  1. I get that, but if he's not the man to hire and fire how open can he be? He still has to toe the company line, no? I wouldn't expect him to say, "It wasn't me. I wanted Hue Jackson and Schwartz to stay on as DC. The Pegula's wanted Rex and I did what I had to do." Whaley isn't a great public speaker, but I think the answers are between the lines with him usually. BTW, thank you for the interaction. It was telling who the Pegula's responded to in order to clarify things. They seem to be people who respond to fairness, even if it comes within a valid critique; as opposed to other styles of reporting.
  2. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the press game. It's a lot of junior high he said she said not type stuff. No one at the press conference is calling a play come September and no one who they hire as coach is worrying himself about public relations capabilities of the team. If they come in for an interview that narrative can be put to rest easily. They will have the access TBN isn't getting. What these candidates will also know is that the Pegula's paid Rex very well, gave him the huge coaching staff he wanted and paid all of those assistants and had a GM who got players Rex felt he needed. The coach was supported by the organization. Rex did not deliver on his end, in fact taking his unit backward, but it was not because the owner/front office did not provide resources. Let the media talk about that while they talk about press conferences and press releases. The Bills are bad at press conferences. The Pegula's got taken in by Rex. The fact Whaley is still there tells me the Pegula's did make the call on Rex. This next coach is all Whaley's to sink or swim with.
  3. He should get double the commission on the deal because his phone bills will be otherworldly.
  4. Every one of the candidates the Bills are potentially interviewing, save Reich, are being interviewed by multiple other teams as well.
  5. Which gives the indication why Whaley is still employed by the Pegula's. If Rex was his guy and they fired Rex there would be no reason to keep Whaley. Michael Silver has said Hue Jackson was in the running w/Rex but Rex won out. People are connecting dots these days connect those dots...
  6. ?? Wow. Might explain why his name wasn't mentioned too much for open jobs in the power 5.
  7. Then he should move on to another market. Just as teams need to turn over personnel so should news outlets if their workers cannot be fair and balanced. The Pegula's nor Whaley have been in Buff for twenty years. Wawrow and Capaccio report fairly. They critique the Bills, as they should, but don't go overboard with exaggerations or slanted pieces. No wonder why the Pegula's responded to them for interviews.
  8. JW and Sal said they reached out to the Pegula's and the Pegula's responded to them. The Pegula's did not initiate these interviews. I don't believe they care what x, y, z journalists think.
  9. Exactly. And Kim Pegula talked to Sal Capaccio. It is apparent who is respected by the Pegula's and who are left in the cold; the Buffalo News.
  10. Yep. Or just being beaten down by the streak and what the local media harp on daily on air and in print.
  11. No, what you are seeing is the flawed character of some people; the lack of reasoning skills in some others; and an agenda by a newspaper that, to my eye, seems to be personal. I don't have a problem with fans being unsatisfied with the product. None of us are. But people throwing insults around on social media, etc. is, as my mother would say, is "low rent and no account."
  12. Not an obvious solution. Although it is always possible one or two of the QBs in the draft turn into something. Gilmore at top 5 CB is a non-starter. If that's the demand he should be allowed to walk. Same as Byrd was allowed to walk, and I wanted the Bills to keep him. Whaley turned out to be right about him.
  13. They didn't hurry up and hire Rex. They interviewed 10-12 coaches in all...
  14. Exactly. This was nothing short of a pre-season game. When they said EJ was starting you all should have already known what time it was; EJ paired with Bills sorry D was a long day waiting to happen.
  15.   They can finish with the 9th pick provided Carolina, Eagles and another team win today. Can't remember the third team.
  16. Rex was an experienced HC. Marrone was a HC in college. Gailey had been a HC before. They have tried hot coordinators (Williams and Mularkey), the college guy (Marrone), the big name (Rex). At this point I don't care. Just hire the guy they feel is the right guy for the job. Every option they have tried will mirror an option they have previously tried and failed with anyway. They have to do that anyway in the back 7. A Will might retire, Gilmore is probably gone, Graham might not be back, and if he is it's probably for depth. The stars align for a DC who likes bigger athletes in the back 7.
  17. It is most definitely true that A. Lynn does not have the coordinator experience of other candidates like Austin or Jackson or Bowles or any other black/white/green/purple candidate who is coming from a coordinator position. Agreed. Also agree it would seem a big jump going from RB to one season of OC before becoming a HC. I think, though, that does not preclude a team from having interest in him. He is not a guy coming from the shoe department at Macy's or some law firm practice. He has been in the NFL as a player and as a coach for over twenty years. Some see that as a deficit. I see it as a guy who keeps finding work in an unforgiving industry where change is constant. It tells me he does good work and has the respect of other coaches around the league. He's worked on staff for Mike Shanahan, Jack Del Rio and Bill Parcells before working with Rex. I see far too often many of these interviews thrown away by some fans when in reality a particular candidate is but one of a few men of color who were interviewed for the same HC gig. Also, those coordinator positions have been, traditionally, as hard to get as HC positions for coaches of color. I apologize if you felt I was attacking you. That wasn't my intention. I was trying to make a more general point about the situation. I liked Hue Jackson for the Bills too, but was happy with Rex because I thought he would be able to take the defense to the next level. Rex had HC and DC experience... We won't know until we know. Could be that A. Lynn is the next great HC.
  18. The main issue is technology. Anyone can create an "article" now. Most people are lazy and assume that whatever is online must be true without going to multiple sources; and even when they do, the next issue arises: to keep up with the clicks (advertising dollars) blogs get and the easy access people have to "news" without having to buy an actual newspaper or deal with a pay wall, the more traditional outlets have created journalists that turn the sports section into "hot-takes" to spur interest and get clicks. Technology is killing many industries from photography to music to journalism. It's not just blue collar jobs.
  19. A. Lynn interviewed for the 49ers and the Dolphins last year; so did Teryl Austin who also interviewed for other HC openings, including the Bears, Bills, Falcons and Browns who also, wait for it, interviewed Hue Jackson and Todd Bowels. I thought the Rooney rule only required one interview with a person of color? Perhaps A. Lynn and others are good at their jobs and respected in league circles, in spite of what message board group-think would have everyone believe? I am not saying that the Rooney rule thing has not been misused at times, but it does not mean every black man who gets an interview is just there because of his pigment. I will also say that the men who get the interviews do have qualifications to be interviewed. Some folks act like they are coaches who have never coached in the NFL, have no experience whatever, etc., which is ridiculous and says a lot about the mindset of those folks.
  20. Lynn could have a HC gig before that type of transition could take place.
  21. You read on Bleacher report? Did Whaley and the Pegula's not give Rex every player he wanted, in spite of being in control of the 53? Sounds to me like bleacher report is reading TBN and running with the conjecture.
