  1. I always laugh when I see the shots at Bledsoe.

The guy had an outstanding career and put up a ton of yards, TDs and wins.

No, he was not mobile and his tenure here was at the end of his career so it was less than stellar. But if we could get Mallett and he could have a career anywhere close to Bledsoe, I am all for it.

I guess that's what happens when your either a teenager or don't watch a lot of football outside of buffalo. He had a long and very productive career that i feel like a lot of people missed. how many yards? How many probowls? How many wins? Playoff wins? Oh yea that superbowl thing too - he got a team there right? 34 is way to high for that kind of qb....

  2. He could be the LB/AHC, and the de facto DC, allowing Edwards to save face. Kind of like how the Jets did it with Belichick when he was just their secondary coach, but everyone knew he was running the defense.

Even if he's not in charge, he could be a much needed voice of reason and mentor for some of the younger coaches. A confidant for chan. A connection to players and other coaches around the league. Maybe Edwards would be great with some guiding and DW could be that type of influence within the organization. Just because he's not the DC and calling plays doesn't mean he couldn't have a huge role on the coaching staff. We lack NFL experience and like it or not, it can hurt not having that guy in D meetings for extra advice even if he doesn't have final say.

  3. Please. Everyone here knows it's the right move. But we also know the Bills are either too gutless or too incompetent to position themselves for Luck in 2012, so we pretend like the plan is ridiculous.

Beyond the common sense issue of tanking and pillaging the roster for someone who might come out, and might be good......

You can't trade a player until the new CBA is reached. You also cannot trade for a 2012 draft pick until it is reached. All you can do is trade pick for pick in 2011 right now.

Sorry to shatter your dreams and bring you back down with us gutless incompetent people living in the real world.

  4. I am a little lost myself. I can't see him taking anything less than DC, but the way the article goes, he is here because there is an opening for a LB coach, which doesn't make sense.

they are saying they aren't sure what his role would be. My guess is they are considering a change at DC, but don't want to dump Edwards without someone to replace him. But I don't know. I think it is looking more like they are going to try to talk him into a smaller job he doesn't want, and he ends up somewhere else.

It could be a mike singletary/Joe vitt style LB/asst hc position

  5. My girlfriend is a post partum nurse, a few months back she had two very obese new parents. One of the other nurses asked how they were able to procreate without artificial assistance. They said the guys parents would hold up the rolls while they had sex. The two of them were both close to 500 lbs.

there are so many issues with that. can you imagine sharing the room with a parent during sex, yet alone have them be an active participant? can you imagine being the parent? ::shudder::

Good stuff. I agree with the Mallet/Bledsoe comparisons and I continue to believe that the days of the statue-esque, seven-step drop pocket passers are over. And it certainly isn't the offense that Chan is trying to run. Gabbert, on the other hand, intrigues me...

everything is cycles.... its over until we get some hs and college coaches that see a huge arm and pocket passing as the new trend instead of the spread option.

  7. He is the perfect LB for us, a senior who has produced multiple years. The only problem is he is 6'3 240lbs. He plays OLB standing up, puts his hand down, drops in coverage...he is not Maybin other than his frame.

He is rated around 10th overall, but fits us perfectly. IMO he is better than Robert Quinn.

    weight screams inside backer

  8. Regardless of what the new CBA decides, I doubt there will be an 18 game schedule in 2011. Earliest would likely be 2012 starting,

id imagine even later then that -- superbowl dates are contracted pretty far out, unless they plan on starting the season mid august-- adding the 2 games i think also adds a bye week. does the season now start the second week of august? i think they split it and run a little early and a little late but there are probably lots of things im not thinking of (bowl season etc....)

  9. Asomugha wants to play for a contender and as of right now Dallas doesn't fit that bill especially in the division that they play, at best they are the 3rd best team in the NFC East. Speaking of the NFC East, there's murmurs that the Eagles have Asomugha at the top of their priority list. Philadelphia not only has the need for a top CB to pair with Asante Samuel but they also have the money to spend on a top level recruit.

Although Peterson is a better return man, Amukamara is a better pure cover guy.

