I very much agree with the OP on this. And while I agree that he faltered in the playoffs given our hope at the time to just finally become a playoff contender again I would have thought we would have been the perfect landing spot for him.
So this may not be a very popular opinion and I don't think he's going to win but if I could pick a sleeper it would be Pete Carroll. The way he has been able to keep Seattle winning and ahead in the wildcard race after all that they have lost particularly on defense as well as dealing with Baldwin missing some games to injury I thought they would actually regress this year. Gotta admit he has done a fantastic job with them this season.
Not a smart move at all imo. While I don’t think Flacco is great I always thought he was better than a lot of people gave him credit for. Aside from Boldin for a few years he never really had any WRs to throw to. I still think he gives them the best chance to win.
The obvious one was the loss to the Steelers in 04 but I’ll also add in a “write-in candidate”: I wasn’t sure if this would qualify as we weren’t in the playoff race but 12/4/05 @ Miami. We we up by 3 TDs and I believe we could have been up by more but we blew some chances on some turnovers near the goal line. The Dolphins come back in the 4th quarter and Sage Rosenfels beats us on a last second TD pass 24-23.
To make this loss even more painful, Colts lost and Titans are losing. Looks like we are getting the help we needed to get back in the race if we would have won.
After a bye week, coming off a bad performance in their last game, and the discussions around Brady’s arm being done, this seems like it has the makings of a day where Brady goes off and the Pats destroy the Jets.
I am skeptical of his decline given a few games from earlier this year. While I don’t think Miami is as good as their record suggests he did slice them up with ease earlier this year when they were unbeaten. Plus outdueling KC and winning at Chicago against a good Bears team.
But maybe it’s taken the rigors of a full season for his decline to start showing. If it is starting I would welcome it.
It was Thanksgiving weekend last year when we came off of 3 really bad performances heading into Kansas City where one more loss would have most likely done us in for the season. We pulled off an upset and turned the whole season around. Let’s do it again.
