Goodwin fails to make Olypmic team
purple haze replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The level of bitterness and nastiness toward Goodwin is ridiculous. Folks are taking things way too personally. 88 will make the team or he won't make the team and someone else will get a chance to make a difference. It's that simple. Happens in the NFL every year on every team. -
Bills: New Stadium or Renovation?
purple haze replied to ROONDOGG55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't this from an old report based on a person who wanted to build the stadium on the outer harbor as part of a bigger development project? I'm not buying it. It seems like a proposal to the council would make more news than just a single blog. Just a couple weeks ago the owners, et al. spoke of nothing being imminent. I can't see a project being put forth so soon after such definitive statements. Unless it's a plan presented by an entity with nothing to do with Bills ownership. Which makes it even more worthless. I would love it if it were something the Pegula's were presenting and it was true, but I don't think so. -
RIP. Prayers up for his loved ones.

Terry Pegula to be on WGR afternoon show today 6/22
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Pegula, but I don't buy his stadium conversation. I'm sure a new stadium would have been brought up at the time of the sale by the other owners. I believe there is no set timetable. I do not believe he and Mrs. Pegula have no preference for the location of a new stadium. Sounds to me they, along with Brandon, are doing a dance to make sure the new stadium goes down well with the public. -
MMQB Profile of Marquise Goodwin
purple haze replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most people, everywhere, work a job that's not their passion because it pays. So I love seeing anyone chase their dream; life circumstances beats the desire out of way too many people. Go, 88. -
At this point does Long have the physicality to play RT? He's been injured a lot. Can he move? Whaley is pretty good at picking up competition for the roster off the street, so if Long hasn't been signed yet... That was one guy I was glad the Bills let walk. He was good for the Bills but not worth the type of contract the Titans gave him.

Eagles' DT Fletcher Cox Gets a Big Deal
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Elway is going to have to pay Miller now. No way around the guaranteed money, if the guarantees in Fletcher's deal is a real 63 million.  We can't compare our jobs to professional athletes or really compare eras of sports. The money involved is directly related to the technology available, which made the league as popular as it is. Were the players of years prior worth a lot more than they got paid? From a playing standpoint most definitely. They just played in a different era. Players are making so much, they are also going to spend a lot of it keeping up their health once they retire. And if the players are making what they do, the owners are making much more. And they are a specialized group of people. People with specialized/rare skill sets in any industry get paid more than others. Such is life. -
ESPN 30 for 30 - O.J.: Made in America
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if the Juice's actions were that important, ultimately. In a vacuum, his desire to be seen for his talent and excellence were understandable. However, he was embraced and loved by white mainstream America because he was perceived as not black; meaning that he made white America comfortable in his silence about injustices that were occurring daily. So is that really love? For instance, with all of the inequality that existed at the time OJ was at USC, he was able to, with his talents, be accepted. But the people he grew up with, what of them? He can be treated grandly, but the people he grew up with could find mistreatment in various forms, or his relatives, etc. He was selfish. But that was his right to live as he wished. The truth of it is, there was only one OJ. His talent was rarified so someone else making it in the way that he did was unlikely. Also, don't miss the fact that OJ was a star athlete. If he were a "regular" person his path would have been a lot different. And I say all of that as someone who was/is a huge fan of OJ's talent. This is why the Muhammad Ali's and Jim Brown's are so highly respected and loved. Not that they were saints or perfect people by any means, but because they were stars, yet they remembered how they were treated before they were stars, and they also recognized that the rest of the community they grew up in were not afforded the same basic respect they had access to once they were "known." I wouldn't call demanding equality, to be treated with respect, to not be brutalized, militant. I would call it intelligent to fight back in a way that makes people confront the issue.   I hear you. Nothing can be all things to all people. I think most of the regard for the documentary is because it is more than just sports. I think all of the 30 for 30s could have taken similar tacks if they had chosen to. In this specific instance though, the cross-current of race, class, sports, celebrity are so deep into OJ's story they had to be included or what you would have had was a who done it or an NFL films fluff piece and we have already seen those things were OJ is concerned. -
ESPN 30 for 30 - O.J.: Made in America
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the context of OJ's story and what we would see later during the trial, it is important for people to know the history of the LAPD relationship to the black community. It is directly relevant to his acquital and the divergent reactions afterward. The present is not lived in a vacuum. Threads from the past can usually be found running through the present. I would also say, the root cause of the problems in that area and other areas like it, is not the police. They are a sprout from the root, but the root runs deeper than them. When you say the country just wasn't ready for integration, it was everyone's fault... who exactly are you referring to not being ready? Then my next question would be why weren't those people ready, as integration was seen as a akin to equality: equal access, equal treatment, etc. -

