Better in what way? Austin is the only one of that group who can score from anywhere on the field at any time. He is a match up nightmare. Now put him in the same formation with CJ Spiller. TWO players who can score at any time from anywhere. On Punts and Kickoffs line him up w/McKelvin. Who do they kick away from? Will lead to bad kickoffs and possession starting on the 40 and shanked directional punts... Austin would be a valuable piece. Don't need him to be "the man". Just need to add him to the puzzle. And TJ Graham can run too.

Would love this result. Spiller and Austin on the field at the same time would be ridiculous. And I believe Austin fits Nix's top 10 draft philosophy. Elite physical traits. History of production in a major conference. A difference maker. BUT, the Rams are said to love him and the Jets have been linked to him. Setting things up for a possible trade down?

RIP to a Buffalo legend.

Have you ever worn Bills gear to an away game?
purple haze replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would never go to a Bills game anywhere and not rock Bills gear. That said, I have been to see the Bills in NY, DC and San Diego. A lot of passionate, but good natured back and forth with opposing fans. Got some water and popcorn, thrown at me from an upper deck in DC, but nothing crazy. When I go see the Bills on the road I act the same way I would at the Ralph. So that stands out. I don't drink, just get loud. BUT, usually there were always many Bills fans there so it's not like I was by lonesome. -
Click on the link below. It is a pic of Current Head Coach at HU, Gary "Flea" Herrell in the early 90's. He was one of the stars WR-KR-PR on the '93-'94 team that went undefeated in the regular season and wound up losing to Marshall in the 1-AA playoffs. I saw him play many times. Had friends on the team. They were the truth. That era also had QB Jay Walker (Patriots/Vikings) and SS Tim Watson (Packers/Eagles/Chiefs) and DB Dondre Owens (Redskins) on that squad. Harrell would go on to play with the Giants for a minute. http://espn.go.com/c...rrell-new-coach This pic is from the '93 season. That year they took the stripes off the helmet and just used the logo: http://images.search...et&fr=yfp-t-900

Incorrect. I graduated from Howard U. This story was always whispered about. Old timers who had been with the University for years maintained the logo originated at HU and the Bills took it. I can tell you with clarity the logo was in operation from at least the mid-80's on through my time there in the early to mid-90's. The only difference was in the 80's the logo was entirely blue. Then they changed the stripe to red by 89 or 90. And both color schemes incorporated "BISONS" on the stripe. The Bison crest with the cross swords came in the late 90's or so. Then they returned to their "original" logo with the streaking bison. Thank God. BTW, nobody at Howard treated it as a big deal that the Bills use the logo. It was just seen as a fact of the matter where it was created.

Nick Barnett "back with Bills" tweet
purple haze replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously the organization isn't fond of releasing info to anyone. Did any of us know Kolb was in BLo last week? Or Manny Lawson. How about the coaching search? New Bills M.O. seems to be stealth. And that includes their own web reporters. -
Eifert at 8? Really? He's not a game changer. Chandler is open when he's covered too. Remember Nix said game changers go in top 10 after he took Spiller. Eifert is a good player, but a game changer? Is he stretching the field? Is he causing mismatches? He's not Gronk-like or Hernandez. And they weren't top 10 picks. If they pick an offensive player at 8 it's QB, LT or an athletic talent like Patterson. But based on Nix's philosophy of a history of production, Tavon Austin is the WR at 8. Davis is an athletic freak. Eifert is not. Big difference.
-
Tavon Austin is the only WR that fits Nix's philosophy at 8. He's elite athletically. He's an explosive, multi-dimensional playmaker who has a history of production ina major conference. He's also clean off the field. Patterson is all of those things, but doesn't have the history of production at the D1 level. He also doesn't catch the ball as well as Austin.

