Eagles trade CB Brandon Boykin to Steelers
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why must he? He might or might not. No reason to concede the point though. He's innovative w/his "system," but his people skills might be his undoing. He might be a briliant coaching mind who, at the same time, is a control freak who cannot adapt, or refuses to adapt, to a new environment. He is not in college anymore. He will most likely receive total buy in from a college kid. If someone does not buy in, he will be recruiting 25 or more the following year. The NFL is a different arena altogether. Resources, in terms of talent, are not as prevalent. Because someone will buy in does not make them a better option. Murray is a good player, who has a longer injury history in a shorter number of active years. McCoy has proven more durable and more productive throughout his career. Murray is the same age and counts on a more physical style for success (for those analytics syncophants, his wheels should fall of soon too, right, or no?) Ryan Matthews injury history speaks for itself. Jordan Matthews is a good WR, but not one as explosive as Jackson or Maclin. Nelson Agholor has tremendous potential, but is not proven. Boykin is also a good player and there is no proven player at his position behind him. Kelly is giving up a lot of talent in a league where top talent is not a given to be acquired, or replaced. It will be interesting to see how things work out. I don't have a dog in the fight, but his ways seem counter-productive at the NFL level. He might be the poster child for "book" smart, but lacking in the common sense needed to use it successfully. -

Chip Kelly is a different sort. McCoy complained about his methods of training, including a full practice the day before a game. Seems possible his legs were fatigued going into the game. We shall see. But the 4.2 is well within the range he's always averaged. There will be negative runs. That's part of his style. Barry Sanders was similar. However, like Sanders, I would say the positive runs outweigh the negative. Ryan isn't running full practices the day before a game, or other "unconvential" training methods. We will see how this impacts Shady's results. But, again, he is a proven commodity. His so called "off" year was still better than most. -

I stand corrected. However, your basic premise is hyperbole. Outside of Murray, McCoy had the highest number of carries in the league. Many RB's with better ypc had nowhere near the same number of carries. You add in the fact that Philly had many offensive line injuries, and uneven QB play, 4.2 isn't bad. In fact, it is in line with his historical averages. His ypc has always been consistently between 4 and 5. The narrative that he's "declining" seems to be based, in general, on a supposition that he is turning 27, and therefore must decline because that is what analytics say RB's do, or that he has been overused, and therefore will decline. Anything is possible, but there is no real evidence that McCoy is declining at this point. He has been durable in his career. Six seasons: 16 games three times. 15 games two times. The one season in 2012 he missed 4 games, and he was on pace for 300 carries and over 1000 yards that season too. Compare these stats to Marshawn Lynch who has similar durability, and is 4.3 for his career w/much more punishment. No one says he is declining. Pundits say he is the heartbeat of the Seahwaks and it is true. Analytics are a tool, but not one size fits all. (not saying you, specifically, are saying this). McCoy is not a player that has taken massive punishment in his time in the league. Reports out of camp also indicate he is as he always has been: quick, fast and shifty. Health permitting, If the offensive line is decent, McCoy will get his carries and his yards. This "declining" narrative is just folks worrying because they want something to worry about. Come on man, his "declining" numbers are still well above league average ypc, and over 1300 yards was third in the league. This line of thinking is the same as people who said Michael Jackson's post Thriller albums were failures because they didn't sell 65 million worldwide copies, when most artists never get close to selling even the "lowest" number of sales on any of his subsequent albums. You would be the fan who said O.J. was declining because he didn't follow up 2003 with another 2000, but instead had 1200, and 1800 yards. What is "hungry" supposed to look like? A smile on his face means he's not hungry? Interacting w/fans? Throwing a party? Okay... Seems to me he showed up in shape and ready to work. That denotes dedication to me, but maybe it's just me... McCoy will be just fine if the line is halfway decent. And no running back will be good without a line opening up some holes for them. No RB is different in that respect. -
The shout song could use an update. Same song, but use a different lead singer, back up singers and instrumentation. I think it should be played after TD's and after a win, as opposed to any score.