Yeah, but it would be redundant to speak of '75. The zenith is 2G's in '73. Although, arguably, 75 was a better all around year. The 2G's speaks of his athletic greatness because it was unique and herculean and something, I would imagine, most of the country would recall hearing about. That accomplishment relaunched his star and led to the bigger endorsements and film appearances which we see today all the time, but back then? From a storytelling perspective I would focus on that too. Anything else would be anticlimactic. As long as this documentary will be they still can't throw in everything. Ultimately, the director has done a masterful job of giving OJ's story context, why he was the way he was, and why what was to come later, in terms of reactions, mistrust, anger surrounding his trial ran as deeply as they did. -
Pure foolishness. McCoy doesn't owe anyone an explanation. And he's best served keeping his mouth shut and moving on. True, he has to be available to the media for a specified amount of time, but he is not obligated to answer any specific questions or fulfill the desires of a sanctimonious reporter to answer in any specific way nor apologize for an incident that is no one's business.

I get you're sentiment. The Buff News does seem to have a negative take, or in Sullivan's case, historionic takes that defy reality. So, knowing that, I pick and choose what I engage with. In the instance of team coverage the articles and opinion pieces only have the power you give them. Don't like what you've been reading? Stop reading that particular journalist's work. If I'm reading an article in from a national source, and it appears they don't watch the team half as much as I do, I stop reading. If you choose to engage it you are driving yourself crazy, they aren't doing it to you. Bills start winning, watch how all of the articles change up.

Fitz calls his shot -Update Signed w/Jets
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is better than EJ. No doubt. However, Fitz and Kevin Kolb, who was the QB brought in to start for the team, are in the same ballpark talent wise. Kolb's injuries put EJ on the field sooner than the Bills wanted him to be. Kolb was Fitz's real replacement. And at this point, who cares? It's Tyrod's team now. And Fitz still isn't worth what he supposedly is asking for. -
Fundraising and religious liberty? What about the women who were discouraged from coming forward or whose claims were given no serious investigating? If he's reading from the same Book I am he needs to do some soul searching. Briles had to go and he should not be the only one, including Ken Starr.

5-28: Carucci's TBN Piece on John Miller
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When Kuoandijo filled in for Henderson in the 'Nati game he actually did pretty well. I don't know what is going on with him in the practice setting that he can't earn the gig. I wonder if that knee problem that was discussed when he was drafted is playing a role in his issues. -
He needs to go. Can't turn a blind eye to that type of criminality.

Why did Lawson have surgery before signing a contract?
purple haze replied to Ennjay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's not much to negotiate. The slot is set already. -
For the win. It's incredible that some always complain. Why bother? 31 other teams and four other professional sports leagues to follow that might bring them some joy. Shady is one of the best in the league when healthy, as he showed last season. He was no less quick or fast or elusive after he recovered from his hamstring injury. In short, he was the same Shady we've seen during the Philly years. He missed four games and was in and out of a couple others. Still had almost a thousand yards. The Bills are forecasted to be 50 or so million under the cap; enough to pay Gilmore (If they desire) and Taylor (If he earns it). Like any other team, some players are going to walk at some point because they can't afford to keep everyone. No team can. But they will pay the ones who form the core of the team and supplement with the draft and lower level FA's. Something like Pittsburgh and Green Bay and N.E. Sound business practice. Of course the QB makes this work better.

RD 6, Pick 218: CB Kevon Seymour, USC

He wasn't a better player at SC, I can assure you that. He does have a potentially higher ceiling though. -
Browns release Brian Hartline
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods did his work last season with a torn groin though. Although, I'm not opposed to Whaley looking into Hartline. Would be a decent pick up. -

Best tailgate party ever - Bills at Rams in Los Angeles
purple haze replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in Tailgate Central
They just extended the Exposition line to Santa Monica for people staying at hotels on the west side. And there's subway service from the Valley to downtown as well; so folks don't necessarily have to drive to the game. If you can avoid it driving, avoid it. Traffic is a beast going into downtown, especially on weekends. It will be nice to hear all the Bills fans at the Coliseum. I think people who aren't Bills fans will be shocked at the size of our presence. -
Patrick Willis lands on his feet
purple haze replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure he has some skills, but the biggest thing is that article was a good amount of free publicity for the company. Never a bad thing. -
Yeah, playing with a torn groin will slow a guy way down, right?
