2017 NFL Mock Drafts & Top Prospects
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in College Football
If they let Gilmore walk I think they go Corner. Rex needs CB's for his defense and Seymour isn't so established they wouldn't bring in competition. -
It's worth it for several reasons: 1. The going rate for a #2 receiver is going to be in the range Smith makes now if not more. 2. He's only 27, fits into the "prime" of the other offensive weapons and adds an explosive element to the offense for not just this season, but the remainder of his contract as well, which paired with Watkins would be nice to have. 3. I believe the Bills only have Watkins, Powell and Listenbee under contract at the position after this season. Woods/Hunter/Goodwin/Salas are all FA. 4. He's been durable and dependable. A good locker room guy. Knows Tyrod too being from Virgina and playing for the Ravens. So there could be some good chemistry there. 5. They are not giving Gilmore what he wants. And they shouldn't. Which means it's very likely the Bills are looking at a first round CB to throw in the mix with Seymour. So it's better, to me, to get a proven WR through a trade. Or just re-sign Woods. But money being equal, Smith gives a team a more explosive option than Woods. If Whaley could get Smith to re-negotiate the terms of his deal fine, but I think this is a trade I can see Whaley making either way.

Why aren't the Bills being more aggressive during the trade?
purple haze replied to JTO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do you assume Whaley hasn't been inquiring? If we know nothing else of Whaley during his tenure it's that he's always open to making a deal and he's always watching the waiver wire. But because the Bills have needs doesn't mean the right deal is out there. What if the Bears wanted a first for Jeffrey? Or a first and a third? Would it be worth trading assets for a WR, like Jeffrey, who is a FA at the end of the year? The Bills still have to re-sign some of these players who are on one year deals, like Lo Alexander and Zach Brown, if it's possible. They have to decide what to do with Gilmore, Woods and also get ready to pay Darby and Sammy in the next couple years. Or what if the Bears said Jeffrey is not available? And Ray Rice hasn't played in a year and half. Not a great option. -
Lauren Tannehill or Giselle Bundchen, please vote!
purple haze replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lauren Tannehill is a dime for six dozen. Blonde, bland, pleasant, unsexy girl next door. Giselle has much more flavor. But get in where you fit in. To each their own. -
Does Shaq get his 1st sack.
purple haze replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex's defense puts players in position to use their strenghts though. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Shaq gets one before the day is over. Particularly because he will probably play mostly on passing downs and the Bills front 7 has other, proven, talent the Dolphins will need to account for. And remember, Shaq can rush standing up from an OLB position, hand in the dirt from the DE position and don't be shocked if Rex lines him up at DT on some passing downs to let him rush from there while leaving Hughes and Alexander in the game. This is why I wanted the Bills to draft Shaq. He's versatile along with his physical talent and intangibles. -
The Buffalo News screws up again
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IK Very true. Especially in terms of information within a written piece. But in this instance it would be easy to go to the team website and find a picture of John Miller. Or Google him. No excuse for this one. -
It seems like they are saving him for the second half of the year. I don't believe, after everything we heard about how he looked in camp, he's of no use to them. I think the second half of year we start seeing Bush and Shady on the field at the same time and Bush become more of a receiving threat than a runner. Of course I could be wrong. But they've had ample opportunity to let him go if that's what they wanted to do. I'm looking forward to seeing him play. He's who I wanted the Bills to draft so I want to see how right I was.

Jim Monos is One to Watch as a Future NFL GM
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No reason to take those two out. There is no player in the league Whaley and Monos don't know about. Because Rex wanted Tyrod does not mean it was all Rex. The Pro Personnel people know every player available. If there were other FA QB's commensurate to Tyrod, and Rex preferred Tyrod, then the GM would try to make that happen. -
How so? He hears the anthem every week. And he knows there are many who don't like his form of protest. And there would probably never be 75 thousand singing because there are probably a good number who agree with him, whether they take a knee or stand or not. That's a weird thing to say. Are you drunk posting? Yes and no. He's drawn attention, but unfortunately, too many people choose not to address the issues he's referring to because they have made his protest into what they want it to be instead of what he's discussed. But people have the right to "counter" protest if they so desire. Boo him, turn your back on him, sing the anthem extra loud because you think it means you love the country more than anyone else, etc. So long as it's peaceful.

