  1. I've been thinking this for a long time. I thought he was a natch to them last year but for that franchise RB being there and a need.
  2. There are players I would pick ahead of him but they prolly won't be there. J. Williams will be a very good pro at tackle or inside for many years. What's not to like if he's the pick? Nothing that I can see.
  3. I'm head over heels over DKs measurables but not enuf production and more importantly his route running and hands are, I won't say suspect because there isn't much to back that up either, but unproven. I think that couple of years ago Corey Davis was a better prospect and worth a top ten selection despite the conference. This year I'd rather have Harry later even if I had to trade up. Having said that with his other worldly athleticism, bloodlines, and stratospheric ceiling he probably presents the profile Beane seems to like so I wouldn't be surprised.
  4. Both Ford and Clark can rush the passer on the outside, but Clark is a tougher, way more physical player who is much, much better against the run. The price was very steep agreed but the Chiefs obviously think they've landed a 25 year old elite pass rusher who is not at all situational and who adds a lot of value on every down. If they are right he's worth it.
  5. If a QB lacks personality he might still be a great player. Having a great personality definitely helps though, in the lockerroom and in the huddle, assuming you otherwise have the tools. That's why they say Napoleon (when he was on his game) was worth 20,000 men in the field. His guys loved him. Having the right personality for the job is a positive and an important intangible. Of course you also need to have the tools. I'm very encouraged by Allen's rookie year, especially after his return from injury. The biggest question surrounding any college player is whether and how well he will be able to transition to the pro game. Lots of players look good in college and even project well to the next level but don't transition well. It's a big jump. It's when a guy continues to impress and especially even looks like he can improve that you start to think you've maybe struck gold. I checked out as much of Allen's WYO tape as I could last year before the draft. There were issues with his game (and there still is) but he was clearly cut in the mould of a dominant player. Last year he consistently flashed the same dominant tendencies on an NFL field and in fact to my untrained eye he was a better and more effective player in the NFL after his return from injury than he was in the Mountain West. That's pretty ridiculous IMO. So I have some confidence that things bode well for him and the Bills. I think he's going to be good. Maybe great.
  6. Cards are taking Murray # 1. Given the hype nothing else would make any sense. Trading out of the first spot (if that was their plan) would give them the same leverage/value without the hype & undermining Rosen. IMO they will regret their decision.
  7. There is no doubt that Hock would be a great addition and really an ideal way to round out all of the excellent work Beane has already done to try and help out JA in the passing game at the line, on the outside and in the slot. So I think he'd be a good pick and I'd have no problem getting behind it. But if an outstanding 3T or edge guy is there (or even close enuf to justify a cost efficient trade up) at the top of the draft that is the direction I'd go in. You need to pressure the passer and we don't do that nearly well enough. That would do more for our D than Hock would do for our O which is just another way of saying it would do more for the team as a whole. They signed a good blocking TE who can also probably help out in the passing game and they have a guy already on the roster (for now) who should be able to contribute in that regard. And Hock is not the only TE in the draft. JMO but I suspect that Hock goes toward the middle of the first at best and maybe even a bit later. I'm not taking him at 9. Having said that I respect Jeremiah's opinion. He called Spiller if memory serves.
  8. Spain is a load lol. And as long as your just asking him to block the man in front of him (and get to the second level) he should be fine in the run game. Good addition.
  9. I agree with those who say that Duke has been gifted an excellent opportunity. Like other position groups on offence there will be lots of competition and room to make the roster, especially if the Bills don't prioritize WR in the draft (if eg. they go DT and edge the first two rounds). Williams is a big physical receiver who tracks the ball well and has excellent hands. The team can use a player with this skillset if he can transition. If Daboll opts for some 11 personnel sets I can see him as a useful complement in his O, and a big help to Allen especially mid-range over the middle of the field. He wasn't asked to block in Edmonton, but if he can do that I can see him as possibly serving occasionally as a borderline hybrid TE. I think he is a better receiver than Charles Clay at this point in Clay's career. Idk whether or how well he will make out against a big step up in the level of play. I doubt that he will be a star but he may prove a useful addition and well worth a roster spot. At the very least it' will be interesting to see how his story plays out.
  10. Maybe coming from folks with an agenda idk but Casserly reported scuttlebutt that he was the worst interviewee that teams had ever seen. Seems like a lot of red flags there. I guess I'm a little surprised that he'll be the first player off the board.
