If I had to guess, he is just not the first option most of the time. Sort of getting the scraps in this “everybody eats” offense.

I do think he has the potential to have a Kelce-like impact if he were the main target out there.

im sorry but if he has kelce like potential he should be eating more

So he can win a ring as a Coach? The whole thing was about possibly getting him a ring as a player after all he did for us.

It's not like he's on the 53. What would we be doing with the extra Practice Squad spot? Have another Tyreek Maddox-Williams, Anthony Brown, TeCory Couch, or Daequan Hardy level player who, like them and Hyde - also won't see the field?

you do realize the owners buy the rings and can give them to the lunch ladies if they want, right? It’s not the nfl mandating who qualifies.

I thought that was a pretty poor call and could easily have been called on Coleman. But it’s the NFL MO these days to punish pass defenders, so I’ll gladly take it.

yea, I chalked that as pay back for a few earlier calls (against Dawkins, and no call on ed o getting hauled down)

  4. Honestly- if questioning coaching…

how did the ravens motion Henry out of the backfield on the first two pointer after waltzing down the field 10-15 yards at a time? If nothing else make else sell out on the run

I imagine if they ran Henry both 2 pointers it would’ve been a more interesting game

but coaches do dumb stuff. See Jameson Williams at qb for the lions and no one calling TO for 12 men on the field for them. Two premiere coordinators. It’s why you kick and make the other team execute.

Or he can’t get open… he had 24 catches in Cleveland and only 20 here, he’s not an impact player anymore.  I don’t know why it’s hard for people to see/admit.   I’ll admit, I wanted D-hop instead and he’s been nothing special either.  Diggs fell off a cliff at 30, yet nobody wants to believe that could be it w Cooper.  He’s been here over half a season and his competition for snaps is Mack Hollins and a raw rookie, neither of which are doing anything to stop a real WR from taking their job.. he’s just not doing it.

the worry is we’ve seen other guys come in mid season and get zero packages. Hines for instance.

I know a different coordinator but it’s a little curious that we aren’t designing anything for a guy again and he’s getting very limited snaps.

this is me speculating, but it looked like Josh checked into that run on third and goal. It looked like it could have been a fade to Coleman that he checked out of (a play I wouldn’t have loved either).

but even early in drives in the 3rd quarter?

Did he have zero carries and maybe 10 air yards passing in the first 20 minutes after halftime? I’m sure I’m forgetting some plays but generally…. We can’t say Josh is the mvp because he doesn’t have the talent around him and then make the choice to contain him in the backfield and put all the pressure on the other guys to make a play.

I’ll buy that in September to preserve health but in January he’s got to be bigger in putting the nail in the coffin instead of bleeding clock with other guys taking the hits for him

    Agree completely.

And if they had scored a TD instead of a FG on that last drive, then there wojos

be no debate about how brilliant it was.

i have to commend Brady for sticking with the run. It was like running into a brick wall. But they were out there to bleed clock and not put the ball in harm’s Way.

maybe spread the ravens out a bit and sneak Josh in there a bit though?

  8. I think you can be a lot more bold in the third quarter and have the same time consumption (maybe more)

we went a long time without a pass past maybe 2-3 yards down field or an Allen run.

im not saying you have to go run and shoot there but they don’t have the talent around Josh to completely pull him out of the game for most of the second half and if not for a huge fumble we may not have won a game we had a two score lead

feels like every week rapp hurts someone

could be an opponent- could be himself or a teammate

id be super curious how many games he’s missed time in for blowing up himself

What is remarkable is how much better he gets every year. In the last 3 years he has done amazing things to correct his flaws. It's amazing.

yea I haven’t seen enough of his games this year to comment confidently but the stat line was impressive and what I saw before tonight seemed like steps forward -

I wasn’t sure how much was change in his play vs having Henry, some receiver help, etc… but clearly to finish the year with that TD:Int ratio, he’s doing something right

Agree with OP.  They could have set up the interview on Mondays....when everyone gets a day off...Why couldn't it wait till then.

I kind of like the idea of the Monday after the conference championships even, with the bye week for the Super Bowl.

1 seeds in the first round bye, Super Bowl teams in that bye and the rest when eliminated.

I might be bouncing an idea for limiting active playoff coaches for this last week? Some of the teams interviewing 17-18 guys is just gratuitous. If limited to 1-2 guys actively coaching in this last week maybe there’s a better focus on real candidates and not just calling every playoff coordinator because you have nothing better to do

It was 100% the right call. If it only put them up 7 then it's different. But the calculation for me was kick go up 8 you give yourself 3 shots to win:

    1. Stop them scoring the TD

    2. Stop them scoring the 2pointer

    3. Even if they score both get the ball with about 90 seconds and 2 time outs to kick a winning FG.

AND even fail all those it’s 50-50 in overtime

roll in that 8 makes it basically impossible to lose in regulation and you have to do it

This.  A terrible spot.  Josh landed on the ball at the 1.  CBS didn’t even show a replay.  I rewound my tv feed.  No idea how the spotter in the sky didn’t move the ball up.  If we lost that game, that’s ’no goal’ level bad.  The difference between the 1 and 2 yard line is huge.

this I was curious about live

  13. I think Lamar is an elite nfl weapon

I think Lamar is a very good player at the qb position. Puts it together non traditionally but easily a top 5 guy.

I hate how Lamar has become symbolic of a bit of an unspoken cultural battle. He’s such a fun player but near impossible to talk about his play because there’s so much more attached to the conversation for a lot of people on both sides ((note not just saying race here but also new school vs old school, etc… too))

Was the best and most important call of his career.

Everybody loves this unrelenting aggression on 4th down and McD shows a ton of it, arguably the second most after Dan Campbell. There’s also the common sense inclination that you let your best player win the game.

But the strategy of this game comes down to probability even when it’s boring.  Make your opponent be perfect.  You go up by 8 points, make them score the TD AND the 2 point conversion AND stop your final drive afterward.  Worst case scenario you take it to OT and accept your 50/50 odds there.

It’s like making a big fold at a poker tournament with your two pair on a board with straights and flushes possible.  Not fun, but right.

He made that decision with an entire city, many of whom hate him, watching over his shoulder.  Well done, coach.

the loss on third down made it a no brainer.

id be infinitely curious what spot on the field was his tipping point

It's really bothersome that there is no designed plays for Cooper in any game. He is by far our most experienced WR and we'll need him badly against the Chiefs.

it’s strange how few reps he’s getting.

Trying not to project past situations as we have Brady now but it’s weird how slow guys get worked in under McDermott so I’m not sure what to think

There are other guys higher on the depth chart. AFCC is not the time to have a guy play his first game of the year

we all love Hyde, but stop

If he can’t play he shouldn’t be on the roster… let him be a coach

No. You don’t play someone who hasn’t played a down all year in a championship game.

I don’t think you start Hyde but you are edging towards him being your last active guy in case of injury to bishop

Come on man. lol. Not a great throw but that was a drop.

of course but to gunners point, part of the reason was Andrews knew he absolutely had to get it in the end zone and the placement made it harder to coordinate the catch AND the score and he had to have both

It's actually not a good throw by Lamar. The reason he drops it is because it is behind him.and he is trying to come back for it while also make sure he falls backwards into the end zone not out at the 1.

Watch it back. That's a lot on the Quarterback.

    it definitely complicated the play
