With experience Allen will continue to improve, become more patient, rely on his playmakers, read defences better. He's still trending up and we don't know what the ceiling is, except we know it's high. There is room for improvement. As some have mentioned he's made great strides in being more consistently accurate with his throws but his ball placement can and will get better. He's been working on making his throws more receiver friendly. Dude has shown that he has all of the characteristics of an elite QB and it's looking very much like he will eventually get there. Bills also have managed him very well. There are few players who earn top marks in all relevant evaluation measures for the position they play. Allen is one of those. He's gonna be so rich it's ridiculous.

Jets may also be shopping Q Williams.
starrymessenger replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are going tank and full rebuild. Mosley is sitting out the year and many doubt that he will ever suit up again as a Jet. Adams gone, Bell gone, Mosely (probably) gone/traded. And as soon as Lawrence is on the horizon they will be a team that doesn't know who their leader/QB is. Sam might get the Rosen treatment. And then there is Gase. Total tire fire. Franchise from Hell. -

Ok I now see what Garofalo is saying re this termination thing. Great for Bell. Jets did him a big favour. He will be rolling in money. -

Well that certainly makes sense but I'd like to know how you negotiate a double dip. Not that I care about them, but I could see how the jets might not like that very much. I guess the lawyers have a way to do this. -

I would think so but looks to me like Bell is getting the same amount, just 1 MM more from the Bills and 1MM less from the Jets. Either way he's getting the same (Jets contract) amount. The Bills are in the game so I must be missing something, basically how the bottom line to Bell can be enhanced without a corresponding reduction in what the Jets already have to pay him. Money seems to be an issue in these negotiations so there must be a way. -

So then the Jets pay 7m less instead of 6mm. You would have to take over the Jets contract and then add the adjustment for the difference in taxes on an after tax basis. This can't be right otherwise I don't see how the Bills could even be in the room with him. -

So a player gets to pay tax at a zero rate on 50% of his comp (8 home games in Florida or Nevada) and a blended rate on the other 8 games. The difference between the top marginal NY rate and the Florida rate is north of 8%. On Bell's contract that's a big number. I don't know how the Bills compensate for that since anything they pay just reduces what the Jets pay. There must be mechanism otherwise the Bills could not be competitive with Miami financially. -

Apparently Bell is a resident of Florida. I don't know whether the state of residence has jurisdiction to tax him on his worldwide income or whether the state in which he earns the income as a part year resident gets to tax. It's always been my understanding that Bills players have to pay tax to NY so I assume the latter. If so it may be difficult to compensate Bell for the additional taxes he incurs if he plays in Buffalo because the more they pay, the less the Jets pay. Normally the Bills could just gross up his comp for the additional taxes he pays in NY versus some other place. -
Josh Allen - week FIVE report card
starrymessenger replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen has worked on throwing a more receiver friendly ball with less pace on it in those situations that call for that. But in most cases the ball will continue to get to where it's going pretty quickly. Receivers have to be ready for that and get used to it. Brown, Diggs, Beasley are top shelf NFL receivers and we've seen that they can now definitely handle Josh's throws. Roberts is not a starting caliber receiver and he's also less accustomed to catching Allen's passes. The ball was slightly behind Roberts but an NFL receiver is without doubt expected to make that play. I'm sure Roberts would agree. -

Don’t know if your cousin is right but I think its likely that he has made his decision with the delay in announcing it due to finalizing contract terms/paperwork. -

Wherever he winds up, and I hope its Blo, he's got to be happy he’s out of a Jets jersey. Adams is gone. Bell is gone and Mosely is not playing this year and may well also to have played his last game as a Jet. So the Jets are now going to play the young ones, inevitably tank and aim for the #1 pick in the 2021 draft. So Darnold has to be wondering whether they trade out of the first pick or trade him and go with Lawrence (good chance they trade Sam). And of course in the meantime they have a zombie for a HC. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse tire fire. -

Is it time to admit Ryan Tannehill is pretty good?
starrymessenger replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was always impressed with his arm strength and accuracy. Big difference between being at the controls of this Titans team and the Finn teams he was on. Good for him. He’s a good player. Has a nice wife too. -
Hello, resident Josh Allen "Hater" here to Report
starrymessenger replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not worried about Allen. He’s a franchise player and quite possibly, in due course, elite. I think we finally won the QB sweepstakes. -
Dawson Knox and the TE position
starrymessenger replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Knox is a big tease. He has absolutely everything you want in a TE. Except hands. Can a TE learn to catch? Or is it either you have it or you don’t, like maybe QB accuracy? -
Edmunds hasn’t looked good of late but much more than last year he’s having to deal with offensive lineman instead of mostly just running backs. No Star seems to be part of the problem. And we are unable to set the edge. Shaq did that quite well. We cant pressure the passer. Philips could do that. Looks to me like we miss those guys. We need an ILB, but that wont solve all of the problems on D.