  11. JMO but there are 2 sure fire immediate impact players at the top of the draft: Bosa and Williams. If you are within striking distance of either you jump. Allen is a great prospect but won't find his stride at the next level right away, probably not for a couple of years. I think Bosa is the second player off the board and I'd rather have the DT anyway based on need/fit. Williams projects as all pro 3 tech and would turbo charge this D into top 5.
  12. If Williams somehow makes it past the 49rs, Jets and Raiders (and it's just possible) imo Beane will do everything in his power to move into the 5 spot. If you knew nothing about this year's draft and tried to conjure up an image of the ideal first round pick for the Bills you could easily conjure up a DT with Q. Williams's exact measurables and skillset. As much as I like him I see Oliver as a consolation prize. I think Beane would burn draft capital for Williams before staying put for Oliver at 9.
  13. If the Ram and Bills offers are competitive I would not blame Spain if he opted (and quickly) for the Rams. It's not just that right now they are the better team and legit championship contenders (every player likes to flash that ring) but he'd be joining a fully functioning elite unit, probably the best in the NFL. The Rams have McVey, who uses run friendly '11' personnel more than any other playcaller in the league and they also have Kromer, an outstanding and proven line coach. The Bills line is really on day 1 of a work in progress and realistically even if things work out well it will probably be a couple years before they can execute with consistent proficiency as a unit. It takes that long before the guys learn each other's tendencies and analyse how to attack different defences with a singular focus in meeting rooms, in practice and in live action. The Rams used to have a bad O-line, like us. It took them a couple of years to go from among the worst to the best. I actually have confidence in the Bills current braintrust and I think they will get there but right now the Bills and Rams would reflect very different propositions to a guy like Spain.
  14. As far as PM is concerned no look was nice but what impressed me more was a play that won't make any highlight reels: I once saw him under pressure while rolling to his left switch hands to avoid a defender and complete a short pass with his left hand. It occurred to me that this was a guy for whom gamespeed was more like slow mo and whose QB brain was as calm as could be. Looks to me like he's going to be a great one (assuming he's not already).
  15. I see where I said that I liked Allen as a prospect and that he was legit IMO as a first round QB but that I had a hard time seeing why Beane would move up for him. On reflection that was a probably a dumb thing to say. A first half of the first round QB is exactly the kind of player that you move up in the draft for if you need one. I think it's pretty clear that Beane (and a few posters) knew better than most of us, but of course it's his full time job to know better. Josh Allen looked like a man amongst boys in the Mountain West. What I did not expect at all is that he would so often look like a man amongst boys on an NFL playing field, even tho he is the boy and those other guys are the men. To me that is flat out ridiculous. He continues to flash as a dominant player. Now after seeing him for the better part of a year he is at the very least confirmed as the QB in his class (and IMO it was a very strong class) with the highest ceiling and the odds have swung decidedly against him ever busting. He needs now to continue developing as a passer and he still has lots to prove but I don't think anyone can fault the GM for the decision that he made.
  16. Ivory was serviceable in our backfield but he had clearly already lost a step and was an easier take down by the time he got here. It was a different story years ago when at the top of his game - a tough no-nonsense fearless downhill runner who I always enjoyed (and sometimes feared) watching him do his thing. I respected him as a player, and still do. Letting him go now makes sense. Even at his age Frank Gore can do anything CI can do and then some. He is simply, and always has been, a much more accomplished runner (and needless to say one of the greatest players to ever haul the rock). Look forward to seeing what the Bills do to replace Ivory.
  17. Just a hunch but I've got a feeling if the top of the draft goes QB crazy and Bosa, Allen or Williams are within striking distance ...maybe not likely but who knows (Beane I guess). Or back into the 1st for Hock.
  18. Couldn't care less about stirring the pot and trash talk. Lots of players indulge in this and it even adds a little spice to the proceedings we all so attentively follow so closely. To me what's important is the bottom line. I didn't want Brown and I'm glad he's not a Bill. He's a great player but my concern was the possibility that he would be a disruptive influence and interfere with the continuing process of Josh Allen's taking control of this team as its undisputed leader. In one injury shortened season JA has already taken impressive strides in that direction but he still has lots to prove and he is by no means there yet. Whether you like Ben or not, if Brown couldn't get along with a HOF calibre passer there was to me a real risk of a toxic mix with the far from finished product Allen, with possible bad implications for team morale. That's not a risk I would take because even if he suited up as a Bill Brown would not be the future of this team. For now at least Josh Allen is the face of the franchise who needs and deserves 100% support of management, teammates and fans.
