  1. Hmmm... Looks like tough guy Edelman thought twice before trying to tackle him lol
  2. If he can keep it up he will definitely be signing a big deal somewhere, hopefully with the Bills. He pretty much lined up as a nose in Oklahomas' 3/4 and was used mainly in early down/short yardage situations. He was highly effective in occupying OLinemen and keeping the linebackers clean. He was not asked to rush the passer but because he displayed surprising athleticism and agility for a man his size pro scouts were intrigued by the possibility that he could develop as a penetrating DT. Given the scheme he played in college it was assumed that it would take time before he would be able to do this, if it was going to happen at all. So he was drafted as a run stuffer with possible upside. Looks like the pass rush part of his game has come to fruition. That puts him firmly in the class of a featured defensive player. Size, strength, quickness, agility - he has all the talent needed to be a star so if he works at his game like a serious professional he should succeed. He needs to maintain proper technique - he sometimes has a high pad level when engaging offensive linemen, so not leveraging efficiently the power in his lower body. He is occasionally slow off the snap. When his technique suffers he can sort of disappear for a stretch. Vincent Taylor also looks to me like a guy who can play at a high level. Thank you Miami!
  3. Well I like him too of course. Amazing player and has been that way consistently since the day he stole the job from Matt Flynn, in other words since the day he first walked onto an NFL practice field.
  4. Love seeing Brady's throws falling in no man's land.
  5. He needs to audible out of some of Daboll's play calls and let er rip. Seriously, I think he is learning to work the pocket but I see him as play action capable and would like a significant percentage of his shotgun snaps to be roll outs/moving pocket. Good way to leverage his athleticism without designed run calls, buy some time as a play develops and maybe better deal with man cover schemes. Not worried about DCs putting a spy on him. He's a good enuf athlete to usually beat most LBs, even good ones. I would also like to see a better deep ball. I'm sure he's got it in him.
  6. The point is that the Bills would not be taking much of a "chance" or risk in claiming Gordon, unless of course he was somehow a threat to the program, or should I say "process". And if a guy you could drop kick off your team at any time and for any reason is somehow a threat you need to avoid, then the structure is not very strong to begin with. Not putting a claim in on JG shouldn't be looked at in isolation. It's part of the bigger picture together with the team's inability to trade before the deadline. I'll admit to being disappointed to learn that the 49rs outbid the Bills for E. Sanders. You like Brown? Sanders has plenty left in the tank IMO and is probably a better WR. Speaking for myself, I derive little consolation from the thought that it's ok because the 49rs are a better team than the Bills. There was also something odd in McD's peculiarly aggressive if not gratuitously hostile reason for not making a trade. Dick J was really good with DBs too, but he was only half a head coach. I hope we're not headed in the same direction again. In fairness I think Dick's hands were maybe somewhat tied by ownership that was no longer even interested in being competitive. Beane and McD don't have that excuse.
  7. Passing on Gordon makes no sense to me. Very low risk/sunk cost (lower than Benjamin or Zay), high potential reward (higher than either one of those clowns). Hope this doesn't signal this administration's inability or unwillingness to try to work with talented players who require "special care". If so the talent pool may be limited. Good teams take chances on these types of players, and for a good reason, although in so doing they have different philosophies, approaches and methods: both Bill B and Pete Carrol do it, albeit in different ways. Honouring the process should not disguise a lack of self confidence or ability to manage personalities as volatile and diverse as you get on the typical NFL roster. Or maybe the McD culture is a lot more vulnerable than we have been led to believe. I'll watch with interest how Gordon makes out in Seattle. I think they just got better.
  8. To me this is a weak and unnecessary comment from McD. I agree with those who speculate he was probably still smarting from seeing his vaunted D get pretty much blown off the ball two games in a row.
  9. I would give him a C. But that's not surprising IMO given his youth and inexperience. So it doesn't mean that he can't improve,. Whether he will or not is right now anybody's guess. I'm optimistic but there are no guarantees. It's just too hard to project a college prospect at that position to the pros. It's pretty much a crap shoot. Something that concerns and puzzles me is the inaccuracy so far this year of his long ball. Missing them as badly and as frequently is a recent development. I don't understand what the reason for this might be. His short passing game, which has improved, used to be the problem. His long ball was always previously pretty decent.
