Still frame seems obvious but what’s the jerky movement his foot makes when it hits out of bounds? I’m guessing that’s what made the call (agree or disagree - I’m just speculating on the process)

I don’t doubt that in part it’s the idea of Jordan rules where the stars get benefit of the doubt. But its likewise in part this psychological issue: name the 5 worst calls against the bills. now name the 5 worst that we benefited from. You can ask the same of any teams fans. You’ll get a list of 38 times they were screwed and struggle to get any times they got a break.

And where we diverge is that I don’t think the catch rules are THAT over complicated. I don’t think they are perfect but all of them will have those edge calls. You’ll never nail a paragraph or 6 bullet points that govern all the ways a player and ball can come together. Ironically the same fans screaming that the refs need more leeway to call a catch are often the ones that also think the refs are fixing games. That you either need — two feet and a football move OR two feet and control through your fall — isn’t all that complex or complicated of a rule.

To be fair, a large portion of those outrageous calls are actually following the rules the issue is everyone is so fast to be infuriated by the worst call they’ve ever seen and neglect that a portion of that is their own mistake and a good portion is that refs are human — what’s left over for conspiracy after all that isn’t much.

To be fair it also corresponds to the explosion of 24 hour coverage, huge message boards, adding more (and hd) cameras, and an explosion in the number of fans. if you logged of this site, would your perception of fans complaining change drastically too? I know mine would if I just talked to a handful of locals in person occasionally as opposed to all the coverage I seek out

Don’t think that’s true— Sunday night football vs the browns-bengals at 1pm being shown only regional get different coverage. The nfl mandates a minimum standard but premium games get more cameras, better operators etc.... im not sure it upsets me but there have been times I’ve thought “this one might play out different if the networks thought the ratings were going to be better” when they have gone to replay

Clearly I understand that. I’ll stand by what I said- reading the responses (things like worst call I’ve ever seen) I thought it would be worse. I see how a guy that professionally reviews plays could think he has it there. I am not sure i call it clear and irrefutable but after watching I lean towards saying the foot was up. without the on the field call - which way would you call it? If the standard was just what you think you see in the replay (again, obviously not the standard at that point but if discussing whether it’s the most heinous call ever, I think the discussion reframes)

Its a tough one, but having not seen the play til just now — it’s not as bad as what I read before. its hard to tell if his foot is touching in the still frames but it seems clear it hits the ground out of bounds (which means it wasn’t touching before, unless the softest graze possible and the slightly coming up before going down again) it probably shouldn’t be overturned but i don’t think calling it either way would be egregious. I do think that on some plays refs make the call that will obviously be reviewed when they aren’t 100% and then use a lower standard to overturn. I know that’s not proper but i do get the feeling that when in doubt there are guys that call the score or turnover and use the replay to simply make a call instead of indisputably overturning

I agree- but likely part of why you and I would never sniff the head coach job in the first place. Clearly he has some tolerance for the lifestyle and if he was going to jump there are a few spots this year that are as good as any he will ever see. odds are he stays put though

To be fair, at this point in his career he’s likely walking around with 3 different injuries that SHOULD have him sitting any given week. The term “healthy” for a vet is pretty fluid and I’d think it’s a lot harder to prove a guy is 100% than a guy has some sort of nagging injury or risk. it opens an interesting discussion though

Because he is the best option today a few things on this thread: 1) we aren’t giving cousins top flight qb pay AND taking a qb day 1 2) it’s clear that barring something major (ala Flacco’s crazy super bowl run) this regime doesn’t think Tyrod is the guy 3) it’s totally possible Tyrod is still the best option to pair with a rookie by the time you weigh out dead money, guarantees for a new guy etc....

Go out, play hard, hit the guy in front of you harder than he hits you. Don’t be dumb and take 15 yards for a slap fight but don’t shy away from being the team that’s imposing its will. If you can do that most of the game, odds are you’ve hit gronk plenty hard along the way.

Or if savage genuinely slipped through but Wilson was never even tested despite being put in the protocol then maybe the follow up should be different what tests were each given and howd thet perform? As a fan we don’t know much of the behind the scenes.

First you have to ID what each did wrong. You can follow the system and mess up. You can’t skirt the system intentionally.
