I love seeing games in Orchard Park, but I would love going downtown too. The days of building up suburbs at the expense of the cities are over for the foreseeable future. Cities are realizing downtown areas are important for the development and overall reputation of a city. A downtown stadium won't just be a downtown stadium; it will, more than likely, come with infrastructure changes that will help the area outside of Sunday's, i.e. revamped rail, public transportation and road development, as well as entertainment/retail spaces. And if they retrofitted the Ralph where do the play in the meantime? Toronto? London? Infrastructure development would be a part of a stadium going downtown. I doubt it would just be a stadium. There would be development of public transportation, railway, roads, etc. Which would help the city in general, outside of just the stadium. I could see where the Pegula's pay for the stadium privately and the state/county and citizens of Erie County pay for the infrastructure upgrades as that will benefit everyone: residents and visitors alike year around.

Indoor facilities are more expensive and as you said, it's only 8 games per year. And there is not much that can be done at the stadium that isn't already done at first Niagara. If they want to add money making features they can put museums/restaurants in the stadium which wouldn't require the expense of a roof.

Wouldn't the biz community be more interested in suites/boxes? Personally, a stadium like Seattle's is what I'd like to see. Cover the seating areas, but still be outside. Win win for everyone. I think the downtown location will decrease the drunken antics and attract more biz/family types regardless of roof/no roof.

Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, sir. It just seems to me that there is always a source about Whaley's demise that is out of the ordinary. Could be professional jealousy on the part of someone, but this was going on during Marrone's tenure as well. Nobody can hate like an angry woman. Anyway, just conjecture on my part trying to make sense of something that is odd. Probably shouldn't posit such theories. Age is no factor. Connections are. Plenty of "young" reporters get things wrong too or trade in conjecture. LaCanfora is young. -

Someone in that building has it in for Whaley. I wonder if a woman is involved who is not Mrs. Whaley? -
Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills

Pegula's might pay people to go away who are already under contract, but to give Whaley an extension in the face of an ultimatum would be throwing money away, if playoffs did not come next season. Doesn't make sense. -

Chargers file for LA relocation

It would be good to see them out this way, but I would still get back to Buff for a game too. -

Jay Skurski, Vic Carucci and Tyler Dunne. Dunne writes some excellent feature articles on the Bills. -

That's the irony. The Raiders fandom is DEEP out here, but higher ups don't seem to want them back because of the "element" they attract. -

I doubt they let 3 go. Would over saturate the market. Two teams will be hard enough if one of them is the Chargers. Rams and Raiders? Will work fine so long as they win. Raiders will work regardless if they win or not. The Coliseum is a dump. But so is the Rose Bowl. The difference is the surroundings, but both locations are way outdated. SC is supposed to be renovating the Coliseum at some point though. If it's the Rams though, the Bills will be in town in '16. Cali taxpayers will not pay for any stadiums. That's why the NFL won't have any choice but to let Kroenke go and try to convince him to take in one of the other teams. He's the only one without a plan that includes public money. -
No. He has been a guy that people talked about last year as someone who had head coach potential. He interviewed for OC gigs last year as well as the Jets HC gig. He has been on the radar. He's qualified. The Rooney Rule is not for coaches who are not qualified. It is for coaches who are qualified who need a chance to be interviewed or gain experience in being interviewed so they can get into the mix. Of course not. That would not fit the American thought paradigm that the coach in question is somehow unqualified and "taking" a job or an opportunity from someone who is supposedly more "deserving."

Seattle v. Pittsburgh

Why would those guys, who are well thought of enough to be in demand, want a gig that is setting up like the Browns gig? I would imagine they want to run the ship, not report to a man who, while accomplished in his area of expertise, is not accomplished in the field of talent acquisition for a football team.

HUH? Brown, who has never scouted to my knowledge, will have final say on the roster? And the GM, who is in charge of acquiring talent, will have to report to Brown, who has never scouted personnel, to make a final decision on players he acquires. Meanwhile, the coach will report directly to the owner? Is it just me or does that make no sense at all?
