I know Schoebel has been productive, but if you can move him to another team during this transition you do it. A position switch would be difficult for him. Not a hard worker, does not show up for anything mandatory and his attitude is poor at best. Definitely not the type of player you want with a new coach and alot of young players likely to come in. Move him for whatever you can. In the long run it will best for the team.

nevergiveup,
Just wanted to give you another measure of thanks from all of us here. You haven't always brought us the best news this offseason, but you've been 100% accurate despite some of the flack you've taken for bringing your information here. And we as fans and members of this board are very appreciative that you've taken the time to post here and share it with us.
Now, 2 questions I have:
- We're hearing rumors of Bates interviewing for DC. I've also heard rumor of Herm Edwards. Do you have any idea who might be the frontrunner to get this position?
- Is Reeves being considered at all to join the staff? If so, in what capacity?
Thanks in advance, if you can provide any insight!
No information at this time. However I did post a few days ago that I believe it is likely that Sanders and Catavolos will be back. That should confirm the reports that came out today.
Sorry I don't have anyhting.

This.
As for the timing of the release, it should be blatantly obvious by now that just like the New Year's Eve-afternoon PC to introduce Nix and the scant advance notice given when Fewell was named the interim HC (Jauron "officially" fired at 3pm, Fewell promotion not announced until almost 7pm for an 8:30pm PC when several of the beat guys have an hour-plus commute to the stadium), someone in the PR dept. is deliberately trying to manipulate coverage.
Unless they're either being told to do so by someone further up the chain of command, or merely incompetent.
If I had written that blog post re:the midnight massacre, I wouldn't have been nearly as polite.
Completely incompetent PR staff and a poor attempt at manipulating coverage. You are right on both counts. Could they have become concerned about information getting out prematurely?
Difficult to evaluate Guy coming out of that situation. Never had much pull in the organization. We will probably find out a lot more when he makes his next stop like some other football people that have departed. Either way, as many have pointed out, it was a necessary move and was a lock to happen as soon as Buddy was hired.

Don't go running off, now. It's nice to have someone with a clue as to what the oracles at OBD are doing for a change, since they are TERRIBLE at communicating anything with the public (I suspect, by design). Can you tell me: does Ralph do things to intentionally tweak the fans? He HAD to have known that the fans wanted some big names in the front office. He HAS to understand the fans want Guy and Modrak out. And yet, none of these things happened, and he chose to emphasize that even though Nix was hired to "run" the football operations, he still reports to Brandon. I'm quite certain that NOBODY wanted to hear that little tidbit because we all know where that road leads....
Nix: I think we should bring in free agent "X"
Brandon: How much will he cost?
Nix: $X million
Brandon: Sorry, too expensive. How about a third-tier guy instead?
Sorry for the rant, just sick of the half-measures.
Ralph does not do it intentionally. As many have suspected he just doesn't know what to do any more and even when he does he is not able to see it through to fruition. Really is that simple unfortunately. That does not mean this pairing will not work. Just let's you know how it happens. Don't completely panic. Buddy is a very good evaluator and Gailey will be an improvement over Jaroun. Should be able to add talent and it will be better coached. It's not a big name duo, but it's better than before. So let's hope it works.
-
I'd imagine Gailey has his own candidate in mind.
Lori. I beleive that Catavolos and Sanders will return. Both good coaches. No ideas on the DC, but if they stay that is a good start for that side of the ball. Not 100% positive.
I am not sure about Van Pelt. But it would not surprise me.

Reading comprehension: "But the Bills couldn't consider Schottenheimer a candidate because Wilson wasn't comfortable with him, the sources said. "
Tim merely reported what he was told, by someone close enough to Schottenheimer to make him think the story was worth writing. NGU is giving you the story coming from a source inside One Bills Drive. You decide which one you want to believe... or neither.
You can believe Tim Graham if you like. When he finds out who the GM and coach is maybe he can let us all know. He had no clue that Gailey was even in the mix. If there is any spin it is from the "ESPN Insider" who was completely left in the dust on this entire process.
I have nothing against Tim Graham. Seems like a decent person and a good journalist. But he is just flat out wrong on this piece. I am sure Marty was told it was Ralph by Buddy or whomever. What would you expect? Again, if Buddy wanted Marty he could have had him. Not sure why anyone would want a coach that the GM wasn't comfortable with anyway. We have seen how that has worked out.
I guess it doesn't really even matter. Sorry to start a controversey. Again, I am just trying to contribute some information. I will back off the topic.
-
Claiming that Ralph did not have a strong hand in picking CG over Marty is just impossible to believe. Given the public attititude surrounding the importance of a big score at a new HC, no way Buddy Pyle is going to, on his own, dismiss Marty out of hand.
Does anybody really think that an unemployed Marty, desperate to get back in the game, would demand "full control" before he would take a job? Complete nonsense.
Nevergiveup clearly is a Bills employee of some type (Chirs Brown?) and this post is meant to deflect blame from Ralph and to make it seem that the once nearly-retired Nix is a man in his own right over there at OBD.
Just trying to provide some legitimate information. Ralph can be blamed for many things. All I was pointing out was that this was Buddy's decision. The last thing I am is an apologist for Ralph. No one has time to cover for all the missteps he has made. However I thought you would want some legitimate information on this situation. My mistake. Go on believing whatever you like.

