  1. Take race out completely whats the upside of using the phrase? Its not simplifying a more complex concept Its not an economy of words Its just a way to sound cutesy while putting down someone lower on the ladder than you. Im not running to HR about it, and Im not losing sleep.... but Id venture that the type of manager that leans on phrases like this probably isnt hitting it out of the ballpark in making employees feel valued.
  2. I think hes been the older out of date guy more than the intentionally mean guy. He made headlines last year for saying he was more concerned about the knee jerk reactions to concussions than concussions themselves, for instance. Its probably getting to be time for him to not have a mic in front of him
  3. While I completely agree- its still a stupid phrase to use to describe your employees. Even if its only slightly demeaning to any reasonable person, whats the upside?
  4. Its a stupid phrase to use about employees of any race
  5. If he didnt, sure. But do we jump to defend every far fetched after the fact explanation as probably true? No. Unless he can explain what he meant and it makes sense in the wider context, simply saying he wasnt talking about players wont hold much water- right? And of course we cant banish phrases from our language but you and I can say jeeeze before this discussion I used to say that without much thought but after actually pausing for a second its not really the kind of thing I want to keep saying. And we dont have to go burn down the other posters house for typing it either. All kinds of totally reasonable human interaction can come from this, if we decide to be reasonable human beings that can discuss things and effect change in ourselves and those around us. A lot of us, myself included, rattle off old phrases that sound charming and kitschy but are actually kind of gross when held up for examination. I tend to appreciate when someone points out something like that. Cause most of us dont want to be that guy
  6. So heads up - contract ignored- just play inthe field: Week 17, big third down coming up and we stop them we make the playoffs... your walking Cedric out there over dareus if both are on your bench?
  7. When dareus is getting X cap hit regardless- its a reasonable discussion. The truer way to frame it would be dareus actually only costing the cap savings. ie cedric at his contract or dareus at a likewise low dollar deal... but like Bobby I find most posters more quickly grab the idea of the roster spot taking up a certain cap hit regardless so who would you rather have.
  8. Now was it some light ribbing or a super serious commentary? This clearly has you upset without it effecting the actual game, so if players sit I was teasing youd be super upset. And of course you wouldnt watch. Itd be 6 hours of Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan debating race relations if players boycotted the game unexpectedly.
  9. You didnt ask it very well. At his contract and time away from the game? Probably not a move Id pursue....
  10. Probably Kyle or Hughes? Is it good they will see more attention?
  11. So it seems we are actually moving towards i think they should actually effect the game Like, say pegs says something dumb down the stretch, youd prefer the team sitting all afternoon not just putting up a fist or kneeling pre game? So, maybe its not bad to have real public discussions about some of those phrases that have carried on and we say without thinking? Cause honestly, whats the positive in us still having the natives are getting restless as a turn of phrase we use?
  12. He was much beloved. Then the contract dispute. He argued the tag should be the WR tag. Saints played hard ball. He was VERY upset. They signed a long term deal and he carried enough resentment that they very quickly traded him - creating a big time cap hit since he was only a year removed from the signing bonus. It was a dramatic year or so. Between him and galette, they gave out two big time deals that they shipped out almost immediately, creating massive dead cap. When looking at their last few years THAT is why theyve struggled, not the brees deal
  13. Well, shoot- look at all these suckers picking guys in the sixth and missing the otherwise immense value of using it to trade up. Honestly, our best hope is finding a malcontent thats underperforming their contract that wants a change of scenery if you are arguing that we can get an impact player with it. Essentially do what Jacksonville just did.
  14. Boatdrinks would probably have the type of meltdown that would end with the police at his home
  15. Remember- Ill again say I enjoy jimmy and think the process is overrated- but this is the guy the saints took a massive hit to deal because he was such a locker room malcontent. He hasnt produced at the all pro level in years. And hes paid a lot. Many are shocked and thrilled to get a sixth for dareus for some of those reasons - to then give up a premium talent in Glenn for graham here would seem less than ideal. There would have to be a lot more in this trade for the bills.
  16. It could be- im a graham fan and Ill say even in the WR room he might be the worst blocker though. Its not effecting the actual game at all.
  17. As we see more comments about acceptable vs unacceptable protests Id be curious where some draw the line. What showings would be ok, and what would be too far? My anecdotal impression is that a lot of the most vocal on this would like to see them simply quit the league and not be heard from again as the most acceptable showing. Cant be something that gets attention during the game, before the game, on tv shows about the league, etc... I agree that if theres other context its important to hear it. But the analogy is hand meet glove for what an owner would say about a player. I am really strugggling to find even a slightly reasonable way to apply it to goodell. Are the owners the prisoners allowing whatever they want and Goodell needs to be their warden?
  18. It doesnt particularly make sense to me on the surface. Has he better described that possible context elsewhere? Its very easy to understand if pointed towards the players, but towards the league office it seems to be going over my head
  19. So you are tired of seeing people discuss it but simultaneously the most active member of a discussion about it?
  20. Oh, with that info we are really changing the equation
  21. Probably wouldve said the same about getting back a corner in the last year of his deal, or a wr in the last year Graham has taken some serious hits. Ill also keep echoing that Id rather stretch the field with Taylor than give away our LT and continue to gear towards quick throws over the middle. But who knows
  22. Its the fatigue factor that comes with the social media age. Paired with movements being much more bottom up than top down and it makes for some interesting dynamics to watch play out as everyone figures out the effective way to do all this in a very different era.
  23. Is your concern, at least in part, that they think you are racist? Because I view this as more than a few jocks thinking that less than all whites are racist and Ill tell you- it really makes my Sunday afternoon far less stressful
  24. Though I think this a gag based on the thread last week... Ill suggest you bookmark you 3 favorite sports news sites and be happy
