  1. The thing about Allen is that right now there is really no reason to foreclose on even the most ambitious projections. After a year in the league he really hasn't done anything to lower perceptions of his ceiling. Will be fun seeing how things work out in this and in the coming years.
  2. Absolutely correct but speed rushers may also prove to be a weakness in Ford's game at this level of play. I have some concerns about that TBH. I think he has a future as a starter on an NFL line (though maybe not immediately). Right now with experience I see him developing into a quality guard. That would certainly justify the pick. Good guards are hard to come by.
  3. Right. In their scheme he was asked to be Star L. Hardly a glamorous role. He did that. He's a good player who may flourish in a different system. If they go with the same alignment despite the change in DC (which Gase has said) it wouldn't surprise me if they used QW in the same way, in which case Jets fans will be tearing up the cobblestones again. Rinse and repeat. A lot probably depends on whether the Polite they got was the 2017 or 2018 version.
  4. Jets spent too heavily on the front 7 IMO. It would have made more sense for them to pick Allen as the premier edge rusher they badly need and then address the O-line, a weakness, to better protect and help develop their young QB (as Beane has tried to do). I also agree that they could have no assurance that Polite would be there in the third when they got to pick. Mind you, if Polite pans out anything like his 2018 tape their front will be scary good.
  5. Pats of course should be strongly favoured to rule the Division yet again. But I think the Bills have a decent chance of ranking second and seriously competing for a playoff spot as a WC. Jets should have a good D, but so should we. All things considered we have about the same weapons on offence than they do and we are well ahead of them in fixing the O-line - what both teams need to help their young QBs. Why he thinks the Finns are going anywhere but the cellar this year is a mystery to me. Rosen is not any better off there than he was in Arizona.
  6. Duke has been given a great opportunity with the Bills. This WR corps really needs and could be much improved if it had a big nasty physical possession receiver. There is a reason the Bills were interested in Boldin even at the end of his career. That would be Duke's role on this team. But it's going to be a big challenge. Those saying that you cannot compare CFL DBs with the quality players he will be going up against in the NFL are right. None of those guys you see in his highlight reel could likely make an NFL roster, let alone start. The difference especially at those high pay grade positions is exponential. And the go routes you see him running in Canada maybe look nice on tape but that will not be his job in Buffalo. Brown and Foster do that. He will be running short and intermediate level slants and outs, curls, digs and comebacks. If he hits a seam he could have decent YAC. He's big and fast enuf. He tracks the ball well and has strong hands. He is not a body catcher. He is capable of high pointing the ball but often his elevation, while good enuf to beat a CFL DB, is not as good as it seems, especially when he is falling away from the ball. He will also need to keep his feet under him more. All this falling down is bush league stuff. He needs to concentrate on what they want him to do, be humble and work hard. If he can do that he's got a chance based on raw talent. Those saying he's today's DaRick are mistaken. Whether he gets it done or not if anything he's better than that.
  7. I hear you but don't forget that the Chiefs had a good O-line (we got their centre) and the Rams spent two years going from maybe having the worst to maybe having the best O- line in the whole league before things started to come together for them on offence. My only regret this year is that we couldn't get both Ford and Risner (but that is a pipe dream, overkill and wasn't going to happen anyway). As others have said WR will probably be at the top of our agenda in 2020 and there will be some good ones available. Let's make sure we put the horse before the cart. In the meantime if we are lucky Zay will make a big leap and maybe Williams will be that big bodied physical receiver that can play inside and out that we so badly need. But no doubt WR (and I would add RB even after Devin) is a pressing need going forward.
  8. I have by no means given up on Zay. It's not unusual for WRs to take a few years to transition. But I'm not sure that a competent Zay Jones would be what this WR corps needs in terms of receiver type. JuJu was that guy. Good chance AJ Brown was too. I'm hoping Duke Williams is a player. That's all we've got right now.
  9. I think DK has a chance to be good and I'm happy for him that he landed where he did. He may in time turn into something special. But even among developmental prospects he really didn't deserve to be the first one off the board - that was Mecole Hardman, a little guy. Hollywood, AJ and Harry were all better picks. I liked Harry but IMO AJ Brown was the guy I would have taken as most versatile and most likely to really lift our whole WR group, but I too was all for O-line since Ford or Risner were there in the second.
  10. Butler may be good...in a couple of years. AJ Brown will be good ...immediately. You cant always get everything you want, even if you need it, so I'm not second guessing the Bills braintrust, not at all. But for my money AJ Brown was the one and only guy in this draft who might have transformed the Bill's WR corps, making everybody better, maybe a lot better. His value to the Bills was exponential because of the kind of player he is. Duke Williams better be good because IMO this group could really use a sure handed, versatile physically imposing WR who you could mistake for an RB after he catches the ball. Small or finesse UDFA receivers are not in the mould that's likely to help you in that way, even on the off chance that one of them is actually exceptional enuf to eventually make the roster.
  11. Yeah I've often wondered how they worked together, being so different (or at least seeming so to me. Gettleman seems incompetent. I have a good friend in NYC whose a die hard life long fan. Feel bad for him.
  12. Finns will trade him for a 4th next year after they draft Tua. The football gods are sadistic and they hate this kid. Me I'm glad he's in the AFCE with Allen and Darnold. Makes for more interest and fun. I think he's got a chance to be pretty good in the right O.
  13. You have a point - as long as he can max out on his potential. He was a monster last year and is maybe a first round talent but he had a lousy combine and dropped for a reason, including bad interviews. Hardly the same prospect as Allen. We will see what Gregg will be able to do with him. And keep him clear of Mr Dounut.
  14. Yeah that's what Greggo does but I thought they had opted to continue with their 3/4 base defence. Maybe I'm not up to date.
  15. So he reaches on his first pick for a player he says needs to sit behind Eli for three years. Got it. Glad he's not our GM.
  16. Not sure why the Jets are above average. Sure they maybe got the best player in the draft, or close to, but I discount that because he's not a great scheme fit for them. L. Williams played as a 3/4 DE next to Wilk and Richardson and it didn't go very well. The two Williams together would make more sense in a 4/3. They really needed an edge rusher. Have to think Allen would have been a better pick for them.
  17. Judging from the highlights this is not a throw away pick. Kid has some ability.
  18. I don't know if Duke Williams makes the roster but if he doesn't he can't complain. The table has been set for him assuming no further adds to a WR corps that can really use a big sure handed physical receiver.
  19. He was a WR before he was a QB before he was a TE. From what little we get to see he looks to have soft hands that he actually uses to catch the ball. Don't know where people are seeing a stiff player. Looks to me to be pretty fluid and flexible.
  20. No reason at all except he only caught 6 passes all of last year. Maybe he just wasn't asked to do it idk. But sure if he could do that and if he could flat out fly (which he can't) he'd be D. Sproles and I'd be more than fine with that. I don't hate the pick. Kid looks to me like a good football player. I do wonder if he was the BPA when they picked him tho. But the Bills know more than me.
