Double-Digit Candidates & Interviews -Smart Move
purple haze replied to HailMary's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These are interviews. Have you ever showed up to an interview and didn't have any knowledge of the company you were interviewing with? All of these interviewees would have an idea of the personnel on hand, particularly as it related to their area of expertise, and how they might deploy that talent, amongst other things. These coaches have access to college/pro scouting reports, film, and friends with intimate knowledge of players/execs, etc. There should be no excuse for an interviewee, who wants one of only 32 gigs in the world, not to be able to talk in at least a semi-detailed way about the personnel of the team they interview with and how that personnel fits into their coaching philosophies. It's not wasted time at all. I think it's the exact opposite if you are the Pegula's who are brand new to the game. First hand knowledge, from experienced professionals, about how they view the talent on their team, and thoughts about organizational dynamics is invaluable for them going forward. -
Carucci's update on coaching search
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's the world we live in. If it doesn't happen right away it must be no good. Whaley is doing exactly what he should be doing. Seeing how a new coach would develop E.J. He should bring in other QB's as well, as he himself stated he would, but giving up on the guy after 14 games would be counterproductive. -
Welcome in.

Package Deal? (Mike & Kyle Shanahan)
purple haze replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LoL. That DC stint was terrible. But to say the Shany's ran the Skins into the groudn would mean ignoring the current Jay Gruden era. Or the ole ball coach era. Or the Jim Zorn era. Snyder is running that team into the ground. -
A serious question, why the faith in Whaley?

Scathing article in NY Daily News on Marrone
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was only a matter of time before things started leaking out opposing the view some in the media were putting forward the past few days. Mheta is a Syracuse grad too. Some in the NY media (unlike National media) are starting to question hiring Marrone. I also think that the air was thick the past few days hyping Marrone up. It's only natural journalists will look to dig into those claims. Its what they do. And they aren't blind. Marrone is underwhelming in general. Why were the national guys acting like he was a HOF'er already?? -
EJ's arm is very strong. I wouldn't say Cam's is stronger. He is just, as you say, slightly more accurate. And he uses his legs to make an impact. Something the dynamic duo coached out of EJ. Cam is definitely faster and more sudden though. As was said, quick twitch. EJ reminds me more of Big Ben. I think that's the best comparison.

Polian's Advice to the Pegulas
purple haze replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's BOGUS. What he's saying is Marrone wanted more control. Which wasn't in his job description. Why is that the Defense and ST's got better, but his offense got even worse? I'll say it again, we can do better at the HC position. -
Head Coach candidate: Mike Shanahan
purple haze replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Okay, now you've jumped the shark. -
My final thoughts on Saint Dougie
purple haze replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Polian didn't want to do the work necessary once Marrone bounced. AND he was rumored to be bringing in AJ Smith as GM. THAT would be a disaster. Bills are in great shape. They can find a better coach than Marrone and a better OC than Hackett. And they still have talent on D and talent at the skill positions. Relax. It's gonna be okay. -
Head Coach candidate: Hue Jackson
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nah, if Jackson gets interviewed he is a legit candidate. Rooney Rule is usually used for guys who are up and coming who need to get to know execs, and gain expereince going through the actual interview process, which has been said to be highly involved. This applies to some of the white interviewees we see as well, I believe, although in that case no one questions why they get interviewed. Sometimes a guy like Tomlin wows and actually get the gig. Hue Jackson is beyond that point. He's already been a successful assistant, coordinator, and a fairly successful HC. Rooney Rule gets a bad rap. I don't think it's ever a bad thing to be able to get in front of people and display one's knowledge and capabilities. Not getting a gig now doesn't mean it won't happen later. But people have to get to know these coaches and what they bring to the table. Musicians have to practice. Athletes have to practice. Accountants have to practice their craft. Coaches are no different. Interviewing for an NFL coaching gig is an involved process. Getting practice doing it is positive. -
Bills may be in the worst bind ever
purple haze replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EXACTLY. Some folks just don't do change well. This is a golden opporunity for the Bills to get out from under a middling coach, who has done some good things, but far more baffling things. -
Has Marrone's credibility as a Head Coach taken a hit?
purple haze replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone did what he had the right to do. However, he opted out after the Pegula's chose to not give him what he wanted. It's not like he opted out on day 1. He's an average coach who has done some good things, but more baffling things during his Buffalo tenure. We can do better. -
We need a HC, that can build a Super Staff
purple haze replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Overblown. A team pays, great assistants will come. New ownership has the pockets, and has displayed no hesitation reaching into them. This is not the old Buffalo operation. Besides, these coaches spend a majority of their time inside the facility. When they go outside they are on the practice field at the facility. They are on their way to an airport to fly out to a game. They don't have a lot of free time anyway. $ talks. -
Brandon is running the business side where he belongs and where he has done GREAT work. Brandon doesn't need to go anywhere. I'm baffled that people still want to run him out of town. Brandon is a major reason the Bills are still in Buffalo for us to enjoy. How is it that some of those same players played well under Gailey? Urbik was good then. Glenn and Wood regressed under Marrone. Spiller regressed under Marrone. He mismanaged his players. Remember training camp when Rob Woods was third team? Or Jerry Hughes was invited to leave? He didn't know Hughes wasn't in the game in Denver? Mike Williams?? Look, Marrone did some good things, but the D is why the Bills were 9-7. He did well hiring D-Coordinators. But lets not act like Vince Lombardi just walked out the door.