Fred Davis FA TE has dinner with Bills brass
purple haze replied to Scott_36's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who cares. The Bills aren't playing lawyers. They're playing football. And Davis can do that. No such thing as a charity move. The GM, Asst. GM, Head Coach and possibly others were present. That's serious interest. And Davis can play. Remember, Chris Cooley was still the man at TE for the Skins when Davis was drafted. He's not Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates in his prime, but he is athletic, can line up in multiple positions and cause mismatches. No harm in bringing him in. And it won't be for any minimum. -
Ted Johnson call Wilfork's wife "ugly"
purple haze replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everybody is "ugly" to someone. And everybody looks "good" to someone. It's all subjective. So get in where you fit in. No need for Johnson or anyone else to give an opinion like that about the next person. What's the purpose? If Bianca Wilfork isn't Ted's type of chick, that's cool. He doesn't have to do anything with her. No need to make a show of it. Vince finds her attractive for whatever his reasons are. And for Johnson to speak that way about former teammates wife? He's a jack ass, simple and plain. I guarantee you he wouldn't have said it to Vince or Bianca's face. Which makes it worse. -
Shouldn't have beat him senseless, but I'm sure the story is not as innocuous at it is made to sound. A lot of these kids are very disrespectful in a variety of ways. And the current culture supports them in this. Spare the rod spoil the child. As a young teen my father jumped on me once. He didn't knock me senseless, but he treated me like the man I thought I was. His point was made and he never had to do it again.

Has anyone seen this team worse off than right now?

You forgot Billy Joe Hobert of the "I didn't know the playbook" Hoberts. SMDH... -

If you're going to start a rookie QB in 2013 . . .
purple haze replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McCarron isn't a top pick in the draft. He's another McElroy from where I sit. A mid-late round guy. He has no special physical characteristic. He's not big, exceptionally mobile or have a big arm. There's no "it" to him. Could change this season, but right now, he's a good college QB who plays for a historically good program. That's why he'll get any mention of being a top QB. Bridgewater, yeah. Manziel? He has "it." Russell Wilson might be the best thing to happen for Manziel. Top 10. I don't know. He's awfully slight... -

Man, stop speaking with logic. It won't be a language understood by a third of the board. LoL -
How do you know they got tons better? Did they play some games we're not aware of?

DeadSpin - Convo Between Nix and Tampa GM
purple haze replied to Jauronimo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's so nice to read all of the clairvoyant's on the TBD who just knew Fitz wouldn't turn out to be decent. Even though, at the time, Fitz was playing well. It's nice to read all of the armchair GM's who speak of a crippling, retarded, etc. contract for Fitz. Too bad it's BACK END middle tier, starting QB money. You all are so intelligent and know every damn thing why don't you circulate your resume for any NFL job, be it scout, GM, capologist or whatever. You all are so good at the gig you're wasting your time on a message board. The NFL deserves your ample abilities. You all have no idea how GM's in the NFL communicate. It's funny that Nix didn't say anything that EVERYBODY doesn't already know. And turned down the idea of Jamon Meredith (we are set at OT if he's the option). Nix ain't perfect, but he's done a lot of good things too. The worst thing about the Bills past 13, ain't even turning out to be the Bills past 13 years. It's the whining azz cry babies on the message board every other second. If they make a move: complain. If they don't make a move: complain. Whinin'BillsDrive.com. Please... On a good note, Fitz is out just like he should be. Case closed. -
What qualities do you want in our next QB
purple haze replied to Chris in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Accuracy and Arm strength. Confidence is earned through work and results. Athleticism would be great because it would add to play calling possibilities, but a QB can be a winner without this trait. Mental capacity can be taught. Arm strength can't be taught. Accuracy can get better potentially, but I don't believe, to a big enough level. For examples of these two issues see: J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick. J.P. and Fitz are inaccurate. Edwards has a middling arm as does Fitz. The lack of results produced by their arms created voids in confidence. And these two issues also handicapped the Bills play calling and caused talented WR's to not be as productive as they would have been with better QB play. -
Are we targeting any big free agents?
purple haze replied to BillsFanFromCincy2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We will see how it works out. One year is no sample. But Stevie did well, again, especially considering the QB throwing him (or not throwing it well) the ball. Mario was better post surgery. Anderson was hurt most of the year, so the jury is out. It's not about big names. It's about the right names and addressing the right issues. LB, WR, OG, CB are strong possibilties. For instance, Keenan Lewis from Pittsburgh isn't a "big" name, but would be a great signing. Brandon Moore, Brandon Gibson also would be good. The only big names I could see the Bills grabbing would be Ellerbe or Kruger. And I'd prefer Ellerbe to Kruger. -
Manuel might still be there in the 2nd. I'm not surprised he wound up on Mayock's list though. He has all the physical tools. He hasn't had the consistency though.
-
You have to let fools have the right to be fools. The Bills are better for Stevie being on the team. And Buffalo should be glad to have him because he's a one man ad for B-Lo.
-
If he's the best player on the board they should take him. Line is good. Nothing wrong with making it potentially dominant. Especially with CJ Spiller in the backfield and a possible rookie QB under center.