Here's an idea to chew on. Dallas' TE Martellus Bennett is rumored to be on the trade block. Jones loves Bennett's talent but realizes that he's being wasting sitting behind Jason Witten. If Buffalo were to trade down then I would love to see them get the Cowboy's 1st and 2nd rd picks packaged with Bennett. Who knows, maybe we could get them to throw in their 2012's 5th rd pick also, that of course if they wanted to trade up for "The Prince".

again a reminder -- until a cba is reached, no player trades, no future draft picks

  10. A serious question for you all. Even before this came up when Chan mentioned running multiple schemes I wondered whether that's a viable prospect long term or whether it was simply a way of transitioning from the 4-3 to the 3-4. So I guess my question for you guys is, is it possible to run both 3-4 and 4-3 on a permanent basis with positive results seeing as some people are 3-4 guys and some are 4-3 guys? Would this mean most of the roster would be taken up by front 7 players so we have the different ones to run the schemes that suit them best? I hope I have explained myself clear enough, apologies if not.

Three teams with hybrids that come to mind are new Orleans, NE, and Baltimore

  11. it's not a comparison of moss to keyshawn, but rather that AJ is a hybrid of both...the speed of Moss, with Keyshawn's ability to go over the middle

i would definitely want defense at #3 (dareus/bowers/fairley...heck, maybe even Quinn)...i'm just curious as to how people would welcome the possibility (and probably a decent one at that) of the bills taking AJ at 3. he's an amazing talent without a doubt.

Evans would probably be traded for a 5th rounder somewhere.

Evans can't be traded until a CBA is signed

  12. You are right it is not a left vs. right problem... It is a RIGHT AND LEFT problem together. In this case, the right really needs to turn down its anti-government rhetoric. I am not given the left a free-pass... But anti-govt was a cornerstone of this nuts beliefs. There is plenty that the left does to make situations worse as noted by some of the perps ancillary beliefs. I firmly believe in this situation, the anti-gov't sentiment was the "tipping point" to violence. Disagree if you want to... But the anti-govt people tend to use some irresponsible means (tipping toward violence) while many (as with many states that enable the sentiment) create the ability to act out on the anti-gov't sentiment.

Good. They need to be called out... Not necessarily for this case. What is wrong with that? They should use this case (and others that pertain to the left) to call out people doing harm. Palin and Beck are both doing harm.

Why should he call out both sides... It doesn't pertain to the left right now. The anti-government rhetoric is at the crux of this specific case. Now when class warfare that leads to violence... Sure the lfet can be called out.

because a major part of the issue is the staunch us vs them attitude of the left vs the right. if you go far enough left or right on the spectrum you will be fundamentally anti government, because a moderate government will fail you no matter what. that is in large part why political spectrums often are illustrated on a horseshoe type of diagram. the ends start to resemble each other more and more. this guy seems to have been in the confused, and living in an angry space between the two ends.

if the sherriff made this about everyone coming together to make a change, i would support it. instead he made it about finding someone to blame and pointing fingers. at this point i dont care who hurled the first stone, or which came first the chicken or the egg, or even which had the latest offense..... we are stuck in a terrible cycle and running to say its the other guys fault is only perpetuating that cycle. it seems so much more then the culture of the left or the culture of the right -- it is the culture of america right now that is the issue. when republicans were in charge, it was bush is hitler, and a terrorist, and now its that obama is a communist and has a target on his back. both sides play the games, both sides need to stop, and fundamentally this guy fit neither side but was likely effected by the hatespeak coming from each over the last decade. neither side is going to say "oh its my fault, now that you mention it. let me quit and everything will be better." it will take both sides acknowledging that they have had a hand in it and cleaning it up together. we must look within on these issues. i know it sounds cheesy and cliche but it will need to start with people realizing there own role in propagating this cycle, from the whitehouse, to our own houses. reading this section of the board the last few days/weeks there is so much anger, and i just dont understand what its fixing for anyone.

  13. this is something i started another thread on -- player movement, trades and the cba -- how do we trade for a first next year if the cba hasnt been signed and there is no promise of a 2012 draft. beyond that we dont know about changes in rookie wages, contract length, or even if there is a long lockout but they have a draft.... how the picks would be ordered.

i would be surprised if without a new cba you see next years picks being traded. beyond that i am not sure if it would be a legal trade that would be approved by the league.

as far as trade proposals it looks like it will likely be pick for pick, and those picks coming in only this year.

ps. that makes trading back from 3 extremely difficult, unless someone is willing to give there whole draft away there is probably only value in teams 4 through 6 or 7 being able to trade firsts and give us a second or second and third. any further and you are wiping out the entire years draft for one player and that would only be to get back to probably 10ish.