  10. Iggles are not a good team right now.
  11. He's done in NE. They needed to make room for Sanu and they may not be through dealing.
  12. Pats did not release him to prevent him being a FA and likely signing with a competitive and WR needy team (I can think of one in particular). So they IR him and put him through waivers where some deadbeat team can claim him. Not so dumb.
  13. Doubt that he will be available to us but if he is and if he's healthy and clean the Bills would be fools to pass on the opportunity IMO. He's 28 years old and still amongst the most talented of receivers (AJ is 32 and is injured). He's big, he's fast, has a wide catch radius and great hands. Last year he was on track for another 1000 yard season, or close to, before injury. Pats had a second round tender on him coming into this year. Again assuming he's healthy and has been a good citizen I'd be all over it in a heartbeat if we have a shot.
  14. This! Darnold was awful last night but Gase did him no favours - not many screens, slants, hot reads just longer developing routes as if he was play calling for Peyton in the Colts heyday. Plus Darnold vs Belly = no contest. Even when he had max protection with 2 TEs and a full backfield Sam was suckered into making the obvious protection calls based on Bill's pre-snap look - as if Bill would be so obvious as to do what a 22 year old QB would expect post snap. To me this signals Gase's inability to prepare for and make necessary adjustments. He's really terrible. BB also effectively messed with Allen's mind but overall I feel that Josh and the Bills O did better and could possibly have made things interesting (unlike last nights game) in the 4th quarter if Allen had not been concussed.
  15. I too would happily send them a fifth for Drake. From Beane's perspective Zay morphs into Drake which I would see as an upgrade and a good move.
  16. Drake for Zay? In a heartbeat!
  17. Drake. He can do what Yeldon does ie catch the ball. And he can do what Yeldon has not been able to do as a pro ie run the ball. Nothing againt Yeldon, but Drake is a significant upgrade IMO.
  18. They could easily have their hands full with KC, Eagles, Cowboys, Texans, Browns and the Bills too. They will go only so far as their defence can take them so their chances pretty.much depend on whether and to what extent their early season excellence on that side of the ball can continue.
  19. In addition to going against Bill and his # 1 rated D, or maybe because of it, there is no doubt that Allen was psyched out against NE for most of that game. I have to agree with you that Allen was not himself and while he's had his ups and downs to be sure he seemed to me to be destabilized in a way that I don't think I had previously noticed (and hope not to notice again). Having said that Allen is a gamer and was starting to look steadier on his pins when he was clocked. He is 100% capable of a big play and/or series at any time, but he seems to show it mostly as time is winding down and the pressure is ratcheting up (which is itself a good sign). Allen right now is very streaky, but when he's on he is a presence to be reckoned with. I have no doubt that bad as he looked before he could very credibly have engineered another "improbable" 4th quarter victory.
  20. Pats aren't as good as their record would suggest. Jets (if Darnold and Mosely are 100%) aren't nearly as bad as their record would indicate. All things considered I see them as only a year or so behind the Bills in their rebuild. As long as BB is there I expect NE to field a very competitive team even after TB retires, but I think we are beginning to see a transition in the AFC East where very soon the Bills, Pats and Jets all can legitimately aspire to the division title. Having said that I have a hard time seeing Darnold thrive against Bill, that pass rush and secondary Monday night. If nothing else it should be another chance to see if Gase has anything to offer as a game planner and play caller.
  21. I'll be interested to see how the Bills prioritize the position come draft day. There are a handful (actually a lot relatively speaking) of first round eligible WRs, but one of the reasons the 2020 draft is deep is that some very good second tier prospects are expected to be available in the middle and possibly even the later rounds. I'm wondering whether the Bills draft two.
  22. I really don't see him as a 1000 yarder even in the best of cases, but 650-700 with clutch catches on third down conversions and in the red zone would qualify him as a genuine starting calibre WR on this and a lot of other teams. I guess we will see how it plays out.
