You'd think it was obvious, but these lost broken souls who have turned to social justice to give purpose to their sad, miserable lives don't find it obvious. In fact, the assertion really pisses them off. Unlike black oppression in 21st century America, cognitive dissonance is real.

The people who need to read this the most are too broken to accept it. https://reason.com/2017/03/01/moral-outrage-is-self-serving/ Moral Outrage Is Self-Serving, Say Psychologists Perpetually raging about the world's injustices? You're probably overcompensating.

As someone who recently bought stock in IBM I support this.

If people were serious about the issue these are the conversations they'd be having. There are a lot of aspects of the criminal justice system that could be reformed that would go a lot further in addressing unjust outcomes for people of all races than focusing on police practices. Most of the greatest injustices happen in the courtroom where the cop has no official power. In some states prosecutors can stack charges in ways never intended and force a jury trial (juries can't suspend time) which often means risking extra years or decades in prison for the privilege of exercising your right to trial. On top of that, legislators have become increasingly fond of mandatory minimum sentencing, which is categorically abominable. I've seen an innocent man faced with the choice of pleading guilty and serving 2.5 years or go to trial where if convicted he would serve a mandatory life sentence. The only involvement the cops had was investigating and picking him up after the prosecutor issued the indictment. Teaching the public how to handle a police encounter would probably save more lives than additional police training, but no one wants to talk about that either. It's extremely rare for a cop to kill someone out of any motive other than fear. If you know how to handle the situation you significantly reduce the already low risk of becoming a statistic. Bit that's skating dangerously close to "victim blaming." There are police tactics I don't care for, particularly wrt seeking out arrests where it isn't necessary, but that doesn't get talked about either. That's more an issue of pressures placed on officers to make arrests than with [most of] the officers themselves. It's also fueled by budgetary concerns, so no politician will touch it. People aren't interested in putting forth the effort required to really understand the issues and come up with solutions. It's easier to rage about things they don't understand and feel good about themselves for it.

Pretty good analysis here by the Hodge Twins.

That's good, but it's obscene that he was charged in the first place. It was a crystal clear case self-defense regardless of whether the guy had a weapon.

Total strawman. I didn't say a damn thing about what blacks talk about. I'm talking about the BLM movement, which is the topic of this thread, and something I do know quite a bit about, so I'll drive in any lane I damn well please. This movement doesn't give a ***** about black on black crime or anything else that affects the lives, health, and well-being of the black community. In fact, it's considered "racist" to even bring it up. This movement is narrowly focused because it's not about you. I know you and most of the people supporting and participating in it think it is, but it's really not. This didn't happen organically. It's organized and it's been orchestrated by people who have a completely different set of goals from yours and who are exploiting your perceived grievances to achieve those goals. The same people who have been trying to stir up racial tensions for a good long while now. Think about it. This isn't doing anything to help black people. It's caused, and will cause, both directly and indirectly, more hardship, suffering, and death of black people than racist cops could ever dream of doing. It's completely counterproductive. Murder rates will skyrocket in the coming months (they already have in some areas), communities and livelihoods have been destroyed, and there's growing animosity between you and people that don't have any problem with you. It's certainly not going to improve policing. Everyone says they want better cops, but how does this achieve that end? Do you think making law enforcement the least desirable job in America is going to improve the applicant pool? And no offense, but I'm a little tired of being preached to by people who think they've got a monopoly on the truth, and that the rest of us should just shut up and accept the opinion we're told to have.

I don't want to answer for him, but actually I do, so I will. It comes off as a little disingenuous when you claim your primary goal is the preservation of black life, but you put nearly all your efforts into reducing one relatively small, but politically advantageous, cause of black deaths while giving nary a thought to things that cause more black deaths by orders of magnitude.

Your bias is showing. It was posted without comment. You didn't refute my argument, because I didn't make one. All you did was admit who and what you are. My takeaway from the video was that I certainly didn't see that coming. You were probably cursing them halfway through for using "excessive" force. When you see what can happen and how fast the tables can turn, it gives you a little more perspective on the real world, split second life & death choices these guys have to make. I shouldn't have to qualify that, but since we're living in a dumbed down culture that sees only binary choices I will: it doesn't mean you give every cop a pass. It does mean you should consider his situation before you get too high and mighty from the comfort of your keyboard.

That's true, but even if we can't fully avoid them we can avoid clicking on their ads.
