yup - for him, he gets all the money he would on the open market and looks like a good guy for us, we begrudgingly pay him more than we’d like but get to manage the cap and have the hope of upside
-
what day does this years salary guarantee? I bet it’s not yet without looking. which means he’s avoiding finding out his open market price based on his film. He didn’t drop $9m out of generosity and good spirit
-
how big of a drop are you anticipating from: tre white to Douglas - solid jump Morse to next center? Maybe a modest drop at the ol position requiring the least athleticism? a washed poyer to a modest vet safety? if he hits on a first round wr and even mid tier vets at 2-3 positions this team will be better week 1 next year than last year

I bet he was told you will be cut before your salary guarantees or we can sign a fair renegotiation based on your current value. knowing he’d be a severely damaged product in free agency - it’s a win win
-
he’s not in a particularly bad place today
-
renegotiating a lower salary would be great and seems to be the case. the thread title should be changed as that’s not what a traditional restructure indicates

I think that’s the story here and not one that anyone can be mad about. he has one of the toughest injuries to return from at his position and likely will never be the player that earned the major money. it’s no one’s fault. Just bad luck for a good guy that carved out a nice career. Hopefully he gets a few solid years contributing and hangs them up happy and on his terms instead of limping out of the league as a shell of his former self.

kromer is one of the absolute best in the business and started back with us… checks note… 2 years ago.
-
just as a pulse check - the coaches have some idea of McGovern and we haven’t even entered free agency or the draft
-
most teams flip all but 5 or so cornerstone guys every 3-4 years. Morse was a good player but not a cornerstone. You rotate as you find talent at or around the position. Three good guards for cheap created a viable shift
-
If he was performing, his finances wouldn’t be an issue

Once the trade goes, our money is locked

with his rights otherwise reverting to the open market they sure have opted to retain him…. For now at least

Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?

It’s crazy that so many still don’t realize the difference between having the best qb in the league vs the second best in your own division and that’s maybe 10-12 in the league. Matt Ryan isn’t a guy capable of being the leader of that success. the dolphins failures the last couple years weren’t the tyreek trade, for instance im not pounding the table to make the move but if it’s netting a truly elite player im not complaining about it either Sounds irresponsible not to try your best to win one when you put it like that -

just absolutely wild he couldn’t at least get a package of plays for the guy

Anyone like me wanting Beane to hurry up? (Cap)

to be fair, waiting as long as possible is advantageous the last thing you want is to restructure a guy and something catastrophic happens (whether workout or jet ski or legal) -

or is it Julio Jones vibes? -
I think everyone drastically overstated the commitment if it were guaranteed - it’d be on paper and not just a handshake. It’s the best courtesy they can afford him in the situation. Holding him til final cuts is much worse when you know he won’t play on that contract Do right is releasing him should he can find market value and a good fit- maybe even here
-
his salary this year slotted up as a top ten workhorse back let him see what his market is. Probably a 1.5m Kind of deal and he can pick his best fit to hopefully put up decent tape and earn a year or two after could even be here

One of the wildest things on this board is that after the transition from 20 years to having Josh we still hear about talented rosters knowing the initial qb room was the likes of jameis, dalton, and taysom then after they made the situation even worse trying to prove they wouldn’t fall off after the transition they doubled down yet again not because of an elite roster but because the division was so incredibly weak that maybe they could sneak into the playoffs to save their jobs. and then they didn’t even do that and most of them still kept their jobs. it’s an embarrassment that ownership has allowed this to happen but after Tom passed I’m not sure anyone’s in charge of making uncomfortable decisions
