RD 3, Pick 96: TE Dawson Knox, Ole Miss
starrymessenger replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah no kidding. He's supposed to be a mature, level headed guy. He's a professional now, not a college kid, and he needs to act like it. Maybe Lorax or Frank Gore should kick his a$$. -

This is not a great WR draft IMO (or RBs either for that matter). Not to say terrible, some guys project as # 2s, #3s but no clear #1 prospects. Thing is, except for AJ Brown (who I like a lot), they are all probably years away from being consistent and productive players assuming they ever get there ( with possible exception for guys drafted into perfect schemes like Isabella in Zona). Looks to me that the Bills figured out a long time ago that they were not prioritizing that position in the draft. They went with proven quality NFL receivers in FA instead to complement the best of what they already have on the roster. -
RD 2, Pick 38: OT Cody Ford, Oklahoma

Some of the reporting on Ford is contradictory. Some people say he's a road grader. Maybe they see a huge guy and figure he's a mauler (even if he's not) and therefore project him to guard. Others say his actual skill set is pass pro which maybe bodes well in a pass happy league. Somebody doesn't have it right here. Just goes to show that half the "experts" really don't know what they are talking about. Best to watch the tape and make up your own mind. I haven't watched all the tape, just highlight reel stuff and his Alabama game so I don't know what I'm talking about either but from what little I've seen he looks like he can run block (though not a road grader) and is better as a pass blocker (consistently snuffed out # 99 in the championship game). Some question around the quickness of his first lateral step so maybe some vulnerability to very quick outside speed rushers. He looks athletic for a big guy who can get to and be effective at the second level. Hes a good prospect ar RT IMO who will benefit from being coached up (like all of these guys). He seems to appreciate the importance of coaching (and therefore of learning) and he really likes our O-line coach who he knows and who obviously knows and likes him. -

Sports hernia. Fully recovered by pro day. Hence 5.7 and 5.1. -

Knox has everything you would look for in a TE prospect in terms of both measurables and intangibles. Prototypical size, elite athleticism, a really good head on his shoulders (honour roll, double major), demonstrated ability as a receiver and blocker. The only thing he doesn't have is the production he would have had if he played at Iowa. He's only been a TE for 2 years but has shown that he is coachable - he made strides as a blocker last year, which suggests that he is capable of filling out the gaps in his game and grow into the position. Nothing not to like about this pick. You are rolling the dice on all but a few prospects. Knox is a good bet. -
RD 3, Pick 74: RB Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic

He'll be as good as his O-line. You can see the difference between his Oklahoma tape and where his O-line is more effective against lesser competition. Only thing that bothers me is the tread on his tires and the fact that he's useless in the passing game. Re tread maybe he will take after Frank Gore. Re receiving out of the backfield we've got Yeldon. This is going to be situational backfield by committee. I think maybe Daboll makes good use of him. Measurables aren't there but the kid looks like a gamer and a football player. -

What you say makes sense to me. I'm happy with either one, but would like to know the basis for the Bill's decision. They will never get into it tho. -
They sort of have the same positional value, but AJ can do what JuJu does. Middle of the field might get a little crowded tho, so idk.
-
Just looking at players, If it's a WR I want AJ Brown. Rather be safe than sorry. He'd be a big help to JA. Only thing is we signed a slot receiver in FA so idk.
-
Whatever else happens I want Risner or Ford.

Hes a great kid and an athlete from another world. I sort of feel bad for him. I dont know that they pick him if available. I get the feeling that the Bills will be disappointed if they fail to make a strong playoff run this year. I think thats what they expect. I dont know they will want to wait the 2 to 3 years needed to find out if he can develop. Brown is good to go and Butler has done more to favourably project to the next level.

I think they sit tight and take who they feel is BPA-and there are plenty of good prospects. Just my preference but Id like to see O-line and TE in the second, then whatever is best from amongst WR, DB and RB remaining when they are on the clock. I sort of like the idea of packaging later round picks for an extra second except our braintrust seems to be pretty good at finding gems much later, even undrafted. I feel a lot better now on draft day that I have confidence in our GM, HC, scouts and others involved in the evaluations. Didnt always have that feeling in the past.

RD 1, Pick 9: DT Ed Oliver, University of Houston

I believe we got a great player but no one with a brain in his head thought he was ever lining up as 1 tech. John Randle is an interesting comparison tho. -

Agree. Add to core strength elite athleticism and a rather violent demeanour ( to say the least) and what you get is a great player at a position of dire need. Frankly I'm ecstatic. Now I'm just hoping our HC can keep his hands off another DB. His head must be spinning. -

I don't think people quite get it. Core strength can be as much a God given attribute as speed, agility etc... Ed Oliver is just tremendously strong for his weight. He's a lot like Donald that way.
