  1. The left side of their line definitely seemed better than the right side. Any of the sacks/pressures I saw came from a right side blitz, and on some of the runs he had his man pushed nearly to the sidelines. Definitely would like to see him picked up in the 2nd if he makes it there

  2. This cant be real. Newton getting taken over Luck, Locker getting taken in the first round, Failey (sic) and Dareus getting taken ~10th or later and Detroit passing on Amukamara?

Pretty sure a random drunk at a bar in Alaska could give you a better mock.

EDIT: Also should be noted that players' descriptions have not been updated since before this past season.

  3. Talk about a sad state of affairs. Bill Polian will go down in history as the Greatest GM in NFL History. He's the one that helped build those Super Bowl Teams of the 90s.

    Fixed it for you.

Not only was he responsible for one of the best teams in football when here in Buffalo, he's done the same damn thing in Indy.

  4. Curious: tuck rule in relation to intentional grounding... If it's anticipated to be a spike in the pocket... It's not a fumble, shouldn't it atleast be intentional grounding?

Think of that as a screen pass... There are eligible receivers all around the QB, and he "throws an incomplete pass" at one of them, that just happens to be directly into the ground. If he were to drop back and throw it at his RB who is standing right next to him and miss, as long as it was a "forward pass" it would be an incomplete pass.

  5. I refuse to cheer against the bills... but if they lose, then I wont be incredibly disappointed because I know its probably going to be for the better next year. HOWEVER, I also feel that this team still has enough holes that the ~9th best player in this draft, being a position that we need, will still help out about the same as the ~3rd best.

This is assuming that we draft properly and get a player we need. When was the last time the Pats* had a top 5 pick that mattered to them.

  6. But (I see everyone has a short memory, but bear with me) What if we win?

Why I say this: Jets have clinched playoffs, and they cant win division. Sanchez is already slightly injured, so good chances he and some other starters could be resting. It will truly be a full garbage time game, so we have a good chance a-la Colts game last year.

  7. Didn't we keep Trent for more than a season...

Bledsoe and Losman (2002-2004 and 2006 respectively) have been the only QB's we've had start all 16 games in a season since Kelly's last season of 16 starts in 1993.

Enough of this "QB Competition" BS. Give us a starting quarterback for once.

  8. The switch to a D that is closer to a 4-3 than a 3-4 definitely seemed to help. Edwards at least seemed to see that and was willing to adapt his playbook to fit his players. If they get a few more people that can help out on the rushes and he keeps adapting to their strengths, then I say let him keep the job. He seems to be taking a lesson from Gailey and adapting his plays to his team rather than the other way around.

  9. Steelers LB James Harrison has been fined $25,000 for roughing the passer, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Harrison made “helmet contact” to the chest of Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was in a defenseless position at the time the contact was made.

    - OK that where I have a serious beef with this fine. The NFL admits it was a helmet to chest contact. Yet it wasnt spearing, because his head was up and his facemask went into his chest and not the top of the helmet.

How else is he supposed to hit someone? YEARS ago they stopped teaching players to lower their head, and hit the the top of the shoulder because of all the neck injuries (kevin evertte anyone? Or how about this http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-20020027-10391704.html ) When a player lowers their head, so that the spine is closer to level with the ground (and not perpendicular), they are at HUGE risk. They dont always make contact with the shoulder and ofter end up jamming players with the neck either head on or to the side. I myself partially tore nerves in my sholder and lost 30% of my strenth in my left arm playing in highschool by taking a hit on the side of my head because I didnt keep it up. It took at least 6 months to get back to 100%

Thats why nowadays it is taught at all levels of football to go "dobber to dobber" or "Power Z" or whatever you wanna call it. Head up, knees bent, bury your facemask in the guys numbers - taking the bulk of the force in the chest. Poz does a very good job at this if you ever notice how he tackles. IMO thats what Harrison did to Fitz, it was boarderline textbook. Maybe the top of his hat got Fitz chin, and Harrison being a small guy shoulda been lower, but what about taller defenders? Fitz isnt very tall, so he will inevitably get hit in the face more than taller guys. When a guy hits a QB with a safe (by safe i mean for the defender - they are at risk too), form tackle like that I dont think it should be penalized (I didnt think it was late or Fitz was "defenseless" - all QBs are defenseless when they are back there). That is only going to result in defenders getting neck injuries and paralized. Maybe they need to legalize "facemask hits" vrs "helmet" or "crown of the helemt hits" which remain illegal. Next week or next year I dont want to see Harrison paralized from the chest down because he flies into someone with his head down. Thats what they are moving towards with these rules.

Excellent post. However, I dont see how harrison was trying to hit with his head up. If you compare this hit with the one he had against the Browns which started this whole "leading with the helmet" fining spree, it is the exact same play only without a helmet to helmet. Its a dirty way to hit, and the NFL doesnt want it for either the defender breaking his neck or breaking something on the guy he's hitting. Harrison seems to have a tendency to put his head down and ram himself into someone if he gets the chance. He's not going to stop until he gets suspended.
