All I am saying is even with a 1st round QB you may not win a Superbowl. Jim had a great offense, never had a great defense. Strange all that talent never had a top 5 defense with Kelly. Why, Walt Corey. You are exactly right TEAM is the word, that means great Coaches, position coaches too. Bills always lacked a good defensive coordinator under Levy and Kelly. Frank Reich played just as well as Kelly when Kelly went out. Team means drafting too, not just a QB. Without Reed, McKeller, Thomas, Fina, Jones, Talley, Conlan, etc.. we would not have won. Buffalo only once went for a player and gave too much up in those years. May have cost us a Superbowl win going for Bennett. We lost 3-4 1st picks getting him in 88'. How good would we have been keeping those picks and drafting by the time we reached the Super Bowls. Maybe we would have won. One player is just not worth it.

And your leaving out all the failures in the 1st round you want to call "franchise QB's". Remember Mirer, Leaf, Russell, Couch, Lienhart, Quinn. They were complete flops. That is why you don't waste 4-6 picks for 1 player, if your wrong you have destroyed your team for 3-4 years. Those that do that as GM's and HC's are gone 3-4 years in. Just ask Cleveland, they are trying again!
-
You don't go to 2nd pick over all with 12, PERIOD! Your acting like you have a top 10 pick, you don't. You also don't count well. We never gave up 5 1st rounders, we give up 4. Your giving up 12, 22, 1st 2019 and 1st 2020, then 2 2nds and 2 3rds. Think of it as a 3 way trade. Those are the assets we lose for Rosen. You all think 12, 22 2nd and 3rd get it done fro Rosen. If you don't want those players at those draft positions and want Rosen more, than why on earth would the Giants want those players over Rosen, Brakley or Chubb? They had their shots, they picked wrong Eagles just won the Superbowl, what are you trying to say?

Is Brees a franchise QB, Brady, Wilson? These guys were all picked 2-6 round. Favre was a 2 round pick, Rodgers 17th, Kelly 14th. Brad Johnson, Dilfer, Foles, Flacco all won SB's. Bledsoe, Luck, Ryan and a number other 1st pick over all have not, Allot more #2 picks have flopped. A franchise QB is defined by winning over a long period of time, nothing about draft status. More QB's have failed in the 1st round then any other position selected. Failure is out of the league before rookie contract done or expired. Allot more have failed then succeed. This guy has had concussions, 1 hit and he may never play again in a year, another hit out of the league.

Hmmm, did Kelly win a Superbowl, I do remember Brees doing it, Wilson, Brady, Big Ben a 11th pick, Rodgers at 17, Foles 3rd rounder, come on help me out. Oh by the way Kelly was a 14th pick with 3 QB's selected ahead of him, even Tony Hunter a TE the Bills drafted. Eli one of few that do it but he is no prize, not worth giving up all your picks. Not even seeing a Luck in this draft. I would take a Nick Foles and a Super Bowl win. I love Jim and that team, what we know, but they lost. Isn't winning the Superbowl what it is about. Or is it about the journey? Maybe the journey is earning the 1st pick, needing to suck for a few years and earning to draft a franchise QB. Bills fans want so bad they are willing to FORCE the plan forward. You do not win trading up to draft 1 player over 4-5 team players.
-
Ah come on Bills need a QB, your telling me the Giants with a old QB wouldn't draft a dime a dozen players over a franchise QB to help Eli win one more Superbowl. Giants owe us for a loss with our franchise QB losing to Jeff Hostetler. They owe us Bills fan this trade!!!! Click your high red ruby heels 3 times wish for youth.
-
That wouldn't even come close to getting it done. Giants don't win this year with those picks and if they are quitting on Eli then they need Allot more not to take Chubb or Barkley. You admit this is so important to get Rosen (your not getting Darnold), so my friend is a Giants fan and they are set to draft their player, the only thing that gets this done is a top 10 pick, another 2 - 1st picks and a 2nd and a 3rd this year. So for the Bills that means going to 6, Indy wants our 12 and 22nd or a 2nd and a 3rd. OK done 12, 53 and 96 gone. Now Giants want 6, 2019 1st and 2020 1st, our 56th pick and 65. OK done. Bills have Rosen and 4th pick on, no 1st rounder again till 2021. Rosen starts, has too, 2nd most polished QB to come out since Luck. Bills go 6-10 and give top 10 1st rounder to Giants who pick a Qb like Rosen the following year. Bills struggle for 4-5 years and now Rosen has had 3500 yard seasons number 2 pick over all and wants out of Buffalo, get franchised at $30/mil a year. Buffalo has to cut a few players they had to buy in free agency because they have not had many players come in from the draft. Haven't been over 8-8 in a 5-6 years. No playoffs since Taylor, fans are livid and McBeane and McDermott are fired. Bills hire Rex Ryan to save us again and he goes gets Jackson a 5-6 year backup of Miami's to start for Buffalo.
-
You just committed treason on this fan post page. There is no place not moving to 2, 4 or 6 and getting Darnold or Rosen on this page. Bills fans are OWED this and McBeane is a traitor if he doesn't pull this off. How dare YOU think anything else! Go read the ominus bill of 2400 pages, draft will seem quick by then.

