Where do you think they would play during a retro-fit? That might, ultimately, be a viable option, but I think a temproray location would be a serious issue. There is no stadium locally (southern ontario, wny, cny) that is close to NFL caliber.

A new stadium is probably going to be built. When it is are you not going to show up to any games? I will also say, no one knows how the new stadium would be paid for. Do we know the new owner/ownership group won't put up the money or a majority of it? A hundred thousand seat stadium? Nah, Buffalo couldn't support that. A 65,000 seat stadium? Why not? You don't think there are people who could afford the potential PSL's? I do. IF the atmosphere at the new stadium is different than at Rich/Ralph. I think many fans stay away because of the drunkards and the fights. Easier to watch the game at home for someone who feels that way. As a fan of the team, I like Rich/Ralph. Great sight-lines. I like the atmosphere for the most part too. I don't think they need a new stadium per se. But I'm not opposed to one being built either. The modern NFL is the modern NFL and, although the bottom line facet of that is, at times, disgusting, Buffalo has to step up and be a part of the modern NFL. If Buffalo wants to be a part of the NFL going forward. It is what it is. I also get tired of always hearing what Buffalo/WNY can't do. What can Buffalo/WNY do? At what point does the future become embraced and a vision set and built upon? And your couple attorneys don't mean much. You could find a couple more who would tell you the lease is what it's been said to be. Attorneys are like salesmen. They believe they can always make a case one way or the other that might be successful. Breaking that lease is unlikely. I think it's a moot issue at this point. Now if a new stadium is not built or a retrofit not done that could be a tipping point at a certain point in the lease. If Pegula or Golisano win the bid, that point is also moot. I would bet Pegula is going to win the bid; he's everything the league is said to want in terms of cash flow. He's a known entity to the trust. He's a known entity, reportedly, by league owners too. I don't believe we have anything to worry about at this stage of the game.

Can we trust Roger Goodell?
purple haze replied to first_and_ten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not necessarily. We don't know what he and Bon Jovi were discussing. But the truth is Goodell works for the owners and does their bidding. They are the only one's, ultimately, that he needs to please. I would say though, judging from owners' recent comments, such as Mara and Kraft, Goodell knows the pulse of the room; when he says he wants the Bills to stay in WNY, I don't believe it is just him going out on a limb. He is relaying a sentiment that he probably personally believes, but also, and more importantly, mirrors what his bosses also want. You have other owners from Kraft to Mara saying they want the Bills to remain in WNY. And Kraft is also a friend of Bon Jovi's. Are the statements of those owners, who want the Bills to remain, not a good sign? Honestly, it seems to me that the tea leaves have said, a long time ago, that the Bills aren't going anywhere. I think fear is a place some like to live in. In spite of other possibilities. The name being talked about at the owners' meetings after Mr. Wilson passed away was Terry Pegula. A name owners were said to be mentioning. He fits the financial criteria that the NFL is reported to desire in a potential owner. Bon Jovi, on his own, does not. I would be more concerned if Bon Jovi, along with the real money behind the MLSE group, were having a private meeting with Russ Brandon and/or the trust members. -
Jacobs and the future stadium

I get it now. The NFL is getting on my nerves with all of their BS "desires". -
Jacobs and the future stadium
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get it. Minnesota's new stadium is being paid for by tax payers. There are some owners who own their own stadiums, but I do not believe it is most or many owners. -
Jacobs and the future stadium

I don't think what Kaplan suggests will be an issue will be an issue. How bad does it look for the league to oppose a privately financed stadium from a WNY native? I don't think they'll want to go there... -
That's exactly what happened. Abe Pollin spent his own money for the most part. Not long after downtown DC finally recovered from the '68 riots. Looks like a different place now than what it was even 15 years ago. People everywhere, movie theaters, restaurants and shops. This, and what Kelly spoke of regarding Phoenix, is why I've been advocating a downtown stadium. God bless Bills fans in Southern Ontario and Niagara Falls and points east, but the city of Buffalo should benefit from the Buffalo Bills. Period. And if a stadium goes downtown, with other development attached to it, downtown Buffalo could be what it was when I was hanging onto my mothers leg walking down Main Street. It's been hard to see the ghost town downtown had become for all these years. I would have never believed it would be like that. I'm glad people in a position of power w/money or political capital (that isn't corrupt) is finally seeing how valuable it is to have viable downtown again. Not necessarily. Depends on how they construct the place.