Head Coach Candidate: Frank Reich
purple haze replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He didn't say they weren't important. He signed one in FA, drafted another one and signed other's as well. The line isn't good, but it's not for lack of bringing in players to attempt to make a line. Also Glenn and Wood regressed. Urbik and Pears were what they are, although they have played better. Just like Spiller regressed. And Goodwin. And Mike Williams couldn't get on the field because..? Just like EJ as a rookie ran around, etc., then last year played scared. Sounds like a healthy dose of coaching mis-management to me. Which is why I'm glad Marrone lost his power struggle. -
No we weren't actually. Whaley was talked about as a young, up-and-coming GM candidate. That's why the Bills made him Assistant GM. Other teams wanted him. And if the Bills let him go other teams will still want him. This world where GM's hit on every pick does not exist. He's done more good than bad, and even his "bad" is still not totally known, because of the timing involved. I know this is a microwave society, but it's laughable that people already know that the Watkins trade didn't work out. EJ? We shall see. 14 games and bad coaching along the way. That book is still being written too. Not that they shouldn't bring in other QB's still.

Marrone could be headed to Jets
purple haze replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We can only hope this is true! Oh, please, please, please, please... -
New game and new day doesn't mean the man doesn't know what makes a good football player. It doesn't mean he doesn't know what the league is now. He hasn't been out on a farm somewhere. He's been analyzing the NFL for ESPN since he retired. It's his business to know the league and its operations. He'll be fine. He's built everywhere he's gone. He's the Harbaugh of GM's. Buffalo, Carolina and Indianapolis all got much better under his watch; and fairly quickly at that.

Marrone was upset at the Buffalo Media
purple haze replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His panties are too tight. So long chump. -
He could have gotten a very good WR, but none who were evaluated to be the package that Watkins presented. Beckham, at the time of the draft, I said was a Watkins type, and would have been a good pick. However, Watkins, I still believe, will go down as the more difference-making WR. People are salty now, but three years from now I think a majority of this board will be glad Watkins is a Bill and won’t be thinking about any pick they gave up to get him.

Article: Bills 2015 offseason wish list
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Re-sign: Hughes, Searcy, Easley, Hogan. (Would love Spikes and Spiller back, but think they can do better scheme-wise elsewhere.) Sign Charles Clay (Very good receiving option and hurts a division rival) and Mike Iupati. Find a QB. And make sure Henderson, Richardson and Kouandijo don’t miss a day in the weight room this off season. -
Amen. There is a whole bunch of 20/20 hindsight going on in ITT. I continue to be certain most on this board will be overjoyed Watkins is a Bill, as opposed to any other of the WR’s they might have drafted, by the time is his rookie deal is up.

Ahem… He hired the equivalent of George Edwards on Offense. You give him credit for the DC hires, I do as well. I blame him for Hackett. Marrone has done good things. But he is stubborn. Ultimately, it’s probably best for him and Whaley to stay for continuity purposes. IF it comes down to a choice though, I would choose Whaley. At least Whaley has some cojones. Marrone will punt on 4th & 1 at the opponents 38 yard line, and do it time and time again. Whaley is aggressive. I can accept a mistake of conviction, provided there is evidence of successes too. Whaley has successfully addressed the Bills depth issues. He has added serious talent at various positions. Marrone is not what he said he would be when he was hired. He is not aggressive. He is not progressive. He reminds me of many veteran, re-tread coaches the way he operates on game day. Would he be different with a better QB option? Maybe, but then I doubt it. People tend to be what they are. Even if Brady were the QB, he’d probably be more apt to play his percentages and punt. He mismanages the clock at the end of halfs/games. If he stays I hope he improves and gets closer to what he said he would be when first hired.