2017 Alexander, Woods, Brown>Gilmore
purple haze replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mohammad Sanu and Marvin Jones both got more than 6 mil per and their stats are basically identical to Robert Woods and Woods has played in less games with worse QB play. He's tough, physical in the run game, runs very good routes, doesn't complain, does what is asked. He will get his money somewhere. Pro Personnel people will know what he can do. -
Andre Reed telling Pats fan story at Bills TG in LA
purple haze replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't hit the tailgate, but the game was a great experience. Good to roll out of bed, get a 30 minute train ride and walk up to stadium to see the Bills. And as I expected, Bills fans were deep in the building, and very loud. -
I'm not surprised ratings aren't as strong. Bad officiating. Calls are inconsistent or nonsensical in too many games week after week. Too much production. Games aren't as special as they used to be. Football is on all week between college and pro and there are a million pre and post-game shows. Too many commercials for many people. Too many obvious money grabs turn off people who simply like the game and the traditions. Color rush uniforms. Breast cancer awareness pink this, that and the other. A lot of patriotic jingoism tied into the game when before one turned on a game and that's all they got. And then it's discovered that the military is paying for the presence at the game. Nothing is organic. Some folks may be turned off by the Concussion issues. Some other folks may be turned off to players expressing themselves politically. All that said, the NFL is still making hand over fist.

According to ESPN, Clay ruled out Sunday as well.
purple haze replied to Bubba Gump's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clayton is fairly terrible. They should spend the money on having Louis Riddick on. He's much more insightful. And he will challenge the hosts. -
It is a crap shoot. If you go back and look at any NFL GM they will have a lot of misses. It's a part of the profession. The Steelers and Ravens win a lot: good coaching. Good QB'ing too. That's the difference. QB and coaching. All in all Whaley has done fine. He's not afraid to make a move and he's picked up some good players off the scrap heap too. Like the GM's before him he has to find that QB. If it's not Tyrod, hope Cardale develops more quickly than expected or that there is a QB they can get access too. I'm still holding out for Tyrod to pull his passing game skills together. He can make every throw and he can be accurate. He has to do better seeing the entire field.

It's Official, Rex is Delusional
purple haze replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why fire Rob? He's a consultant and worked for the most part with the LB's who are playing fairly well. If you want the D-Coordinator gone you want Rex gone. -
Is Cyrus Kouandjio Still a Bust?
purple haze replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For this season that might be the best move to make. Glenn got paid, so it's not costing him $ to do it. I think Glenn at RT is better than Mills at RT, although I don't think Mills is bad. He's just average. They should get their best OL on the field, period. Let Cyrus stay at LT since that's where he does well and Glenn at RT. That said, the problem, ultimately, is Tyrod is not taking the next step. -
Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
purple haze replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Get what? Who would you want have wanted him to take that was certain to be good? -
This scapegoating angle is one that is easy if people aren't paying attention. The Defense was horrendous Thursday night, true enough. Week 1 they were good, in spite of the one big play they gave up. Why didn't the Bills win week 1? OFFENSE. The offense was better on Thursday night... which should indicate to people how incompetent it was in Baltimore. Because Thursday night, outside of a few big plays, was just as poor. They do not keep possession of the ball. They get play calls in late, thus causing burned timeouts or penalties. They seem to refuse to target Watkins. (Didn't they learn last season good things happen when they involve him?) They do not use Tyrod on rollouts or bootlegs. He's great in space, so why not? They do not seem to try to get McCoy into space. They do not use McCoy's ability run routes down field. He's catching dump-offs and swing passes, but could do more. They do not use Watkin's total football ability. No screens, no reverses, etc. They run overwrought schemes (See EJ on 3 and 1 w/Tyrod split out wide.) They do not use Clay in the pass game at all. The coach has to stress certain things from the QB. The offense plays with no sense of urgency when the situations call for it. The offense does not vary its pace. No hurry up sequences. No going without a huddle. Change up the look and the pace. The offense, last season, even with their improved stats, displayed many of these same traits. All of those things are related to coaching. Roman, as the OC, was given the power to oversee the offense. Could they have kept him around? Sure. But it's not beyond the pale that he got the fired; especially if there were internal disagreements about his method of operation. If Sammy plays next Sunday and gets 10 targets or more the decision is already a win for that alone. These OC's try to be too damn cute. You have playmakers, eff what the defense is doing, take what you want and use your playmakers. Did Aikman not throw to Irvin because he was "covered". Did you ever see Montana take what the defense gave him and ignore Rice? I remember seeing Thurman Thomas in the backfield, split out wide, catching dump-offs, swing passes, middle screens, go routes, post routes etc. Last Sunday in AZ, the Cards lost, but who was getting fed the rock no matter what? Fitzgerald. Use your strengths coach.

Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
purple haze replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I Disagree. The DB's had a bad game. Last season Darby and Gilmore played very well. They played well in Week 1. They played well against the Jets in the Thursday night game last season in the Meadowlands. Bills were 8-8 last year, 9-7 the year before that. Those are competitive rosters. Non-competitive rosters are picking in the top 5 of the draft. EVERY team in the league has trouble covering Gronkowski. That's why he's a beast. His size speed combination is unheard of. The accountability for the Bills performance is on the coaches and, moreso, on the players. -
How long would Coughlin want to go on though? They would need a coach who can be around for a while, if successful. Go young. It's the one thing they haven't tried yet.