Josh Allen - week FIVE report card
starrymessenger replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As for his grade in the game I guess I’d give him a B-/C+ type deal. The second pick was awful especially because Davis had a step or two on the DB so a missed opportunity. A couple more throws were off target (notably one again to an open Davis on a slant) and things only seemed to get worse rather than better as the game went on. A couple more throws could have resulted in picks. There were also a number of really bad drops however. And for whatever reason he didn’t get much help from the run game the (too) little they turned to it (gameplan/playcalls?). And his stat line wasn’t terrible, especially since one of the picks was on the receiver. Game grades aside I was quite pleased with his performance because it actually continued to confirm to me that his spectacular improvement this year is probably legit. The throw to Yeldon for six and the TD throw to Davis that was called back for a penalty that in no way affected the play are big boy throws that some NFL QBs just dont make because you need all of field vision, anticipation and arm strength to do it. One of the CBS crew members made I thought a good point that Allen is beginning to see the field and anticipate the action the way Mahomes does coupled with the athleticism that they share that enables them for example, to roll out to their left and throw a laser across their body to a receiver breaking in the opposite direction. I was expecting Allen to improve this year but frankly I’m amazed by his progress. Like all teams the Bills have their warts but the evidence is to my mind fairly clear that Allen is definitely a franchise guy and on his way to being one of the best. So be happy. -
Revisting 2019 Draft - D.K. Metcalf?
starrymessenger replied to Houston's #1 Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt in any do over of the Bills draft DK gets selected before Ford. Ford has an option on becoming a good guard. DK gives every indication of being not only an elite WR, but the kind of rare elite talent that can single handedly dominate and determine the course of action and results of a contest. DK is like TO in his prime ( except he’s not crazy). If the draft were held today DK would be taken somewhere in the top five. So lots of teams, including the Seahawks, passed on him. I was expecting DK to go in Ford’s spot, partly because the Bill’s brain-trust had shown a tendency to pick the raw but clearly extraordinary athlete - Edmunds, Allen. In fact Allen is sort of the DK Metcalfe of quarterbacks. A guy with unparalleled athleticism whose game has proven to be capable of the refinement required to excel at playing the position. -
Maybe what he meant was that the Bills will now dominate the Division in the same way the Pats did - mainly because of their QB - and not that Allen is a clone of Brady. Allen has always reminded me of John Elway. But at the end of the day Josh will be Josh and maybe in the future people will be comparing other players to him.

MNF: Pats* at Chiefs 7:05 pm CBS
starrymessenger replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or maybe Bill and his OC are more comfortable with the traditional (outdated?) philosophy of sitting the rook and going with the vet for a while. Pats also don't have a good veteran receiving corps to help a raw QB. No Brown/Diggs/Beasley there. Edelman seems to be on the downside of his career. The pick was just awful, and on him. Pats do have a decent run game. All they were asking Hoyer to do was hand the ball off and make the occasional throw to keep the opposing D honest. He has so little to offer in the passing game that he couldn't get it done. It was'nt your comment but seeing possible upside in a Hoyer replacement is not being a second class Bill's fan. It's just trying to ensure that you better know your enemy. And NE is our competition in the AFC East. -

There can be many reasons for this besides the one that says the kids no good. We don't know just how BB would tend to manage his QBs in a situation such as the one they are experiencing because they never had to before. And we don't even know if Stidham is 100%. I have nothing to go on but what I see. In Stidham I think I see a guy who has the physical ability to play the position and he doesn't seem to me to have the mentality of a confirmed backup. Not much to go on but I'd be willing to wager that if its not Cam next time it will be Stidham. Hoyer is abominable. He's a marginal backup at best. -

Well I think we're now going to find out. If Cam doesn't start their next game it will be Stidham and not Hoyer IMO. Should have been yesterday too. Stidham is a raw rookie but he's way more talented than Hoyer. He has a chance to be a good player, not Brady good, but good enuf to start. -
The End of the Lamar Jackson Era
starrymessenger replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right now I'd say that Lamar is easier to defend than Allen. The reason is simply that Jackson's arm is maybe not strong enuf to consistently make those shallow or deeper outside the hash power throws. This limits the Raven's offence, including even those things that they do really well. I think the Ravens need to develop this part of his game assuming the talent is there to be developed (I'm not sure that ability is there because I don't recall ever seeing it). Three TE sets feasting in the middle of the field is lovely but you need more to your passing game than that when the going gets tough later in the year. I don't recall ever having entered the Lamar Jackson era. It's just another good Roman offence such as we've seen before with a player uniquely capable of executing it to near perfection assuming a very good supporting cast (which they have). Having lost three times to Mahomes in that Chief's offence is no disgrace. Patrick Mahomes is maybe the best football player on the planet right now. The Chief's offence is completely diversified, especially with the addition of the LSU RB. The multiple Andrews drops sure didn't help Lamar in that game too. Jackson looks like he's going to be a very good NFL QB for a long time. Whether he will be great remains to be seen. IMO as good as the Raven's O is now with Lamar &Co I don't think it will be good enuf in the crunch later in the year. A very good playoff worthy NFL D running some version of the cover 3 scheme should give him lots of trouble. How much of that is Lamar and how much Roman I don't know. -
The Jets are going to go on a run

I agree with the OP. The Jets are definitely winning this year. Winning the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes that is.
