of course it does. No Buffalo Bills nobody remembers Ralph Wilson. He's relevant as long as the Bills are in Buffalo, NY.
  10. Your last sentence is the one to analyze. You don't disagree that the position could/should be upgraded. You are dealing with the reality of this season and where we are in Buddy's rebuild... So if Buddy is rebuilding, and Poz's position could/should eventually be upgraded, why resign Poz to a big money contract? If the Bills are rebuilding and can do better at the position then keeping him because fans don't think they have a better option this season is not a reason to keep Poz around. He should only be kept around at the right cost. What is the right cost? We will find out. I wouldn't mind seeing Poz return, but the Bills can find better players at that position and might have drafted one in Kelvin Sheppard. Poz is pretty good, but he hasn't shown himself to be a difference maker.
  11. LB's job to read and react. DL's job to penetrate or tie up blockers depending on the call. But NO LB is going to always have a clean path to the ball. They have to explode into a blocker, shed the blocker and make a play. Or they have to be fast/quick enough to flow through the junk and get to the rock. Poz does not do this on a regular basis. I promise you, if Patrick Willis were playing in ILB for the Bills we wouldn't be having this conversation. Poz is not an explosive, powerful athlete. Bottom line. Poz is average. Good to keep around for continuity and character and decent play, but those players are on a team at the right cost. If the Giants want to overpay let him walk because the Bills can do better. Is Poz truly worth 8 million year? You mention the DL, but Kyle Williams is a Pro Bowler. And he plays dead center in that defense. So he's a part of Poz's problem? I don't think so. If Poz comes back that's fine with me. If he walks that's fine with me too. And if his name were Paul Jones I think most folks would see it that way.
  12. He'll still get more money than he's ever seen before. Not bad news at all if one thinks of it that way. Can't miss what he never had, right? 50 million is great. But I wouldn't be mad at 10 million or 20 million either if all I ever had in my pocket is 20's. LoL
  13. They will resign their own players and work on extensions for some others who have deals expiring in the next year. Nix said they want to keep their own good players. Read this write up on the 49ers plan. This is the same type plan Nix has said he will use to build the team: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/15/49ers-g-m-says-team-wont-be-major-players-in-free-agency/
  14. America doesn't manufacture enough of anything anymore.
  15. The other owners are already getting acquainted with Mary Owen. She has attended owners meetings in the past. She also sits on several committee's including: Owen, the Super Bowl Committee, International Committee and Advisory Committee on NFL Giving. She is also on the Board of Trustees for NFL Charities (http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/news/2011/01/24/bills-promote-mary-owen-to-vp.html). Bylaws or no, she is a very real possibility to me. When asked about owning the team in the future she wouldn't comment on it. What she didn't say is that she had no interest. She's been working her way up at OBD for years in various capacities. She's in charge of regionalization efforts. Maybe it's nothing more than that. I would say its in the realm of distinct possibility she is the plan or part of a plan. The NFL is about the money true. However, they are very image conscience as well. And as much as folks think everybody has it in for Buffalo there is a lot of sentiment for the Bills, particularly us fans. If a WNY group had a viable bid on the table that equaled or surpassed that of an LA investor it would look extremely bad for the league not to accept the WNY group's bid. As far as political/social pressure I am sure there are measures that can be taken. Maybe none that ultimately would work, but enough to drag the image conscience NFL through the mud. The Bills have a long history. Cleveland leaving was a black eye on the league. Cleveland wasn't promised another team, contingent on a stadium being built, for no reason. Public pressure played a large role in that. It was unjust for Modell to high-jack that team, with that tradition, out of Cleveland. The Bills would be the same thing. They have several HOF's. They appeared in four straight super bowls. Two of their HOF's could be considered the best at their positions in the history of the game (OJ and Bruce). An original AFL member. An owner who personally, with his own money, kept AFL teams afloat, who was a leader in brokering the NFL/AFL merger. I'm telling you the Bills leaving is not something the league office wants to see. Some owners? They couldn't care less I'm sure. The league office? They care. And the way class is being set-up in the country, in general, the Bills and Buffalo being a "common man" so to speak would spark a lot of support. All that being said, they could leave. But I highly doubt it. We shall see.
  16. Mary Owen, his niece is a very good possibility. She's being groomed for leadership. That much is apparent. And if Mr. Wilson left the team to a person outside his family who's to say it would be rejected by the league? IF they were a financially viable entity I don't see them not being approved. And we aren't just talking about NY State federal pols, but state and county pols as well. There are no guarantees, but I don't think it's something to be all that concerned about. Getting the Bills out of Buffalo would be a messy process, politically and socially. The Browns move was such a black eye on the league Tagliabue had to assure Cleveland they would get the Browns returned if a new stadium got built.
