The way I read this, which may be the way you are reading it, he is already in default. If this is indeed the case then the contract automatically terminates the guarantee. It's as though it never existed. If they decide to kiss and make up it may then be necessary to revise the contract. Given the wording if I were Brown's agent I don't think I'd be comfortable having to rely on the theory that the Raiders had by their conduct waived a stipulation inserted exclusively for their own benefit. I wonder if these are standard terms in player contracts or whether they are special because of Brown's baggage.

Quite apart from having to hold the ball, which I agree can be an issue, I don't know that Brady still has the arm to make the best use of AB.

I sort of agree with this. Like many others I didn't want AB exactly for these reasons. And I was a little disappointed and more than a little concerned that the Bills pursued him at all. IMO management still has a lot to prove when it comes to drafting and signing skill position players on offence. I understand that a rebuild takes time and that this may be the last piece in the puzzle. And I get it that John Brown is a proven starting calibre receiver and CB a very good slot receiver, but after next year's draft they need to be in a much better place talent wise than they are now. I want to see how Singletary works out. If it's another Zay day I will seriously start questioning their evaluations. I think pursuing AB was an error in judgement.

Vincent Taylor is a quality young DT with some scheme versatility (4/3 or can line up as nose). Also surprised he's signed to a PS unless he's been given some assurances about being called up. Great move.

Like Bell, wouldn't Gordon also be a FA after sitting out a year? Bell didn't get paid, neither would Gordon if he sat out. From the players perspective aren't they pretty much in the same situation?

Did it work for L. Bell? Idk. And Bell is a better back, with most yards from scrimmage in first 5 years than any player in history. As for how good he is, how much worse is he than D. Johnson who is often injured and is making 13 per. And he's certainly better than D. Freeman whose somewhere between 7-8. And if he's no good why would the Chargers have offered him around 10x what they are paying both his alleged fantastic backups together? As others have said, 10-11 is probably the right number for him. Only thing he gains by holding out is I guess resting his legs before hitting free agency next year. Oh yeah, and maybe screwing his former team. The front end of their schedule is against good run Ds. We'll see how they make out. To me he would be much better off suiting up, having a good year and cashing in 2020.

If what has been reported is accurate, the Charger's opening bid is a clear indication that they have no intention of trading him. They have all the leverage and evidently intend on using it. I think his only real choice now is to suit up and play. I hope he doesn't dig in his heels and hold out. Really good players belong on the football field. Would I like to see him in a Bills uni? You bet. It would immediately and significantly bolster our chances of making the playoffs IMO. He's a franchise back. Not happening tho.

Agreed. Gordon doesn't deserve Zeke money (and neither does Zeke for that matter) but he's worth a lot more than the 5 bucks the Chargers would be paying him this year. He can pretty much do it all, runs well inside and out and is a receiving threat out of the backfield. I think he has the same yards from scrimmage as Zeke beginning 2015. Depending on the balance of terms I might have thought 10 per to be a very reasonable number. Hope he gets moved quickly. Best for all concerned.

Doubt I'd pay him what he'd want (though idk what he's asking) but IMO it is really just a question of comp not quality. He's really a very good RB in his prime who could seriously upgrade our backfield and offence. Gore's not carrying a team anymore and Singletary remains unproven. If the price was right or could be made right I'd sign him and cut Yeldon.

Don't understand what's going on with Noah Spence. I thought he was healthy and having a good preseason. With a new coaching staff switching to 3/4D, pressure in the middle with Suh and Vita, and JPP out for a bunch of games his position should have been secure. I gather he has issues defending the run but he can rush the passer.

Best place for him to land. If anyone can straighten his head out its PC. If Pete can't do it then, unfortunately, he's totally useless as a football player. You do realize that LW has pretty much relegated to a Star L role in the Jets defence. And although Greggo is a 4/3 guy it looks as though their base D will remain 3/4. I think many Jets fans would agree with the statement that they have nothing on the edge.

He wasnt used in the passing game in college. Based on preseason play it looks as though he may be able to contribute to some extent now and that's definitely a positive. Based on what little I've seen of his college tape (highlight reel stuff) I don't know what he's like in pass pro. I'm not sure either that I see much versatility based on scheme for that matter given the type of back he seems to be. Of course I'll be happy if you are right. Unlike some I don't put too much emphasis on his college stats or highlight reel clips. Again I'm going on virtually zero sample size but I have some doubts about the quality of competition he faced and I think he may have benefitted from relatively good blocking at that level - he was the cornerstone of his college offence and it seems to have been built around him. I would not count on seeing as much flash from him at this level of play. Based on his being pretty much an unknown quantity (at least to me) I'm a little concerned about the Bills running game. I think McCoy could still play and while there may have been reasons to cut bait I feel that our run game may have lost big play capability and therefore is simpler to defence. I think that actually limits Allen's options and puts more pressure on him (and Daboll). Gore is great but the days when he could carry an offence are long gone. As you point out Yeldon is a pass catcher. So a tremendous amount of responsibility falls on the rook's shoulders. If the run game underperforms this offence may well be in trouble IMO. The Bills brass has given him a huge vote of confidence. We'll see how it turns out and in the meantime hope for the best. After all, wasn't Kareem Hunt drafted in the 3rd round too.

I can easily see how a mentally challenged Polite would flunk out of a G. Williams D with all that it requires from LBs. If you were not content to groom him exclusively as a situational pass rusher at first then yeah, why draft him at all to begin with. With the pressure they can now bring up the middle an edge rusher is exactly what the doctor ordered for their D. Seems that they hate the guy so he won't be invited to their PS.

Well I'm a little surprised. After his last year at Florida I thought he was well worth a roll of the dice. Maybe the guy that showed up to practice was the Polite of the year before his draft year. Wonder where he will wind up.

He doesn't play ST like Sproles or Terry Metcalf did. He's pretty much strictly a RB isn't he. So I don't see the versatility. Also they were gamebreakers and I don't see him as that either. Mind you I think it is reasonable to project him as a good, possibly very good back. I think three other posters had it right. He may well routinely pick up 5-8 yards where a lesser back might get 2 or 3. I agree that NYG Morris is maybe a decent comparable, though I think he may be better. And I agree that probably one of the reasons they let McCoy go was to provide simplified focus for Singletary to learn from Gore.

Watched some of Nate this preseason. I pretty much thought I saw exactly the same guy. He can't make enuf of the throws he needs to make to stop a starting D from taking away the throws he can make and shutting his game down completely. And it's not just the out. Translates into a ticking time bomb. He's a young guy. I have no idea if he can improve. Odds are probably that he cannot but I'll certainly be watching with interest.

Darren Sproles could flat out fly. Singletary not so much. Not sure where this "top end burst" narrative is coming from.

Lots of reasons (including informed speculation) that can support/explain this move. Just based on what our backs brought to the table as a committee I felt pretty confident that our run game would be diversified and effective. I think it will be less effective now and I feel that it has taken a significant step back. A strong running game is important to Allen's development. Maybe McCoy's background as the feature back made the committee approach impossible. I think he can still play and look forward to seeing how he makes out this year.

Would I trade Barkley. Of course, depending on the compensation. He looks like a capable backup at this point. He's made four touchdown passes that I thought were really quite good throws (regardless of the competition). Two to Duke, one to Perry and one to Philips. I'd trade him for Jacobi Brissett tho. More upside IMO.
