personally, I don't see it. The image on the side of the helmet isn't a native being hanged or skinned. What about the cowboys? They killed natives? So did many patriots. And if you are offended, don't subscribe to their brand. I'm a free speech advocate, unfortunately that covers hate speech. The way to beat it is ignore it or change the meaning. Diffuse any power perceived by its meaning. Only those who get upset about the name lead credence to the hate that they perceive is behind it.

What about 49ers? Some of them used drugs and whores. If there was a team called the Polish Hussars, I'd take pride in that being Polish. I know Redskins isn't the greatest term, but isn't it meant to suggest the fierceness of a people? If it was meant as a derogatory term, why would you call your coaches/players that? It doesn't make sense that that is how it was intended to be perceived. I'd be more upset about people calling them Indians ( some real Indian people are) because Columbus thought he landed in the East Indies.

It's a private organization. I don't know if they get public money ala a stadium, if so that can change things. There are rules that govern that stuff. As for the sentiment part, it all depends on how people interpret it. Why would a team intentionally name themselves a derogatory phrase? It wouldn't sell. But they're portraying a fierceness, warrior mentality right? I may take pride in that like I know some Irish guys who took pride in ND. Would it matter if they chose a tribal name like Seminole? Would anyone here be offended if a team was the "Darkies" or "ebonies"? What about "Massai", a warrior people in Africa? "redbeards"? Berserkers? a Scottish warrior. "topknots"? Samurai? Which are offensive, and which aren't? Where's the line?