  14. Yup. It seems unthinkable that there wouldn't be a draft, but plenty of sports leagues don't have drafts. It's just one part of the CBA. The NFL makes a ton of money off their draft, so it's pretty much a mortal lock that it comes back in some form, but beyond that, it's hard to say much. If the lockout lasts over 13-14 months, we probably won't have a 2012 draft at all.

Another interesting tidbit that pertains to draft order is that Andrew Luck, assuming he graduates, may be eligible for the supplemental draft. Regardless of what order is decided on for the regular draft (assuming there is one in 2012), the supplemental draft order is always chosen randomly. So the dude may have some control over where he goes, at least in the sense of having multiple options.

there will certainly be a draft at some point in the future but what it is may have serious changes, especially in 2012. I expect the only long term difference to be a trade of a rookie wage scale, for a reduction of contracts by a year -- that way if a player outperforms there slotting they will be able to see the veteran contract sooner. however if we dont even play a season in 2011--- who knows what the structure would be. player movement will be locked up until the cba is signed though, so if you want to trade, pull out your draft value chart and do some math because that looks like the only way its happening.

  15. Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if it's possible to trade 2012 picks at this point? Given that there's not yet any provision for a 2012 draft, I would guess no.

i havent specifically heard, but if i had to extrapolate i would say probably not. it would be especially tough when you dont know the provisions for the draft in 2012, should there be a lockout next season. will trading for a teams first rounder next year be early or late? ie can you predict based on the quality of the team as you normally can -- will there be a lottery -- will it be the same order as this year? the nhl did a lottery then snake if i remember correct. also, who knows if there will be a draft at all if there is a lockout. heck, even with a new cba in place there could be provisions about the draft such as a wage scale, limit on the length of rookie deals or something we havent even thought of that changes value -- truly would be trading for an unknown...

  16. Trading players for draft choices is fairly rare, unless the player has many years left on their contract at relatively low dollars.

Yup - but we have how many hair brained schemes to trade Evans for picks, or McGee or trade for someone with our picks. It's very unlikely to begin with but may be impossible and throw a huge wrench in the redskins dealing mcnabb or haynesworth - just as an example of two players otherwise on the block.

  17. When he lowered his shoulder on a first down run he hurt his back and you could tell it affected him the rest of the game. He didn't run as hard, showed body language that it was hurting, and on one play he went down early on a designed run because he did not want to be hit. I don't think his coach even realized because he kept calling his number even though he wasn't fit to go, be it physically or mentally because of the pain, and it almost ended up costing them the game when Matthews forced the fumble on Newton. I don't know how bad it really was but I am certain he was in pain.

Coach doesn't strike me as worrying about the future as much as win today at all costs. Auburn has been reckless in game strategy, recruiting etc.... May haunt them long term. Even if he knew cam was hurt I think he'd call his number- he's done with him tonight whether or not he can walk off the field!

Sorry, I like a lot of the auburn players, love the brand of football but don't much like the staff from what i know.

  18. Is it enough to degrade the talent level he has because of that?

If he gave up 3 - 15 yard runs for first downs cause he decided to just totally take a play off it would.... What's the difference? 45 yards is ok by you? Its a big hole for him to dig out of. If you believe you can clean it up and it's systematic (which could be very true) then take him. If you think he's a headcase with uncontrollable anger and no football smarts it could be an issue. I tend to lean towards poor coaching but as a potential top 5 pick with that being his biggest red flag it is worrisome he couldn't keep his cool in such an important spot tonight. It was a close game, second half, for the championship and to hand yardage AND snaps to the ducks offense? Shows very bad judgement even if the coaches don't hate it happening. If forced to vote yes or no today - yes he is my 3 but that doesn't mean he's immune to criticism.

  19. Just a reminder - pending the new CBA, free agency may not start until AFTER the draft, and in that case player trades will also be off limits during and leading up to the draft. That includes player for player, or player for pick. When making suggestions, like trading Evans or for kolb or any other scheme please keep in mind this is a real possibility.

This will lead to us being able to go BPA in the draft and FA for the remaining holes. Likely a huge market to go after with draftees eating up some of the starting spots. Could be interesting.
