Also nailed the farther one before the unsportsmanlike was called in that game. And I think that was around 50 as well, in horrid cold rainy weather to boot. Best walk/metro ride back from that stupid stadium that I have ever had.

I don't think that Fitz is the franchise QB, or our guy to get us to the promise land. That being said, this game (and his 11/4 TD/Pick ratio and 103 QB Rating) has me not opposed to looking later in the draft for a QB. I wouldn't be against spending 6 of our 8 picks on guys who are no less than 300 LB, and a Kellen Moore/Christian Ponder (I know I was making fun of FSU QB's earlier) type player. Fact of the matter is, we aren't one offseason away from a playoff 2011, but if we address the defense and allow Fitz to be a game manager, and throw up a few games like this week, we could have a competitive 2011 and have a promising QB learning the game/system for a year.

Can't fault him too much, because he had 3 TD's but Lee dropped a pass down the right sideline with not a single person in front of him for a 55 Yd TD that would have been another big one to have.

More than anything, the idea that we need a defensive leader (LB or D Line) to step up was cemented in my head when (this was my first B-More game live) I watched Ray Lewis come out of the tunnel. He just oozes leadership and motivation, and you saw it again when he was firing up the defense when they were down 24-10. We need a guy to lead this defense (Poz is a good starting linebacker if there is a Ray Lewis type LB next to him).

If Fitz keeps playing like this?
garbag3man replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we have the #1 and Fitz has a 106.3 rating (like he does now), I would trade back, and stock up the defense. We aren't a QB away right now, so we need the picks. This all of course depends on how everyone looks at Sr Bowl/Combine. -
What GM / Coach tandem would you look to hire?
garbag3man replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would hire and keep these guys to rebuild the team. -
Codero Howard to Start At Right Tackle...
garbag3man replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or if you have a lefty QB. I mentioned once before, knowing he is a JR, and small, (and that the fanbase wouldn't allow it), but I wouldn't mind seeing us, if he came out, drafting Kellen Moore and a stud RT. Moore can make all of the throws, he is a legit thrower. Needs to put some weight on, but wouldn't mind having him. Also, Boise is not another of those SW California schools that everyone thinks is our biggest problem with QBs. I think if we were to do that, Bell is a very good LT for a Lefty QB. -
Can we please have a moratorium on threads about Brian Orakpo/Haloti Ngata/Michael Oher/et al.? It happened, we missed on the draft picks, we have a new national scout, a new GM and a new assistant GM, we landed a promising NT (Troupe) who should be an anchor of our defense for years to come, a promising DE (Carrington), an OLB (Moats) who will help this defense for years, and a WR (Easley) who showed some amazing flashes before getting hurt, not to mention a franchise RB. We had a good draft, much better than everyone wants to admit, because we aren't in the playoffs yet. It wasn't an amazing draft, but it was solid, and everyone needs to stop harping on the previous drafts, its a different GM/AGM/National Scout/Coach.

Name One good player move Nix / Gailey have made?
garbag3man replied to BuffaloinLA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gee, it's almost like it takes players time to develop. It takes more than 5 games to know how a draft turns out. I am willing to put money down that Troupe will be the anchor of this defense for some time. Carrington and Moats will continue to develop and start getting more play time and we will have filled 3 holes on our defense in this draft. -

You mean like using 6 of our 9 picks on LB/OL/DL? Yeah I wouldn't call those glamour positions. Do people on this board think that there was only one round in this draft??? -

No, you forgot, they aren't playing right now, which means they were the worst draft picks in the history of football. -

Everyone needs to face it, Joique Bell is not ever going to be a great RB. He will be a very serviceable backup RB, maybe. he shined during pre-season against guys who aren't on football teams anymore. Philly grabbed him up because they needed a backup to Mike Bell. We have two very good RB. -

Drafting Spiller Drafting Troupe Trading Lynch Not Drafting QB in 2010 Draft Committing to rebuilding the franchise from the bottom up Signing Kyle Urbik Cutting Hardy Not Resigning Owens (great production from Stevie Johnson). -
I disagree with this. I am a dog-lover through and through. I have a 1 yr old Lab-Pit Mix and am disgusted that someone could do that to animals. That being said, the guy did serve his time. Are you saying that people who go to jail should never be able to work anywhere? He committed a horrible crime, and he was punished for it. He has seemingly turned a corner, and if he does something wrong again, throw the book at him, but he served his punishment, and deserves his second chance. That being said, I am tired of all of the same threads. Yes, this team isn't good right now, I don't think anyone questions that. Does no one here understand what rebuilding is. Everyone is tearing Nix/Gaily apart for their draft history (they have had one draft, in which the have seemingly hit on a few good players). They got Troupe who is showing some potential, a stud RB to build the team around, and a WR who showed some good flashes of potential before he got injured in camp. We could have gone out and traded picks to get Vick and signed Dansby and we would have a team that would win 7 games, give up a ton of points, and be no closer to having a future for this team. They are rebuilding the right way, everyone just has to realize that right now, that means we have to suck. You can't rebuild a team at 7-9 and 6-10 every year. If you look at the Falcons they had the 3rd pick in the draft and got Matt Ryan. The Dolphins had the 1st pick and got Jake Long. You need a top 5 pick to rebuild your team. So we are on our way there and everyone needs to settle down and understand that this is how you build for the future.

