All true, and what what Brady’s leadership proves to me is what Allen’s leadership may produce as he matures. He too has the makings of a great leader and has done a lot to change the culture in Buffalo.

I thought he played very well. I picked the Bucs to win but I sure didn’t expect a blowout. In fact I was worried (because I also wanted them to win) that he might make a costly mistake. He can be accident prone at times now in his senior years, more so than before anyways. MVP is game specific and other Bucs could have won it IMO but observers close to the team say Brady single handedly took control after he arrived and changed the culture. If thats true he remains largely responsible for the win. They were pre-Bady talented but undisciplined.

It is possible of course that the injury did affect his play in marginal way. As Hapless has pointed out, Simms feels that it could have influenced play selection or the speed with which he was able to execute. Perhaps I should have said that whether it affected his play or not it did not IMO (or “speculation”, if you prefer to call it that) account for the fact that he was not successful. The absence of his tackles, Tod Bowles and the TB defence were the reason for that IMO. You have elsewhere made the point that a QB’s abilities might be impaired even in a game where he was playing extremely well. So in principle you accept that a QBs injury may have no bearing on the result, good or bad, in which case it is immaterial. I’m saying, or trying to say, that PMs turf toe had no appreciable effect on the result. The reasons for that were different (see above). I think that Philip Rivers loss to the Pats in 2007 (torn ACL) is a very good example of where QB injury might credibly had a major impact on the result. That was not the case yesterday IMO. Speaking of Rivers, I think he played the Bills playoff game with an injured toe. I think he played about as well as he could given where he’s at in his career and I don’t think it had any effect on that result either. Just my speculation of course.

Could well be. They are certainly more qualified than me to comment on that (especially Simms, who played the position). But some folks are of the view that they should not even be speculating/pretending to opine on that question. With that I disagree.

Sometimes it is abundantly, visibly and plainly evident that a player’s ability to perform has been compromised by injury - Beasely, Brown, Davis. All I’m saying is that IMO that was not the case with PM yesterday. He ran for 475 yards (albeit not north-south). Playing with pain does not always result in a significant deterioration of the level of play. I suspect that his problems yesterday had more to do with the absence of his LT and a very talented D implementing and equipped to execute a good gameplan.

It is a fact that he had the injury. It is to me an open question whether it significantly impaired his ability to perform. Did you see any visible evidence that the injury compromised his play? I didn’t is all I’m saying. When asked about it following the game he said it was the sort of thing players have to deal with and play through, especially late in the year.

Regarding PM’s turf toe I tried to focus on his footwork both running and in his throwing mechanics. I saw nothing to suggest that he was in any way significantly impaired by his injury. Mahomes was pretty much the same guy we are used to seeing. What yesterday’s game shows, and what we already know, is that no QB, not Mahomes or Allen or Brady can survive continuous jailbreaks (especially not Brady).

Hello Coach. I respectfully disagree. Unless there are factors interfering with the operation of a fair and open market, of which I think there are none in this case, agreement on equivalent value pretty much resolves the equities satisfactorily for all concerned. I don’t see how any of the constituencies you mention are well served if, for example, Watson sits out or is a malcontent, especially Houston’s management and fans. And if Watson goes to a team with lots of draft capital like Miami, the Dolphin immediately challenge the Bills for the AFCE title, and for the forseeable future. Haven’t checked their message board but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is sentiment in favour of a trade there. If what you say were true then people would never get divorced because, you know, the children. IMO sometimes everybody is best served by turning the page and starting over. Franchise QBs are very hard to find. But that just speaks to the compensation that would be required to achieve a fair deal.

JMO but while player/management controversies are interesting from different perspectives the bottom line here is that it is in the interests of both parties to resolve this by the Texans trading Watson to another team. To those who claim that you never trade a franchise quarterback I say that everything has a price and a true market value, including that QBs services.

I see everything through a Josh Allen progression/target value lens. If Tom Brady can beat Pat, Andy and the Chiefs it will strengthen my conviction that Josh Allen certainly can and eventually will. Like next year maybe. I don’t hate Brady, just see him as some kind of weird nurd/Goat contender combo. JMO but if I were drafting my all time dream team he would not be my pick for QB.

Bills have a good kicking game all round. Don’t mess with whats not broken. Already enuf holes to fill. Would like to see a bit more finesse from Bojo but he’s shown improvement and he certainly has the leg.

JMO but I think the Bucs are quite capable of both controlling the ball and also putting up points on KCs defence. I think they could win even a high scoring game. The Bucs D will not be the joke ours was either. PM and Andy will have their hands full.

True. And the Chiefs, not the Bucs, are the main competition (and therefore the enemy) going forward. I’m not normally all that partisan but the loss has left me with a taste for revenge, however its enacted and wherever it comes from. I dont blame them for beating us. I blame a very banged up receiving corps (nobody’s fault) and a bad gameplan on both sides of the ball (coaches” fault) that pretty much guaranteed that the more talented team overall would win. Regardless of sentiment, I think the Bucs will win unless Brady screws up. He’s still a very good QB but more accident prone than before. But he does, even in decline, bring more to the Bucs than Peyton did the Broncos, and Manning still got his ring.

Exactly. What I don’t understand tho is how McD and Frazier could have come up with such a stupid gameplan. They are both good and experienced coaches. They should not need to be schooled by anyone. When you are going against the best offence and QB in the league with multiple weapons, your best strategy is to do what you can to disrupt their execution with pressure even if you risk being burned. You absolutely have to play aggressively. Rushing 4 leaves Mahomes all the time he needs to pick you apart especially when you fail to play man against a player like Kelce and don’t selectively double cover him. Staying in zone is a lot like not covering him at all. Finding the seams/open areas is what he does. Simple pitch and catch all day long. Agree about the Bucs. And thats one reason why I think they will beat KC. If they lose it will be because Brady screws up.
