  1. I had interest in Gordon and even much more in E. Sanders (at least the Bills and I were somewhat on the same page there). I don't think Dez adds anything to our existing WR corps, except maybe makes it worse, so no, not at all.
  2. Allen stands out as an exceptional person. He's obviously an incredible athlete (whether he develops into a great QB remains to be seen), but he's also a very bright guy. Looks to me like he was raised right so kudos to his parents/family who obviously instilled in him the right values. There are not many kids that I would look up to but Allen is the exception. Then again I'm not 6'5" either.
  3. I would have loved to see # 11 man up......and then get destroyed. Like I said earlier I used to see DBs react that way when Jason Peters was lead blocking on sweeps. Used to crack me up.
  4. I think it's wrong to say the Bills are "the most flawed 6-2 team". They are, like most, a team with strengths and weaknesses. A work in progress. How they use their strengths and manage their weaknesses through the remaining eight games of the regular season will tell me whether or not they can be called a good team this year. Jury is out. A lot depends on how well the coaches do their jobs.
  5. Allen was a blue chip prospect for playing the all important position when he was drafted and nothing so far in his pro career alters that perspective. To the contrary he has shown reasonable progression. Looks to me that he is on his way to developing into a legit starting calibre QB and quite possibly a franchise guy. He absolutely has all the physical tools as well as the intangibles. I'm very impressed with him as a player and with his maturity as a person and leader of men. Of course his is possibly the toughest job in all of sports so it's gonna take awhile and nothing is given in this game.
  6. Must say that I am pleasantly surprised with what I saw from DS last Sunday. I'll admit to having been sceptical of the pick based on measurables, the conference he played in and a lack of familiarity with his work in college but of course what we are seeing and what we already knew is that running the football well involves a lot more than measurables. Although he wasn't asked to do it in college it also looks like he can get into space receiving out of the backfield. That's a major upgrade from what the casual observer might have expected. He also looks capable in pass pro, which will help qualify him as a three down and therefore a feature back. There is reason to hope that he develops into a top shelf RB capable of serving as a workhorse and singlehandidly delivering the ground game all successful offences must have. 20-25 touches per seems about right to me. He may wind up Josh Allen's BFF. And Gardner Minschew is a hoot.
  7. Gameday face. Lions fans. And yeah definitely not a nice guy. Nice guys finish last. Just win baby.
  8. Recently saw an fairly long interview a lady reporter did with him covering his coaching career and life philosophy. Quite different from his post game presser persona. If you suit up for him I'm sure you have no chance but to do things his way, but if you do that my impression is he probably treats his players right. I don't know if he's the GOAT but for sure he's fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Halas, Lombardi, Shula, Landry.
  9. Correction: Not NE. Still funny though. I remember DBs looking like that when Jason Peters would pull and lead block.
  10. Hmmm... Looks like tough guy Edelman thought twice before trying to tackle him lol
  11. If he can keep it up he will definitely be signing a big deal somewhere, hopefully with the Bills. He pretty much lined up as a nose in Oklahomas' 3/4 and was used mainly in early down/short yardage situations. He was highly effective in occupying OLinemen and keeping the linebackers clean. He was not asked to rush the passer but because he displayed surprising athleticism and agility for a man his size pro scouts were intrigued by the possibility that he could develop as a penetrating DT. Given the scheme he played in college it was assumed that it would take time before he would be able to do this, if it was going to happen at all. So he was drafted as a run stuffer with possible upside. Looks like the pass rush part of his game has come to fruition. That puts him firmly in the class of a featured defensive player. Size, strength, quickness, agility - he has all the talent needed to be a star so if he works at his game like a serious professional he should succeed. He needs to maintain proper technique - he sometimes has a high pad level when engaging offensive linemen, so not leveraging efficiently the power in his lower body. He is occasionally slow off the snap. When his technique suffers he can sort of disappear for a stretch. Vincent Taylor also looks to me like a guy who can play at a high level. Thank you Miami!
  12. Well I like him too of course. Amazing player and has been that way consistently since the day he stole the job from Matt Flynn, in other words since the day he first walked onto an NFL practice field.
  13. He needs to audible out of some of Daboll's play calls and let er rip. Seriously, I think he is learning to work the pocket but I see him as play action capable and would like a significant percentage of his shotgun snaps to be roll outs/moving pocket. Good way to leverage his athleticism without designed run calls, buy some time as a play develops and maybe better deal with man cover schemes. Not worried about DCs putting a spy on him. He's a good enuf athlete to usually beat most LBs, even good ones. I would also like to see a better deep ball. I'm sure he's got it in him.
  14. The point is that the Bills would not be taking much of a "chance" or risk in claiming Gordon, unless of course he was somehow a threat to the program, or should I say "process". And if a guy you could drop kick off your team at any time and for any reason is somehow a threat you need to avoid, then the structure is not very strong to begin with. Not putting a claim in on JG shouldn't be looked at in isolation. It's part of the bigger picture together with the team's inability to trade before the deadline. I'll admit to being disappointed to learn that the 49rs outbid the Bills for E. Sanders. You like Brown? Sanders has plenty left in the tank IMO and is probably a better WR. Speaking for myself, I derive little consolation from the thought that it's ok because the 49rs are a better team than the Bills. There was also something odd in McD's peculiarly aggressive if not gratuitously hostile reason for not making a trade. Dick J was really good with DBs too, but he was only half a head coach. I hope we're not headed in the same direction again. In fairness I think Dick's hands were maybe somewhat tied by ownership that was no longer even interested in being competitive. Beane and McD don't have that excuse.
  15. Passing on Gordon makes no sense to me. Very low risk/sunk cost (lower than Benjamin or Zay), high potential reward (higher than either one of those clowns). Hope this doesn't signal this administration's inability or unwillingness to try to work with talented players who require "special care". If so the talent pool may be limited. Good teams take chances on these types of players, and for a good reason, although in so doing they have different philosophies, approaches and methods: both Bill B and Pete Carrol do it, albeit in different ways. Honouring the process should not disguise a lack of self confidence or ability to manage personalities as volatile and diverse as you get on the typical NFL roster. Or maybe the McD culture is a lot more vulnerable than we have been led to believe. I'll watch with interest how Gordon makes out in Seattle. I think they just got better.
  16. To me this is a weak and unnecessary comment from McD. I agree with those who speculate he was probably still smarting from seeing his vaunted D get pretty much blown off the ball two games in a row.
  17. I would give him a C. But that's not surprising IMO given his youth and inexperience. So it doesn't mean that he can't improve,. Whether he will or not is right now anybody's guess. I'm optimistic but there are no guarantees. It's just too hard to project a college prospect at that position to the pros. It's pretty much a crap shoot. Something that concerns and puzzles me is the inaccuracy so far this year of his long ball. Missing them as badly and as frequently is a recent development. I don't understand what the reason for this might be. His short passing game, which has improved, used to be the problem. His long ball was always previously pretty decent.