My Buffalo Bills 2018 Mock Draft choices for us

I do this for fun but listen to allot of sports talk. Because of the odds of finding a real franchise QB the best shot if a consensus QB is there would be with the 1st pick of the draft. Unless your willing to give up all your picks this year and your top 3 next it will not happen. Your just as likely if you keep selecting QB's every year high enough to land one good enough over a 5 year period. Course if you can't evaluate properly your screwed, Bills of course have been falling in this area. I like Beane and can't wait to see what he will do. I also believe McCarron can be good enough, not a savior but win. He proved that in college. Fine but show us what you would do. Because you say Rudolph and Falk are mid round QB's don't make it true. Both have everything to win as a pocket QB with good stats in college to go with it. I believe no matter what, McCarron starts in 2018. I believe Bills will carry 3 QB's and the reason 4 are there is for competition, may the best man win! That is how you find the best players, not by moving up selecting high on one player and say, here's the keys. Maybe the only one worth that is Darnold and we are not getting him. -
My Buffalo Bills 2018 Mock Draft choices for us

This just in, Bills fans hate Smith and Rudolph so in the interest of making Bills fans happy. Bills change selection at 9th pick to Baker 22nd pick Bills take Rashaad Evans MLB. Bills with 34th pick take DJ Moore WR by trade with Giants for Lawson, 3rd pick (96) and 2019 4th round and don't trade for Browns 35th pick and keep 1st next year. Trade (done on draft day) - 47th pick: Bills select Billy Price G/C by trade with Cardinals for 53rd pick, 5th round pick (166) and 2019 5th round pick 56th pick: Bills select Luke Falk QB 121st pick Bills select Dante Pettis WR. All is Better in Bills Country because Bills fan got their franchise QB in Top 10 and it wasn't named Jackson, Rudolph or Allen. -

