So tired of "Dope" and the "Lapdog" on WGR 550 making
The Helmet of replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was able to break away from the show -- I used to listen all the time and haven't listened in over six months. It feels good. The fact of the matter is that Schopp doesn't really like sports. Rather, he's into the culture of sports. There is a significant difference. I suspect that most of the people that visit these boards watch sports for the nature of athletic competition -- amazingly trained physical athletes competing against each other, football minds scheming against each other, etc. None of that matters to Schopp. As was pointed out earlier, all he wants to discuss are stats, why athletes are stupid, why management is stupid, why fans are stupid, why callers are stupid, etc. He offers nothing from the athletic perspective. That's the main reason I stopped listening to him. The other reason is that he's a downright dick to the callers -- very disrespectful and contemptuous of the common man. He's an absolute jackass -- a mean-spirited jerk. To hell with Mike Schopp. I encourage everyone to stop listening to the afternoon show. It will improve you life. -
WGR 550 the low rent district of radio
The Helmet of replied to mchammer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Try checking out 97rock.com for next time. They stream their postgame show online and it's far from brilliant, but they actually talk about the game. Schopp is one of the most mean-spirted, downright hateful and condescending *ricks I've ever heard, not just on the radio, but in life. I refuse to listen to the afternoon show. -
What a joke. How does this guy pass a physical if his Achilles can be strained after 15 minutes of practice? Maybe in his downtime, he can collaborate on a new rap song with Maybin, since neither will be playing again this season (I predict)

Did anyone else notice how on third and goal (before the 4th and goal when he threw his second interception) Edwards threw it to a receiver who had been on the ground, and out of the play, for at least three seconds??? The pervious comments about how Edwards looks different, "more comfortable" and "more decisive" are some of the most asinine comments I think I've ever seen. Anyone who thinks Edwards has looked good in this game... wow... I won't go into insult mode...

You're right: Allen Wilson reported that Modrak wanted Cushing, probably to replace Poz... who is obviously a bust.

Did you ever try to think of something from a journalist's perspective? Or do you think that journalists just sit down at their computers and write stream of consciousness drivel, like you do when posting at OBD??? Jesus, man, give Mark Gaughan a break. It's not easy to cover this team week in and week out; he can't write negative stuff four times a week. He has the license to take a light-hearted perspective once in a while. Jerry Sullivan writes negative stuff every week, people complain. Mark Gaughan writes something positive and light-hearted, people complain. I liked the article. What I don't like is your pointless cynicism...

Are we really going to let Poz become a free agent?
The Helmet of replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like most Bills fans, I had really high hopes for Poz. I loved the pick and thought it was a steal. However, after having a chance to re-watch several of the games, I'm truly convinced that Poz is the worst player on the entire defense. I'm really not exaggerating. I encourage you all to look at some of the replays this year. He is always two steps behind and he's never in position to make a play. It's not just "ten yards down field" as some of you allege, but usually 12, 15, 18 yards down field. In fact, it's common for a tight end or a full back to drive him 10 yards off the ball with ease. It's clear to me that he doesn't have the instincts or the reaction speed time to play in the NFL. He's a bad football player, and I'm not convinced he's capable of becoming a quality linebacker in the league, period. Can anyone point to ONE play this year where you thought -- "wow, I'm glad he's on our defense?" I don't even care about the injuries -- he's simply not good at football. Neither Poz nor Kelsay should be on the team. Cut them both, and throw in Coleman, Maybin, Moats, etc. What has Gailey got to lose, except the first pick in the draft... -
This is definitely a possibility. Maybe Gailey didn't like his attitude... He must have done something in the locker room, in the film room, etc. to make a bad impression... or maybe he violated the league's substance abuse policy and the appeal is still pending -- the media aren't always made aware of these cases... It's tough to speculate about why a player is cut when we don't know what goes on behind the scenes...

I see. Makes sense. Thanks for the intel!

The blackout extends stricly to Buffalo & Rochester, yet it appears that Syracuse will not get the game. But is the game blacked out in Syracuse -- or simply not being shown as the primary game. i.e., can I go to a sports' bar in the cuse and catch the game??? (which I know I couldn't do in Buffalo or Rochester)... If anyone knows the answer to this I'd appreciate it...

NO, he was the best player on the field in week one. Maybe stop making huge generalizations about a player after one half...