I edited my previous post. Kornheiser's reaction today was:
Gailey is the guy you hire when you're going out of business. Stuff like that makes me wonder.
I don't buy that at all. Agree or disagree he is the coach now. I like this set up better than what we had.
Talk to you later

Why do national reporters consistenly say the Bills have a hard time filling the stadium....fan support....blah blah and never get called on it? The tone is always negative when it comes to the Bills.
Never understood it either. Obviously the support is there.
-
How badly does Ralph want the Bills to stay in Buffalo? How much pressure is the rest of the league putting into the situation in an effort to force them out?
That is a little deep for tonight. But I feel pretty comfortable there is no pressure from thr league. He wants the team to stay, but that doesn't mean he will do what it takes to keep it in Buffalo. He wants to win as well, how has that been working out?
-
Candidates routinely publicly deny interest in positions that they are not assured of in order to protect their image and status if they do not get it in the end. I'm sure you've seen this before.
You've now gotten it from a source close to Marty and from someone who has proven they have information from inside Bills management. Give it up.
Thanks Joey

Interesting; thanks. Ralph hired Nix after a nonexistent search, though, so whoever made the decision re: Marty, it's pretty much Wilson's responsibility in the end.
I agree. Ultimately everything comes back to Ralph, but if Buddy wanted Marty, he could have hired him. I thought it was important to clarify.

-
I know it's hard to believe, but it was not Ralph that shot down Marty. Yes, Marty wanted the job. He wanted it well before Buddy was even hired. But it was Buddy's call. I am sure Buddy did not want that to be public having worked with Marty. I don't know how it was spun back on Ralph. He makes his share of mistakes, but that one was not him.
I am not necessarily supporting the hire, But in the end, Buddy needs someone he can work with and if he thinks that is Gailey and not Marty, that probably has the best chance of working anyway.
Regarding Thurman, does anyone think that someone who goes on WGR every other day has access to any inside information from the Bills? I guess you can value his opinion. But he will likely never have any inside info.
-
You have established yourself as a VERY reliable source for real Bills news and I suspect I speak for the vast majority of posters here when I say thanks. As for the 2 posters you mention, ignore them. That's what I do.
You are welcome.
Good advice. I think they are well informed and researched, but most of the time way off base with their actual opinions. I will try to ignore them.
-
Another notch in Nevergiveup's belt.
PTR
Still not done yet.
If it is correct however, I will need an apology from Thurman1 and Billsnutinhouston before I help you guys out again. They are tough.
-
Probably this thread
Amazing.
-
Come on man, if you had a source that was giving you reliable information would you throw him under a bus to satisfy the curiosity of some people on a forum? Believe him or don't, but looking at his track record makes me believe him over the other bozo's who are currently being quoted.
Thank you.
Again, not completely sure, did not want to panic the nation, but I thought you would want the info.
Also...based on the post from Billsfansince 61, it is appearing more and more likely. Seems like a plant.
-
Never......could you please change the title of your thread at least for the time being?
Its very misleading
Sorry John. Made the change.
-
Actually he was one of the folks I'd thought about as an OC when we were all drooling for Cowher given that connection. Obviously I don't know your source but I'd want to check that he was going to be HC, not OC for someone else.
This was definitely for the HC position. However I think OC would be preferable as well.
-
Just curious as to if you knew what the team sees in this guy?
Not doubting you (you've proven too reliable for that), just doesn't make sense to me.
I think it would be better to see how it plays out first. I don't know that is a done deal, but feel pretty good about it. Sounds like most hope I am wrong.
-
Not nearly as ugly as it will be if you're right.
Now that was funny.
-
I have reason to believe this is your new head coach. I am not completely 100%, but would not post it in this manner if I did not think it was credible. There are no links for this information. I know it will be ugly if I am wrong, but I thought you would want the information.
Could be as soon as tomorrow.

... Because the special teams weren't that special this past season.
The special teams over his tenure were some of the best in the NFL. More than 10 teams contacted him when he opted out. What more do you need to know?

Sorry for being a ghost lately.
From what I know, it seems like most on this board most could be the GM. If they can, Lynch will be moved. Not a good fit from a chemistry standpoint with the new staff and direction. No news flash, but just verifying what most of you already know. They are looking hard at FA backs. Unfortunately I don't have any names. But you guys will be able to pin it down.
The only QB they would take at 9 is Bradford. Since he will be gone, you are probably looking at an OT. Sleepers will be Spiller depending on what happens with Lynch and Dan Williams. Need a NT and it appears they like him.
I know it's not anything very solid, but it's all I have right now.
The only other thing is that I would be surprised if Schoebel stays. The next voluntary camp he shows for will be his first. I don't think that attitude will play well with this group. It is actually a good thing. He will either committ or be gone, which is what this team needs.
