The Rosen Era Has Begun in Arizona
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. Rosen is Johnson's BFF. They can't stack the box when the QB can beat you with his arm. Rosen can certainly do that. -
Ive wondered about this. I believed and expected the Bills to go after Bridgewater. Like you say it should have been attractive for the player because he would have started and been able to audition for his next contract. After I saw where he went and for how much I was even more puzzled. The only thing I could come up with is sometimes teams are reluctant to take chances on players with history of a significant injury. Otherwise it made no sense to me. I would have taken Teddy ahead of McC all day. Oh well.

The Rosen Era Has Begun in Arizona

Somebody else mentioned that he thought most of the fanbase wanted Rosen and I think that's probably true. For sure a good many fans and some analysts were wary of Allen (though to me he also was a first round talent). I find it puzzling when there is a major difference of opinion between the fanbase and OBD (not saying management was wrong, seems like the Cards wanted JA too). Its frustrating because I'd like to know how exactly they arrived at their decision (and I mean the "fly on the wall real reasons", not some press conference pablum). Did the Bills shun him because of his personality or his politics (the way some fans do?). Obviously there were things about him that made him a less desirable prospect than JA. And I have to believe they had a lot of confidence since it's an important decision, one that can affect their jobs and reputations. I wouldn't have a problem with a decision based purely on football ability, scheme, etc... even if I didn't necessarily agree with it. But if it was personality/politics I would beg to differ. I might go so far as to call it flat out stupid. I realize the importance of intangibles but I've never heard about teammates bad mouthing Rosen I guess I'll never know. -
No doubt. Actually when I look at him, his size, strength and athleticism its me who is reminded of Jenkins, a two time all pro, four time pro bowler. Just wishful thinking of course.
-
Figured out why McCoach wanted this guy. He probably reminds him of Kris Jenkins who was drafted by Carolina also in the second round, so at least a facsimile of a Panther if not quite the real deal . If he can morph into KJ (and stay healthy) that would be great and a big poke in the eye of the fish.

JP was thought by many to be a first round talent and it is pretty obvious why. Thing is his motor has always been suspect. He has himself said it runs hot and cold. It was his rep in college too where people thought he underachieved relative to his talent. He's like Josh Allen not just because he can high hurdle opposing players but mainly because they both have very high ceilings. If Allen fails tho it won't be for lack of trying. If Coach can light a fire under this guy and get his head right the Bills will have found a very good player.

The guy seems so quick and agile maybe he could be the world's biggest 3 tech. What a freak.

Kid is an arrogant prick, but I like it. It ain't bragging if you can back it up. -
Taron Johnson playing very good ball.

Looks like Aaron tried to trip him as TJ was walking away after the play. The great one showing a little pique. Can't blame him, that blitz was beautifully disguised. -
Someone needs to be fired over Mahomes right now.

Do you think Andy told him who he wanted? -

I liked him but was not upset that we didn't draft him. OTOH I remember some posters loved him and for the right reasons if memory serves. Those guys deserve some credit for that. -

I feel your pain regarding the lack of weapons on offence, but my sense of it is that Edmonds may well wind up a steal where he was taken and well worth the trade up. -

Coach, to me, is extremely impressive as an evaluator of talent on the defensive side of the ball. And he's a top shelf DC. If he can grow into his role as a HC and show the same abilities with the O we will be in good shape. -