Another Classic Performance by Joe Theisman

Funny, I thought the same thing! He looked at Snyder with an almost erotic intensity! How many hours does he spend in the tanning booth before gametime? -
Trent Edwards' confidence
The Helmet of replied to The Helmet of's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this 100%, and I have been among Trent's biggest detractors. I wanted Gailey and Nix to cut him when they assumed control of the team. I'm just allowing for the possibility, however small it might be, that after a few weeks in camp with Gailey, Trent becomes a different QB with more confidence. I've never heard Trent say "I need to fire it in there and be accurate with it" before. I'm just saying that this is an encouraging response, not the bland "we need to keep working hard" nonsense that Trent usually offers up for the media... I mean, what's the point of having all these practice sessions, watching film, having meetings, if it doesn't mean that some players improve. Gailey and his staff, after all, are known for being great teachers... -
This is perhaps the most encouraging thing I've heard Trent say in quite some time, per Gaughan in TBN: "Lee's one of the best go-ball route-runners in this league, I feel like. He runs them down, he pins the guy, he gets open downfield. We just have to protect. I've got to be able to let it fly. I've got to be accurate with it." YES!, TRENT, YOU FINALLY GOT IT! LET IT FLY! STOP CHECKING DOWN EVERY PLAY! Maybe Gailey can get through to Edwards after all? (or maybe I'm trying too hard to find something to be optimistic about?) I think all along Trent's problem has been confidence and a sort of psychological hesitancy. If Gailey can be Trent's shrink and get his confidence level back up, who knows, maybe he can still turn him into an NFL QB. He has the prototypical size. Let's hope Gailey tutors Edwards the right way and unlocks his dormant potential ... Or am I just another irrational die-hard fan trying too hard to find a shred of hope as the season approaches?

While I certainly understand the criticisms directed towards Mike Schopp (he hates football; he hates the Bills organization; he is arrogant and rude to callers on a consistent basis, frequently ignoring the main points they make and instead choosing to pick out some minor flaw in the caller's logic, which shows how petty and mean-spirited he is)... I must admit I've never understood the negatively directed towards Jerry Sullivan.... Look at his recent piece on Eric Wood. It can hardly be construed as negative or pessimistic. Sullivan is a good journalist. He's not from the area and he gives the team a fair shake. Yes, it's probably true that he has written more negative things over the years than positive things..., but maybe there's a reason for that? After all, unless I've missed something, the Bills have done more negative things than positive things over the last decade! His running commentary on the Bills simply reflects a poorly-run organization. Nothing more, nothing less. And in fact, Sullivan is by far the best journalist on staff at TBN. He has a good sense of what it means to be a journalist -- and it's clear that he is a student of sports in general. He reads a lot of sports' history and he has insightful things to say about the games, and about the culture of sports. What more could we ask for? If you want sunshine and optimism, read Chris Brown, whose recent pondering about what C.J Spiller's birthday tweet "hinted at" (absolutely nothing) surely satisfied the "hope springs eternal" section of our fanbase...

I disagree entirely. Since when has good journalism ever been dispassionate? Don't conflate or confound objectivity with a lack of passion and conviction... Good for you, JW, for having the courage to buck the trend...

[closed]Donte Whitner did not quit twitter
The Helmet of posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He lied: http://twitter.com/DONTEWHITNER -
Whitner did NOT QUIT TWITTER -- just like he didn't give away the superbowl tickets he promised. He is still tweeting away... He's an absolute idiot. He must have the lowest IQ of anyone on the team. He can't even follow through on his pledge to quit a social networking site -- and yet some believe he's going to follow through on his guarantee to make the playoffs... I can't understand why anyone would defend him...

PFT claiming that Donte Witner
The Helmet of replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Donte Whitner is an idiot. I stopped following him on twitter months ago. This doesn't surprise me at all. -
I agree completely, but I'm not sure Gailey is smart enough to go hybrid. Remember, he said that most of the time what wins you football games is blocking and tackling. Everybody has the "bumble-ruski," after all... I don't think Gailey is the sort of cutting-edge innovator that will design creative and versatile schemes, like Belichick always seems to do in New England. I predict the same old boring Tampa 2, because it's the easy choice.
-
The retention of Bob Sanders on the staff seems to indicate that Gailey is planning on sticking with the 4-3. Sanders coached a 4-3 while he was with the Packers, and while here. He doesn't seem to fit the bill if Gailey is planning on switching to a 3-4, unless he reassigns Sanders to coach a different position (which seems unlikely)...

is he talking about Jauron, or is he talking about Fewell? one needs to specify!