Interesting news. It seems like the timing favors him being involved in the bidding as well as the silence we've heard from the Pegula camp. We've heard from many, but not him. And I recall during the spring NFL meetings there were reports owners had mentioned Pegula. I think all in all this is a telling development. He is already reported by Forbes to be worth 3.3 billion.

Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that will work. MLS is going toward stadiums that are 25-30,000 seats. The United are getting a new, soccer size stadium. I think after them the only teams playing in NFL football stadiums would be New England and the new NYC team in Yankee Stadium. Football stadiums are a terrible look for MLS or any soccer outside of national matches. I don't think Buffalo needs to account for this at all in a new stadium. A potential MLS team would be more apt to be at UB stadium and the Bulls move into the new Bills stadium. MLS would get an MLS sized stadium, campus enthusiasm and the Bulls get to build a bigger platform for their program. I think folks will have to get their head around and accept that if a new stadium is built it will mainly be for that 10-12 games a year the Bills play between pre-season, regular and post-season and probably UB games. What is being developed near to the stadium is what residents should focus on; infrastructure changes: rail and subway, roadways, entertainment offerings like theaters, restaurants, shopping, museums. -

Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He could have bought that land with the future intention of urban development that has nothing to do with a stadium. Niagra Falls, NY should be a destination like the Canadian side is. Since no gaming or other development has happened he probably has stadium on his mind now. And if there is a new stadium I believe it should be put in downtown B-Lo regardless of Milstein's available land. -
Really? So you aren't a football fan? You're a Bills fan only. Interesting. That's hard core.

I get your sentiment, but most of your points are irrelevant. The Bengals have won nothing in their history. New stadium. The Browns have won nothing since the 60's. New stadium. The Lions? I could go on across the major sports leagues. And Cleveland and Detroit aren't wealthy areas either. Has nothing to do with statistics on city financial health or wins and losses. It won't just be local taxes helping pay for the stadium. It will be state taxes as well. New stadium has to do with revenue streams going forward. The one point you highlighted that could mean something is the 130 million already being spent on renovations. Cuomo, et all will need to answer for that if a new stadium is the way forward. End of the day, keeping the Bills is going to cost some money. Buffalo and NYS has to step up or step off. A new stadium might not cost a billion, depends on where they put it, roof or no roof. But money spent on construction, surrounding development and infrastructure improvement would add a tremendous amount of jobs to the region. Take the bitter with the sweet.

WEDG Report: Rogers meets with Cuomo & Bills

We would expect a judge to be impartial, but since they're just people and political interest does play a part in their job security, it could go either way. -
WEDG Report: Rogers meets with Cuomo & Bills

Sue under what grounds? He has no case. The trust can sell to whomever they want. Mary Wilson is the controlling owner of the Buffalo Bills. Mary Wilson and Mary Owen are decision makers on the trust, along with Littman and another person. It is strange to me that people believe Mr. Wilson would name these people to administer the trust and put them in a position they would be in by selling the team to an ownership group who will move the team. And it seems to me an entity attempting to sue this particular trust based on who they choose to sell the team to is launching frivolous suit that is wasting the courts time and its own resources. -
Should the Bills Cut Dareus? - Jerry Sullivan Article

Marcell hasn't been convicted of one felony yet. Charged and convicted are two different things, sir. So that one more felony could be the first felony... if he's convicted. -
Should the Bills Cut Dareus? - Jerry Sullivan Article
purple haze replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A pro bowler by what default? He's played very well. He's not Warren Sapp yet, but that goes to show his potential. He's already a very good player, better than most and he still has room to be better. That's why it would be dumb to cut him. If they did he'd be on another team a day later. And when he did well with that team it's guaranteed the wrestling heel known as Jerry Sullivan would write a column bashing the Bills for giving him away. He's not committed any violent crimes: no rapes, battery of women, murder, etc. Is drag racing stupid? Yes. Should he be doing it? No. But newsflash: he's probably not the only one driving fast... The marijuana stuff is irrelevant to me, but that's a discussion for another day. Talk to me when they find a crack pipe in his car or some meth. The great Bruce Smith served a four game suspension back in the day for cocaine use. Should they have cut him too? No reason to run Dareus out of town. That's senseless. I'm sorry these athletes, like anybody else, aren't perfect and do stupid things and they disappoint Mr. Sullivan and some others in the city of Buffalo. Maybe one day they might have to consider letting him go; today is not that day.