https://buffalofootballbeat.com/2018/03/22/buffalo-bills-mock-watch-5-0-everyones-feelin-a-qb-now/ Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report No. 12: LB Roquan Smith, Georgia Without a viable quarterback prospect on the board, head coach Sean McDermott can land his version of Luke Kuechly to quarterback the Bills defense. Comparing Roquan Smith to Kuechly may be unfair even though their games are quite similar. Kuechly came out of Boston College as a highly instinctive sideline-to-sideline defender who struggled to take on and shed blockers. Smith is nearly identical to that description with the kind of range that’s rare among even the best linebackers. He is actually a step faster than Kuechly, with a 4.51-second 40-yard dash time, though Smith weighed in at 236 pounds to Kuechly’s 242. Buffalo’s offseason points toward McDermott trying to build the Bills defense in the same manner as the one he led as the Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator. Star Lotulelei’s signing was one example. Pairing him with Kyle Williams along the interior will provide Smith plenty of room to run at middle linebacker. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith led all FBS defenders through the regular season with 70 tackles and 37 run stops without a missed tackle. The Butkus Award winner recorded 137 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks overall. No. 22: QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State Six quarterbacks in the first round may be a stretch, but the Bills aren’t in a position to land one of the top four prospects. Of course, Lamar Jackson was available earlier. However, Buffalo already gave up on Tyrod Taylor because its coaching staff prefers a traditional pocket passer. Mason Rudolph is considered a fringe first-round prospect. He’s more likely a Day 2 selection, but the Bills are desperate. AJ McCarron’s presence does provide some flexibility. The 27-year-old McCarron will be given an opportunity to start after signing a two-year, $10 million contract. That deal, however, doesn’t guarantee the veteran anything. The 6’5″, 235-pound gunslinger led all FBS quarterbacks last season with 4,904 passing yards and tied for fourth with 37 touchdown passes. Rudolph left Oklahoma State as the program’s all-time leading passer with 13,618 yards. He can deliver the football with uncanny timing and touch, especially on deep passes. Chris Trapasso, CBS Sports No. 12: QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma StateWith the Jets setting the price to move into the top 5 extraordinarily high, the Bills don’t make a trade, pick Rudolph and keep all their early-round selections in the process. -

I am fine with Jackson but no way he starts this year or next, he needs time to learn to be under Center. Might not even dress game days. Rudolph can challenge for starter, if he loses than Peterman and him can vye for backup. If Peterman loses he is gone and Falk is game day cut, need 3 QB's during a season. -

Smith has been compared to Luke with NC. That is what he needs roaming middle of the field taking on TE's. This is McDermott's want and need. Rudolph is a big strong pocket passer with good accuracy, bigger arm than McCarron and ready to compete to be a starter. -

No way Smith gets to 12, Raiders are all over that. -

Cleveland takes Darnold, Giants Barkley, Jets Rosen, Cleveland Chubb or FitzPatrick, Denver Allen, Indy Nelson, Tampa James, Chicago Edwards. So either you want Baker, Jackson or Rudolph. at 12th. No way Baker gets there. Bills have to have a Middle Linebacker. -
Trade (done on draft day) - 9 Pick: Bills select Rowan Smith MLB (Bills pass on Baker here) by trade with SF for 12 and 3rd round(65), Raiders are after Smith. 22nd pick: Bills select Mason Rudolph QB, backup would be Jackson Trade (done before so Giants get RB) - 34th pick: Bills select Leighton Vander Esch MLB (Pittsburg gets Evans) by trade with Giants for Lawson, 3rd pick (96) and 2019 4th round Trade (done on draft day) - 35th pick: Bills select DJ Moore WR by trade with Browns for 2019 1st pick and 2018 4th pick (121) Trade (done on draft day) - 47th pick: Bills select Billy Price G/C by trade with Cardinals for 53rd pick, 5th round pick (166) and 2019 5th round pick 56th pick: Bills select Luke Falk QB Done: Give up next years 1st, 4th and 5th round.

This is a moot question. AJ McCarron is a fifth round pick. Alex Smith is a 1st round pick. Teams carry this differently so they are not the same. I am rooting for McCarron but you were trying to say there circumstances are the same and they definitely are not. Alex Smith was the 1st QB taken that year and has all the intangible qualities you draft a QB in that position. You could argue Rosen is in that position right now. McCarron probably is better than the 2017 draft. 2018, I would say Rosen and Baker have better stats but who has a record like McCarron, 36-4 two Championships.

Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine
USABuffaloFan replied to NewEraBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bodine has the second most starts of any Center in the league, He was Cincy's Center which means he has made line calls while McCarron was starting games towards playoffs and 1 playoff game. I don't think it is coincidental that he is in Buffalo now. I am sure this will help McCarron settle down starting for the Buffalo Bills. Groy has 1 year left on contract, he would be better off at guard and so would the team. I see a MLB and a speed receiver being selected by the Bills in the 1st round.