  17. The fact JW could run off a list of billionaires who, at least in the cases of Galisano and Gundlach, have directly expressed an interest in buying and keeping the team in WNY is very positive if you ask me. And have no doubt Chuck Schumer and NYS pols will throw a fit if the Bills look in jeopardy. NYS does not want to lose any more assets, economically or for the black eye embarrassment it would be to the state; dying economy and population will be all out in the news if the Bills did leave. And no one knows who Kelly's group is. Could be some of the previously named people or others, but I don't believe Kelly would go out of his way to say he has a group if he didn't. And once again, no announced plan does not mean Mr. Wilson has no plan. But an unknown plan would make conjecture that the Bills are up to the highest bidder an easy assumption. But it's just an assumption. Mr. Wilson is a successful business man. Do you truly believe he has no plan for his business, and not just his business, but the business his legacy is attached to? Sam Farmer, LA Times NFL Reporter, said last year in an interview he didn't think the Bills would be the team based on tradition and more importantly the large influence and potential messy influence of NYS politicians. The one thing we know is that NYS pols do messy very well. Nobody wants the Bills to leave on their watch, believe that! Don't be disturbed. You have several common sense reasons I just gave to feel positive or, at least, neutral about the situation. There are no guarantees, but they are not out the door yet and I don't believe they will be. I don't think Jones is going anywhere. He's a good receiver and excellent on special teams. He's proven to be very versatile and in a tight battle for roster spots that always makes a difference. Roosevelt probably back to the PS.
  18. You can demand it, but that doesn't mean you will get it. And the car is not an analogy that works. There are thousands of car dealers and there will be several where you can get the same car as your friend. There is only one A-Turf. So if an organization wants that turf they will pay what the company dictates.
  19. I don't think anybody's forgotten. He's a HOF. Young and Vick have similar skill sets and Young hit his stride later in his NFL career due to USFL stop and waiting behind Montana in Frisco. So a guy who coached both could see similarities in that. To say Vick could be better is a bit much, but can he realistically be in Young's realm? If he plays out his career the way he did last season and wins a title he could be seen that way. Lot of WR talent in Philly to work with so he can put up the stats. We shall see if his ability to throw effectively continues and he can avoid serious injury enough to lead the Eagles to titles.
  20. Agree with u. If the Bills were winning they would have a lot more support.
  21. Once a player is drafted they're hired. The rest is negotiating salary, which could take a while, but ultimately, will happen. He should expect big money. His field provides those of his calibre with big money. If you take issue with that it is an issue you need to take up with ownership. His fellow graduates, if they had a unique skill, could expect big money also. If they are proud graduates that are on par with other proud grads they can expect entry level salaries. Nothing wrong with that either. It's just supply and demand.
  22. They had to make logo on helmet smaller because of the widening stripe down the center of the helmet. Had to leave room for NFL required decals. I love the logos and name mark on the jersey. Now folks have no doubts about what team we root for. Would have liked to see a Blue pants option and lose the widening stripe for a normal set, but outside of that I love the new uni's. Simple and classic.
  23. You're right. The strategy is sound. And having some games up there is also sound. The spike you want to see might not show in the next few years. It will show seven, eight, ten years from now when the Bills have ingrained themselves in that area through the games, charitable outreach and other events that make TO feel like Buffalo is their NFL team too. You don't build up love overnight. You start out with some dates. Some phone calls. Some flowers. Then you bring chicken soup when she's sick. Go to her uncle's funeral. See her through some adversity and then love takes hold. But all that stuff never happens without the first dates. The Bills in TO series is the first dates. Give it time. But the money the Bills got and will get when the deal is extended is huge. Bills can grab that TO market over time. Especially when they become winners again. Patience. Hamilton through 'Cuse are not the ones who will foot the bill for all of those Luxury suites at the average rage paid around the NFL. TO has BIG money to do just that. I agree with you. But then again, this is what I was talking about last week, when I mentioned the speculation about the Bills moving. This is why I can't stand the topic being written about ad-infinitum by journalists and bloggers. These type of threads are the result. And they are started over speculation. From Sullivan to Florio, to unkown bloggers picking up another writers' speculation. It's a domino effect of nothing. One writer offers his speculation. A blogger with a large audience picks up on it and gives his two cents. Unkown bloggers with smaller audiences offer their take. And on the message board, upset fans, start the amount of threads many of us hate. But these threads don't generally start for no reason. They start based on a "report." NOBODY knows what Mr. Wilson's will says. Not the reporters or bloggers or radio announcers. But if SOME writers write articles to get a reaction (Sullivan and Florio) why are you surprised when a reaction breaks out?? Between the Bills' tradition, NY State Government and local interests I think the Bills leaving town would be much more difficult than the league or the L.A. group wants to believe. I don't think Cleveland's level of ugliness when the Browns left would touch what Buffalo fans would bring.
  24. Nix has already said what they're philosophy is. Folks might not like it, but they will build through the draft. So no reason to compare the organizations. As much as everybody loves the Sabres, Buffalo will always be a football town at heart.
  25. '77. That was the first game I remembered going to, although I'm told I went to one's earlier than that.