That of course is true. However when they display rocket arm's and accuracy teams seem willing to take a chance - Carr, Mahomes. Clearly Reid saw something he really liked in PM. He probably sat him to give him time to learn/adjust to a pro offence but he knew the kid had the goods he wanted. Maybe the Bills downgraded him based on the conventional wisdom you reference. Sometimes I think the Bills don't show the same acumen as some other teams. I think McCoach has that on the defensive side of the ball. Not sure about the O. Time will tell. -
Star and Shaq Stats Alarming
starrymessenger replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Criticizing Star for not making tackles is indeed misunderstanding his role. His job is to occupy a guard and a tackle and that's it. If he's not doing that it's a problem. Space eaters take a lot of heat from fans. Leonard Williams was regarded by many as the best player in his draft class. The Jets were so lucky he fell to them etc...In the Jets D his job is pretty much the same as Star's with the Bills. Many there now hate him because he's not making tackles/ getting sacks. There's a lot of doubt about whether the team will even exercise his fifth year option. At least the Bills have a good pash rushing DE to benefit from Star's work. The Jets don't have that. if Williams hits the FA market it will be interesting to see whether he lands a generous contract, and/ or whether his new team changes his role and assignments. -

Yep, he's a nerd. Yep, he has a very punchable face. Still, all things considered, I saw him as the most promising pro QB prospect in the class (for however little that was worth). Couldn't believe our luck when he fell to us. I remember the call from the podium "Josh..." I start jumping up and down and then "...huh". He's not at all a great athlete but he's a good athlete. He won't beat you with his legs but he is plenty mobile enuf to move in and around the pocket the way the Matt Ryan's of the world do. He's football smart (and probably in other ways too). I don't think he will wind up in a wheelchair. He's actually pretty big and will likely bulk up a bit and get stronger. He's as good as Baker as a natural passer. He's a very good prospect and I think he will get better. If memory serves I believe you were high on him too. IMO Josh too was legit as a high first round pick so we've got our guy. Looks like the Cards would have taken him ahead of Rosen as well. It will be interesting to see how it will all pan out. -
Yes, of course. And he got to sit awhile behind JM before taking over in SF. I was just saying a year probably won't be long enuf to come to any firm and final conclusions on JA. After two years with the Bucs, a team worse than the Bills, he was labelled a bust. He went on to have an ok career you might say.
-
We will know a lot more about Allen's chances by the end of the year but it's unlikely we will have anywhere near a reliable final opinion. It took Steve Young longer to pan out. Along these lines the timing of the rebuild is not ideal. If the Bills look mainly to the draft to shore up the O-line and WR group they will likely have to wait a year or two for these guys, even if top shelf prospects, to begin realizing their potential - see David DeCastro, Corey Davis, Mike Williams and many others). I expect they will be very aggressive in free agency.
-
Yeah, according to scouting Lewis's speed (which he does possess) somehow doesn't show up after he flips his hips to break downfield with the receiver. I thought it was evident on that play, although the wideout was admittedly a burner. Maybe that's why Lewis tho talented has bounced around without sticking with a team so far. It will be interesting to see how this aspect of his game develops (or not).

Will the Bills ruin Josh Allen?
starrymessenger replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not saying that his baptism by fire will ruin him but I have a hard time seeing how this is good for his development. Andy Reid is said to be a QB whisperer and he sat PM for a year as he worked on mechanical issues that were seen as problems. Maybe he didn't have to and I get it that the Chiefs had a quality starter so it was perhaps a luxury they could afford. OTOH Reid also sat Donovan McNabb until later in his rookie year and all they had was Doug Pederson ahead of him. So it would seem that Reid prefers to marinade these guys before throwing them into the fire. In yesterday's telecast they said Coach had told them the night before that he was of the school of thought that says you can ruin a QB by starting him too early. If that's true I've got to think there is at least a disconnect between what the Bills believe and what they do. Earlier it was reported that when questioned about this Daboll said that the first thing they work on when Josh shows up in the morning is mechanical things and fundamentals. But given the demands on and off the field of in week game preparation I wonder if that gives him the time he really needs to work on these things. Developing good fundamentals is also absolutely essential to Allen's success. When he executes the basics properly, for an "inaccurate" QB he is deadly accurate (in a way that someone like EJ for example never was and that's why he's a better prospect). When he's running for his life is when he's inaccurate, even wildly so. -
Receiver slipped and it still went off his hands. Browns have dropped three already. Baker looking very good IMO.
