  1. there has been zero news off field with him.

    could he finally get it?

i see us giving him one last shot with chan gailey.

in an open cometition is fred really better?

    could be interesting

Fred won the role when their wasn't open competition.

He's outperformed Lynch every time he's been given a chance.

As far as Lynch being a "Beast" this is holdover sentiment from college. He gets stood up at the line a lot. A 3rd and 1 handoff up the middle to Lynch = 4th and 2.

  2. McMahon - Best D of all time, best RB of all time

Doug Williams - One of the best D's of its era, loaded at WR including an all time great in Monk, dominant RB's

Jeff Hostetler - One of the best D's of all time, dominant running game, should have lost anyway (thanks Norwood)

Mark Rypien - One of the most dominant offenses in the 90's loaded with weapons at WR and RB, dominant D

Trent Dilfer - One of the 2 best D's of all time, best TE in history, 2000 yard bruising RB

Brad Johnson - Pretty good QB on his own, good weapons on offense, one of the best D's of that time

Eli Manning - One of the best D's in the league, only team to get to Brady is why they won...in fact, the drive that won them the game the O line failed miserably, Eli made a miracle escape, throw, then catch or game was over.

So, lets be a little more realistic before we start annoiting these SB's to the O Lines of those teams...

McMahon - Didn't even have an oline. Just Ditka

Doug Williams - a couple of scrubs they picked up at the bingo hall blocking for him. The Hogs? sound like scrubs to me.

Jeff Hostetler - playing behind a wall of swiss cheese. Parcells knows dick about protection

Mark Rypien - cool under pressure. Always had someone breathing down his neck. Made up for the sorry hogs.

Trent Dilfer - No line at all. Had someone on him before he even took the snap.

Brad Johnson - Ditto Trent Dilfer

Eli Manning - Never had a chance.

All these guys had teams w/ strong running games but no one blocking for the running backs.

And NE losing b/c the D got to Brady has less than nothing to do with pass protection.

And let's not forget those Dallas teams that beat Buffalo in the SB. Their line looked like a bunch of JV high school rejects. Aikman and Emmit didn't need any f*cking linemen.

    It's all about the QB.

  3. In order to be placed on the practice squad, you have to be released and clear waivers. Nobody claimed him.

While on the practice squad, you can be signed by any team. No team signed him for ten weeks until the Bills did.

So, it's a lot more than MacCarthy passing on him. Every team in the NFL in essence said they didn't want him on their roster.

Thank you. That is the most informed and informative post I've read on the subject. Much better than the "he got beat out by a 7th rounder" bit.

  4. ...atleast this would fix the D immediately.

I also believe that a solid D is more important than a solid O and will keep us in more games.

The D isn't exactly broken, needs some tweaking and a NT, but it kept us in a lot of games last yr. When your offensive specialty is 3 and out even a great defense would get run down.

I'm also a believer that we can get solid OT prospects in rounds 2-5.

This is probably true, and I hope we do get some prospects in those rounds, but we also need a LT to start. It's bad enough starting a rookie at the most important and most challenging position on your line, much less a late round prosect/project with upside. (see Demetrius Bell)

  5. He can't be any worse than what we've got . . . at least to add to the competition. He'd cost almost nothing to sign. If he really stunk it up, then just cut him. I'm saying that it costs virtually nothing to take a look.

    Based on what?

Without Randy Moss and a solid offensive line, Culpepper has been mediocre AT BEST everywhere he's played.

The only difference between Culpepper and the guys we have on the roster is there is ZERO chance that he's going to get any better.

  6. Why? the guy is gonna be a drew Brees clone for someone in this league if they develop him. I for one hope we take him.

For once, we agree. taking McCoy would add some talent and potential hope for the future without having to waste our top pick on a QB who would otherwise do little more than pad the stats of opposing defenses with noone to stop them from terrorizing the poor guy.

  7. No it will not! Again for insane on this board...the Vikings had a GREAT OL, GREAT Defensive front, Best RB in the game and barely made the playoffs with T Jack at QB. Add Farve and they are a couple stupid fumbles from possibly being superbowl champs!!!

I am so sick of this fix the OL bull ****. A guy like edwards will STILL SUCK behind the best OL in the NFL! A Great QB can make the line better with his reads of the defense and his ability to get rid of the ball and lead the damn team. Look at the last 4 LT's to play in the superbowl, they were NOBODIES!!!

!@#$ sakes people, watch the !@#$ing game, it is a QB driven league! Get the god damn QB in here THEN worry about the rest. Dallas did it in the 90's then within 3 years was a superbowl winner.

3 years after getting Kelly in here, we went to 4 straight superbowls.

it is ALL about the QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They still made the playoffs. Thanks for debunking your own "insane" (I'd say retarded) notion.

  8. The Cardinals last year made the SB with a QB most think will be a sure fire HOFer and a Bills castoff for a LT.

Both are a need for this team, but its more likely that you can get by with a decent LT and oline, if you have a great QB, then getting by with a mediocre QB and a great oline.

Agreed. Problem is we don't have a decent or even mediocre LT (or RT for that matter) and while a smart player and the only lineman who started the same position all of last yr, our C is lacking in the physical dept.

You can get by w/ a Bills castoff and HOF QB if and only if the rest of your line is at least competent.

If we had even a decent line, I'd say QB too, but when your line is swiss cheese, drafting a high profile QB is ridiculous. By the time you've built a team around him he's going to have so many mental scars he won't be worth a roster spot (see David Carr)

  9. let's just say for the sake of arguement we replaced Trent Edwards with a pro bowl level QB ( like Rivers, Rodgers, Romo or McNabb) ......not an ALL PRO level like (Manning, Brees or Brady)......how many more wins would we have had from last years team if that was the only difference and everything else stayed exactly the same (players, injuries, etc...) ??

Seeing as how Rivers and Romo have always had a strong line, who can say what they'd do with a second and a half to make a decision.

As far as McNabb goes, he's never done well when pressured in Philly, not sure why that would be different in Buffalo.

And as far as Rogers go, I know it's popular to pretent he dominated behind a 3rd rate Oline, but that's fantasy. He hung in there and lead the league in sacks by a mile. When the pressure got there, he went down, when he had time he made big plays. Once that line came together at mid season, that's when GB started to dominate.

  10. ROFLOL!!!! Are you kidding me? What did you see on the field that said probowl potential to you? The kid seems serviceable but isn't it a bit early to start saying probowl anything and Wood in the same sentence?

He played strong as a rookie at a position that requires a great deal of understanding and usually takes some time to acclimate to.