What is this common sense you speak? Do they sell at Rosetta Stone? Some folks will always choose to think the worst. Such is their right. I think Brandon's actions have definitely played a part in the Bills continuing in WNY, along with Mr. Wilson, and various politicos, from Polancarz to Schumer to Cuomo. The Bills had support at the grassroots, in high and in higher places. We also have an acknowledged, passionate and supportive fan base that spans a wide area and two countries (close enough to attend games in WNY, In know we have fans in other countries as well). Brandon played a part in cultivating that too. He also helped the team make money by selling games to TO (which I hated), but added a large swath of income to the organization. I am glad the Pegula's are the owners. However, I don't believe the Bills would have been moved in any case, based on the lease and the support I previously spoke of. The Bills are taken personally by a multitude of people. It's beyond a just football organization and the league knew it.

The much ado about nothing is not related to him using the Bills logo on his invite. It's understandable the organization would not want him to associate the organization with his personal business. However, the party being thrown, in and of itself, is nothing. It's not a crime, but the way it's being "covered" one would think it is. In grad school, whenever me and my roommates threw a party we specifically invited more women than guys. And every other guy I knew who threw a party would do the same. Women were the party. The more the better. This is why they get into clubs for free.

Much ado about nothing. Technology is great, but one of the things that is highly irritating is everything being blown up by bloggers and funneled into the main stream. It's a party. For all the dudes on here upset about it, how many parties have you thrown or been to? Night club promoters do this exact same thing all over the world. Beautiful women are always sought out. How many parties have you left because there were too many dudes there compared to women? If you could ensure a large female turnout and the most beautiful women would show up, you would throw that party. Remember he's 26 not 46, or 66. He's also not married. What are we really talking about here? This is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. And this type of thing has always gone on in various forms. Read about Babe Ruth. Read Jim Brown's book. Read the book on the 70s Cowboys or the 80s Lakers. How many Jack Nicholson fans out there? Same stuff. It just wasn't reported on by the journalists of the day because it had nothing to do with their actual professions. Now everything is "news" even if it isn't.

RIP. Glad he went up on the wall last season while he was still here. Great broadcaster.

I don't watch the Bills for moral direction. Ideally, they wouldn't have brushes with the law, but I have the same thoughts about society in general. In this age of the internet things take on exaggerated proportions because everyone has a "voice" that can be easily heard. I'd bet few, outside of Bills fans, and most of us too, care that much about Aaron Kromer. If the organization decides he should be let go, fine. If they determine, for whatever reason, that he should stay, then fine. Kromer's actions reflect on Kromer, not me as a Bills fan.

Both were in the wrong. She threw a punch. Because a female threw the punch doesn't exempt her from consequences. At the same time, one would hope he could walk away, get a bouncer to handle her, etc. in either instance it would take maturity. He's what? 18? And drinking. Alcohol and its effects play a large part in this as well. The manager of the bar needs to explain why underaged people are in the bar in the first place. Yes, he's wrong. I have no problem w/ him getting consequences. However, we don't need to present her as blameless. She is also wrong for swinging on him. Everybody should keep their hands down. A punch, slap, kick will usually lead to one in return. Not every guy has the maturity, foresight or worse, the desire to walk away. A woman should never think she can be physical in anger w/a guy because he's not supposed to react. The racial potential? Who knows what's real at this point, but I can tell those who ask "because she called him a name it justifies..?" My friend, It's beyond being called a name. From multiple personal experiences, when someone calls you a !@#$ the anger goes from 1 to 1 million immediately. It's like someone coughed up every bit of sickness in their lungs and spit in your face. And one's reaction to it isn't always the most well considered in the moment.

Who are your top 10 Bills of all time?
purple haze replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thurman was league MVP in '91. Offensive player of the year in '92. A player who isn't excellent at any one thing does not win those types of awards. I would contend he was an excellent runner, one of the best in his generation along with Sanders and Smith. He was the best pass catching RB in the league in his generation. He was Marshall Faulk before Marshall Faulk. He ran pass routes that WR's ran, not just catch swing passes out of the backfield. And pass protection? He routinely kept LB's and DE's off of Kelly and Reich. My 10, not in any order, and only inclusive of players I actually saw play (but respect to the champions of the 60's): The Juice Bruce Andre Reed Darryl Talley Jim Kelly Charles Romes Jerry Butler Thurman Thomas Joe D. A player doesn't spend 9 years in the league because they are terrible. Everybody can't be elite. Or a star. He's an average NFL grinder. He stuck around, more than likely, for the reasons some on here are stating: he works hard, he can mentor young players on the field, in the classroom, and he will compete. He's been out of a ball for a couple years, yet, when he had an opportunity he showed up in shape and ready. There's a lot to be said for that. Same way Incognito was ready for his workout in the winter. Bills are young along the o-line. Vets, at least for camp, are always helpful. And every team has similar players during camp. It's not tough for him to teach how to be prepared. He's also been in the league 9 years. He's probably familiar with most types of offenseive concepts and techniques. Many coaches use vets to help them with exactly that type of teaching. He's a worst case scenario that Rex and co. are comfortable with. If it wasn't him it would be another OT. Might as well be someone whose work ethic he knows. It's not a big deal.

