  1. the difference here being the nfl scoring explosion correlated to rule changes, not simply a talented roster or new wrinkle. Unless you point towards rule changes favoring the defense or a long term shift in cap dollars effecting where athletes are trying to play - there isn’t much reason to think a noteworthy swing is in progress.
  2. 2 high safeties is anything but new though.
  3. points per game are UP year over year, but down slightly from the high water mark of 2020. Looks like this year is pretty average within the uptick that happened about 10 years ago im not sure it’s a reality to say it’s moving the opposite way yet
  4. a totally fair assessment overall - but would not point to the debacle on national tv as a successful game for him. Likewise wouldn’t say it’s a dealbreaker but it’s not one he’s going to be hanging on the fridge with a gold star
  5. The ultimate issue is the buck stops with him as head coach in these hypothetical next steps and if he can’t see the glaring problem with his offense in that game it would also be a strike against him as the leader of the unit. he is still the voice in Josh’s helmet and the guy managing Joe Brady
  6. some of y’all really hang on throw away sentences It’s just not a scrum sport. As you mention, the rules on these plays are tougher on the defense where even a slight surge gets you progress forward while they can’t force you backwards from there. it’s also just not engaging television to have it every short yardage play
  7. I’m sorry but even if you like his play calls week 1 you can’t argue he managed the human element properly
  8. im not saying it’ll be stale and incredibly predictable but at some point it’ll emerge that against certain packages, or in certain situations he will lean on certain calls more often. I’m not saying suddenly the whole thing becomes predictable but you are watching games straight through not dialing up every 3rd and 8-12 that he’s called for 8 games to see if it’s 60-40 blitz or drop
  9. a lot is regurgitated opinions but also if you call the top 5-6 elite, he’s going to be on that list for most if not all for a reason It’s not like he’s 17th if suddenly being more objective Is this a talking head that thought Josh was trash like 5 minutes ago?
  10. I think you’ve got to define elite. hard to get too deep in any rankings without mentioning him near the top.
  11. likely true. that said, Frazier had great games and months too. It’ll be interesting to see McD settle on long term as he puts tendencies back on tape. my suspicion is very good still but maybe some more ups and downs like any coordinator has
  12. Minor consideration that diggs is years deeper on his career with much more history of it
  13. Perhaps a wild swing in the opposite direction and the truth remains he’s been inconsistent
  14. at worst he’s a distraction that does boneheaded things at bad times. I’m normally all about high upside guys with some red flags but his issues have shown up onfield and that worries me.
  15. meh. You can pretty well diagnose on field. I’d understand waiting to announce but he’d know before he’s even on the cart
  16. achilles is a tough one for a guy to return from explosion lags for upwards of 2 years to get right. As a guy that makes his living on an island it’s not ideal. Far less plug and play than most nfl injuries.
  17. at 28 probably suits up again but not sure it’ll be here and on that contract . Major change in career trajectory
  18. next stop in breaking the stalemate: what do you think the average salary for that player should be, and do you think gabe should be a top 5 average salary in Buffalo? and I’m not a huge fan of just taking games/plays out but in weighting his production from the past and looking forward part of me always wants to lop about 50 yards off that one catch and still credit him with a long TD but like 48 instead of 98 to normalize it a little.
  19. more specifically I was saying no one twisted his arm or forced a coordinator on him. He picked the side and let him run it for years, with a little trade back and forth between the two. Whether or not he made the play call, he picked the defense
  20. well, McD made the call for the defense all those years.
  21. to continue on getting to the same page… 15 per game would put him 8th in carries by your definition bell cow means Henry, Jacobs and borderline chub also, 21 touches vs LV…
  22. 25 rushes per game would be 425 a year. A record, right?
  23. Terrible sequence by the lions. wont matter but incomplete, run out of bounds and a sack while running out the clock is criminal
  24. I think that’s not a terribly unfair comparison - good guy, well liked, hard worker, and has a spot in the league but not the guy for this roster or scheme. because he is a wr instead of running back the pay is also about 5-10x, which makes it even worse to sign on for a veteran contract. He’s a guy a team with a rookie qb can splurge on as part of a 3 WR platoon that costs too much for us
  25. And we may soon see Jordan Addison in Minnesota join those ranks the lions have invested in creating that dynamic. tampa has been that type of team Heck, if not for Russ, sutton/jeudy could be an interesting pair as having a high end WR2. It hasn’t worked out but it’s certainly the plan.