Not to make you feel worse but...

I am given hope by the fact that you are wrong about squandering picks. This FO's first draft we got an RB to build this team around, we got very promising defensive players to build out 3-4 around next year (Troupe,Carrington,Moats) and we got a very promising WR who happened to get hurt in Camp. I know everyone is panicking, but we had a draft that I think will be very promising over the next few years. They addressed our defense going forward, got us a WR, we got unlucky with the injury, and a future superstar RB. We get our evaluation out of the way right now, this year, hit on ILB, QB and OT next year and keep developing Troupe, Carrington, moats, and we become a competitive team. Throw in an extra WR and who knows. -
I don't agree with the Kelsay extension for that much money, though I think he has been a solid, while not good player for us through some very bad times. I am sure that he is a very good guy, and works his a** off, but I am still confused by how much they gave him. As to the Chan discussion/poop-throwing contest, everyone needs to understand that it has only been 4 weeks. That is all, 4 weeks. It was mentioned before, we have never fully seen a rebuilding process through. People mention the other teams that have turned it around quickly, but context is the key. The Dolphins had a good core of a team, they crapped the bed for a year and turned it around. The Falcons had a high pick in a year that there was a stud QB available, and turned it around. Our situation is different. There wasn't a QB who could turn it around, and there wasn't a OL worth spending the $$ on. So we get our high draft pick this year, hopefully one of the QB's shows that they can be the guy, and we are well on our way. We drafted a WR who showed some serious skill before getting hurt, we have the makings of young line that could be very solid for the next while, and we drafted some young 3-4 defenders who I think will prove to be fairly good.

Punch, by the way that quote in your Sig is probably the best Maddenism since John himself stopped doing games. I had to rewind twice to make sure I heard it right.

Blackouts for the rest of the season
garbag3man replied to Bruuuuce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Surprisingly, no one is forcing you to watch it. -
Well your opinion is wrong, because he is very well respected, as referenced by Punch above. And your fact is pretty skewed considering that he delayed the collapse of that Cowboys team for another two years, and he got fired from KC because Haley wanted to call his own offense, and had Gaily calling Haley's playbook. And yes that does sound like a Dr Seuss book.

I agree with almost everything you say. Let me preface this by saying that I like Chan, and I think that with this rebuild, he is still the right guy. That being said, while the DC is the problem right now, Edwards doesn't have the talent to stop the run, or get any pass rush. Also, at the end of the day, the buck has to stop with Chan, and he needs to take responsibility for Edwards' poor D. I think that people are being way too reactionary. We are doing what teams need to do, you can't rebuild a team in as much disarray as we were by going 7-9 every year. Honestly, we have played a very tough schedule, two of the games we were in right until the end. We have the makings of a good young offensive line with Bell finally coming along, and the makings of a good NT that we drafted last year. I think there will be growth as we go along this season (we won't be good, but we will get better), and with a good draft next year, we will be competitive.

Simmons' article on Vick
garbag3man replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with parts of what he said. I personally am not a fan of veal for the same reasons, however I do eat meat. However, I feel like the eating meat/fur is a false equivalency with brutally torturing dogs. The part I do agree with is that he deserves a second chance. The man served his time in jail. He has seemed to turn his life around, and seems to be honestly contrite about what he did. I love my 1 yr old Lab/Pit, and hated what he did, however he is outspoken against animal abuses, went to a team that has turned him around, and has surrounded himself with people who are much better influences around him. If he does it again, I was wrong, but he served his time and deserves the benefit of the doubt. -
I hate to ruin your draft plans

Just want to clarify things here, real quick. Did you just list Sam Bradford in with Manning and Elway? Kid can throw, but he isn't Elway/Manning. Least not yet. -

Will we see Brohm start this season?
garbag3man replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Must have been the game that the AC broke. I want Brohm to be good, and to turn out to be the guy who was projected to be a #1 pick his Jr Year. I don't hold out much hope, but I would like to see it happen. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to throw him to the wolves. Those people who say "we don't want him behind this team to get him hurt," he has the same chance next year. I say play this out with Fitz in until the season is mathematically eliminated, and then get Brohm his few reps. -

Just one clarification, the one game Brohm started/played was in Atlanta, in a dome.
