Jets were playing soft coverage too. They should give Gilleslie some more burn, but I don't think his results will be that much better. Shake and bake happens when there's DL in the backfield damn near as soon as you get the ball.

The best description of tt:

Why do you think that will happen. The O line isn't run blocking well at all. McCoy gets the ball and half the time he's hit before he takes three steps. I don't know what the hell is going on up front. -
The Chin is not leaving TV. He hasn't coached in years. I wouldn't count on him to turn anything around as a coach. I can say I'm actually shocked the Bills look this poor. If Rex goes they need to get someone who can use the talent on hand because a total rebuild in personnel adds more years to the drought.

This is a division game so it is most definitely a must win. And they have to play well on offense. That hot mess on Sunday spooked me. I was not expecting the laying of that egg. They better show up tomorrow night and close the deal with a W too.

Just got back from the game, in person observations
purple haze replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but at some point a team has to take what they want. Roman allowed the Ravens to dictate what he did. That's a no no. With the way NFL Refs throw the flag on DB's for looking at WR too long, it's worth taking a shot or two or three. No excuses not to send Sammy deep. Does Roman need to watch the KC game from last year to remember Sammy still makes catches down field when double covered? -
R-E-L-A-X it's one game

I appreciate the optimism. I'm not saying the season is lost or that they can't turn it around. But this game was distressing because it seemed to be a repeat of the worst traits displayed by the offense/offensive coaching staff from last season. Did they not learn anything? -
I did think they would be able to maximize their offensive weapons, and for that reason I thought the game wouldn't be all that close. I was wrong. It's almost as if Roman did not remember last year, when he didn't call plays down field for Watkins or anyone else and kept the game under 20 yards. Losing is one thing, losing how they lost is another. That was hot trash. Kicker missing important kicks. Coaches cannot get the right play/players in the game and we blow timeouts or take a delay penalty QB not challenging down field. Offensive Coordinator allowing the defense to dictate what the offense does. I heard Tyrod say they were taking what the Ravens gave. I'm sorry, this is a football game. Take what the hell you want to take. Throw it down field and let Watkins or Clay or Goodwin or Woods make a play. Do they need to watch film of the KC game from last season when Watkins was doubled and he still made catch after catch after catch? Not being successful is one thing. But they at least have to try don't they? Maybe the catch is made. Maybe a PI is called. If the D gives up only 13 points the Bills should win that game. Period.

Exactly. I read in this book that the power of life and death is in the tongue.

I could always be wrong, but I don't think this game will be all that close. I think the Bills offensive talent is being undervalued by many. They have dynamic talent at every skill position and a solid enough offensive line. They won't be perfect as it is week one, and the first extensive action they will have gotten (so expect some penalties). However, I still believe they put up a good number of points and we see Tyrod begin to take the next step. Defensively, I think it comes down to pass defense. I don't believe the Ravens will be able to run consistently. Even without Dareus in the lineup. Bills should be able to generate some INT's by getting Flacco uncomfortable in the pocket. The TO's give the Bills more scoring opportunities. I think the Bills wills win by between 10-14 points.

WGR needs to work on their format and their hosts.

The Bills have a real chance to win Sunday because...

Whoever they are is a very intelligent person with the finest taste. -
I don't see it. Their LB's and DB's are very beatable. Their D-line has Wake coming off an injury and Mario who didn't look good last season and hasn't looked like vintage Mario this preseason either. Perhaps they've just been playing possum the past year, but I'm not counting on it. And offensively that O-line is a liability. Tannehill is Tannehill. What do you think I am overlooking and should be fearful of?
-
Extremely. The Dolphins are not that good on defense and their offensive line and QB play is questionable. The Jets are iffy. Good on D; Forte is nice add. Like their WR's. But Fitz is still Fitz. The Bills top skill position players are better than the skill positions on either of those two teams. Taylor, Watkins, McCoy, Clay; would you rather them or the Dolphins/Jets top skill position player? The Bills offensive line should be at least decent as it was last season. I would hope for improvement from Miller. For all the talk of the Bills defense being bad, and they were in comparison to past seasons, they were basically middle of the pack. This team is all about improvement at the QB position. I fully expect Tyrod to take a step forward. If he does and the Bills get the same effort as last year everywhere else they will be in the playoffs. There were a couple games last season the Bills could have won with better play from #5 at the end of the game. (Philly and KC) Of course all of this is contingent on health, but that's every teams caveat.

Sully throws in the towel too

Agree with you. But after 16 years it's the default position. Any adversity hits and a lot of minds go belly-up. -
Vikings trade for Bradford

Yuck. Hill and Bradford aren't that far apart except in age. -
Depth will be a problem this year
purple haze replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do you think there is a lack of depth. I hear people say this all the time, but based on what? They have good backups on DL, DB, RB. I like the WR's. EJ is no worse than most backup QB's. I can see LB and Interior OL, being a concern for some, but that's not an across the board issue and the truth is a back up is not as good as a starter in most cases. Great depth is the mythological creature everyone says exists, but we rarely see across every position on any team. -
Tony Romo Broken Bone in Back
purple haze replied to Beef Jerky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He needs to retire. At this point it is diminishing returns for him. The back is nothing to play with and this is the second time he's hurt it. A report on NFL Network said if he does come back mid-season he would need an epidural to play. Beyond that, Jerry Jones should have planned better. I know Moore broke his ankle, but he doesn't seem like a good plan for a QB likely to have to play due to Romo's issues the last few years. Prescott looks great now, but once the game planning starts I would expect him to look more like a rookie. A few years from now I think he'll be a beast though. Wanted the Bills to take him. -
He wakes up whining. The dude always has a gripe about something, which wouldn't be so bad if he didn't constantly have and revisit the same topics. There is a world of sports to be talked about. If the Bills and Sabres don't have anything interesting going on to be discussed talk about any number of subjects in the broader sports world. Meat drafts? Movie drafts? Three hours on the same topic. No thank you. Buffalo deserves a true sports station that is serious about sports. I like Bulldog when Bulldog is by himself or with a different co-host. Jeremy White is okay. Sal is cool too, but they could use more talent over there. And Jones is okay, seeing as he's just starting in the industry, and especially when compared to others on WGR. At least he knows what he's talking about.
-
Well, problem with that is he has been with the team since the end of last season. He should've known the playbook months ago. If he doesn't is he not putting the time in to study?

Is Cyrus Kouandjio Still a Bust?
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he plays well as a LT he won't get big money, but someone very well could pay him a lot more than the Bills would as a backup. LT are too needed. -
If other players are constantly having to instruct him they aren't concentrating on what they need to do. And if it happens to be in a hurry up situation, he could slow everything down and that is a no no. If Rex is pointing out this issue then it is a serious issue. Coaches, at any level, are not prone to cut players who can help their teams win games.

Josh Gordon - Would you trade for him?
purple haze replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that he is extremely talented. I disagree Woods is not a number 2. In the Bills offense, he is fine as a number 2. Because the number 2 is the fourth option anyway. Shady, Watkins and Clay being 1-3. I agree Woods will leave in FA after this season. His numbers are commensurate with Marvin Jones and Muhammad Sanu and they got paid. If the Bills did not have Marcell in rehab, I would be all over a Josh Gordon trade. But Gordon is so unreliable I don't think it's worth it. And the optics would look bad for the organization.