McCoy and Harvin's production this year
purple haze replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alonso will have a hell of a lot of playing to do to have a better career than Shady. He’s not even on the same planet at this point. And #25 is still only 27yo, without the history of injuries. -
Goodwin attempting to make 2016 Olympics
purple haze replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he's been training, it's possible. Because he hasn't competed in meets doesn't mean he hasn't trained for the sport. Remember after Darby got drafted, they brought him on a tour of the facilities and he met Goodwin? He mentioned how Goodwin was doing track training. -

McCoy can come off as a jerk at times, but so can a bus driver, teacher or office worker; I'm sure there's someone, somewhere who might say you were a jerk to them at some point. We all have been jerks, or been perceived as such, and said ill-advised things to someone, or done regrettable things. No different than McCoy, or some other public figure. He's also still on the young side; a guy who has been praised since childhood for his abilities. That plays a part in his maturity. He's not getting himself arrested and locked up for violent acts, or other criminal acts, so as far as I'm concerned he's fine at the end of the day. And as far as the "race card" how do you know he doesn't have legit reasons for saying what he said? None of us have interacted with Chip Kelly and LeSean McCoy, when they've been together, to know anything definitive, one way or the other. It could very well be that McCoy is perceiving Kelly's actions in the wrong way. On the surface, to me, it sounds like Kelly is a control-freak, who wants totalitarian authority, and anyone who does not do what he wants, without question, he gets rid of. That doesn't, in itself, make him a racist by any means. At the same time, McCoy might have had personal interactions with Kelly, that not even other black players are privy to, that led him to feel the way he does. (and Riley Cooper's continued presence, could play a part in McCoy's perception as well.) From my personal experience, I've found racsim to be more complicated than many want to acknowledge; often it's overt; more often it's insidious, and sometimes the person acting in a racist way doesn't even understand why they did what they did, or said what they said (see Cooper, Riley). Significantly? I wouldn't call going from 1600 yds to 1300 yds significant. His ypc was still above league average as well. He went from leading the league in rushing to third in the league. That's with Kelly taking him out of games, and injuries along the Eagles offensive line. I also believe his statistics, if that's what's important to you, improved as the season went along, and again, that's with him being removed from games in favor of Sproles. I'll take Shady's "down" year from any RB, in any year and be happy.

The only people who would have a negative perception of it are older people who don't know any better. As you know, hookah lounges are everywhere. I don't think what people perceive matters. The guy is in his house, doing something that is very legal, and fairly popular. No different than if he had a drink in his hand sitting on his couch. In fact, alcohol, to me, is worse than most other drugs. Maybe he smokes hookah to keep from smoking weed (which I don't think is a big deal either, but that's a different discussion), which would make it fairly intelligent.
-
McCoy is arguably the best RB in the league. Fred will show up, as always, but McCoy is the elite back. Period.
-
No need for that. Just don't click on his write-ups. If you really want to get rid of him, that would be the way. But hey, he's entitled to his opinion, and doesn't work for the Bills. I'm no fan of his either, I think he's entirely too negative, so I don't read his stuff for the most part. Same way I tuned out Sullivan. He would be irresistible. Herm Edwards would be another good recruiter.

Speed Kills Except for the Bills that We Draft
purple haze replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gilmore - 1 yr on his deal. McKelvin - Turning 30 before the season. Graham - Turning 30 before the season. Robey - Better in the slot than outisde. Brooks - Hasn't defined his skill set. Cockrell - the jury is out. And some practice squad players we have no idea what they can provide if anything. Drafting a CB was a necessity. Darby is a very good one. Not a finished product, but he will be well coached. -
Polian critical of Bills not drafting a QB
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see all of Kessler's games. He is very underwhelming, in spite of them winning some games. He's a guy. "It" is not something he will be accused of having. Maybe this years changes things. -
