We've seen at different times and for lengthy intervals over the last few years the Chiefs playing their best, which, needless to say, is at a very high level. Bills performance has been spotier overall, even while generally continuing to progress. This is mainly because of Allen and where he's at in his development at any point in time. He is only now starting to come into the fullness of his talent. What the Bills are able to do will always be pretty closely correlated with his performance but as he continues to settle down I think we can look forward to seeing an offence that rivals or exceeds the best that we have seen in recent years from the Chiefs. It hasn't happened yet but I think before the end of this year we will see things fall into place.

With Gilmore, the Bills could go from competing for the championship to being favoured.

Raiders vs Chargers MNF Game thread

ok we don't have to go there and I respect your fanhood. But I can't help it I've just got to say that Josh's accuracy was very spotty, inconsistent, but for reasons that suggested it was correctible. Beyond his ability as a runner and appearance as a rare physical specimen, there was plenty of college tape of Josh making all the throws accurately. He just needed to do it more often. Thats why Beane wanted him so bad. Given the degree of difficulty of many of his throws, Allen is now one of the most accurate QBs in the league. -

Only his stat line was bad Allen's his first two years. If you actually watched him play you knew, or should have known, that Allen was a very special developing talent. Lots of posters on this board knew enuf football to see that, and they said as much (and not because they were homers). Not you I guess. Anybody can read a stat line. Seeing the value or lack thereof in a developing player is the hard part. As for saying that Herbert is going to be better than Allen, you are of course entitled to your opinion but I don't share it (though I like Herbert a lot). I wouldn't be too impressed with any silly thing Schefter said. To me Allen looks to have an even stronger arm, is more dangerous as a runner or as a passer outside the pocket, and offers the playcaller more options for gameplanning (which makes the O overall more difficult to contain). I could be dead wrong but those are my first impressions. -

To me there are many similarities between Allen and Herbert, each a monster QB, but probably as their careers progress we will begin to better see the differences. Although Herbert is said to go through his progressions with great speed, as a quick and dirty preliminary comment I get the impression that Allen has shown more ability to anticipate the likely development of live action as its happening. Its winds up being a timing and ball placement issue, both important components of accuracy, which is ironic given that accuracy was supposed to be Allen's achilles heal. Herbert of course is very accurate but I think he relies more on his and his receivers height/length to throw over smaller DBs from the pocket. I've never seen Herbert make a TD throw like Allen did to Diggs to the left corner of the end zone last year or the exact same throw he made to Sanders in the right corner of the end zone this year (at least I haven't seen it yet). This ability is most evident when Allen has to improvise off a broken play but its also a factor when throwing from the pocket or RPOs. So I think that Allen has shown more arm talent than Herbert so far but its early days and there isn't much to go on. I wouldn't be surprised if both of them surpass PM in time. -
His athleticism far exceeds Ertz's. Potentially I think he can be better than Goedert (who is good). He's made some great catches. If the drops are a thing of the past he will give the offence a significant boost from a position that has been lacking. Haven't really checked out his blocking this year.

Nows a good time to play and beat them. They will be a lot better on D later when they get healthy. Not saying we wont beat them later, just that Spags will have more to work with.

Yeah but I think all but one Hill connection (the last one) were underneath (for YAC agreed) and not over the top for huge yardage through the air (I was back and forth with Bills game). You are not likely to shut Hill down completely but maybe you can better bend and not break. Taking away the big quick gamebreaking plays is one key. I haven't checked the stat-line but I think the Eagles seemed to contain Kelce better than most teams do. And PM seems to have developed a bit of a penchant for making bad decisions. When the game was still up for grabs he threw a terrible pick when targeting Kelce. Eagles had 3 TDs called back. The game was surprisingly competitive. Hurts was a handful for that D. Allen and the Bills O will be a lot tougher. Hopefully Daboll has learned his lesson and comes with a good gameplan, playcalls and the right adjustments if needed. Do that and they will put up lots of production and points. Chiefs have been better than us but the gap is definitely narrowing. If the D has a good day, I'm pretty confident we win. We scored 40 points last week while not playing nearly to our potential on O.

From what I've been able to see both Fields and Jones are talented youngsters who have a good chance to be successful if brought along properly. Tua? IDK.

From what I saw of the Chiefs yesterday the Eagles did a very good job of shutting down the big plays. I think the only one they hit was with 2 mins left in the game with Eagles DBs pressing for a turnover. So drop into coverage and take your chances with Hilaire and their run game. Hurts constantly attacked the left side of the Chiefs D with consistent success. That D was not good at all three levels. The Eagles also had 3 TDs taken away by infractions I believe, at least one of them, the pick, being a very weak call IMO. If Josh and Daboll come with a good gameplan, patiently take what the defence is giving up using the diversity of their weapons, mixing in a few longer throws (Hurts made a few big plays in the passing game) they should be successful. The Chiefs D I saw yesterday would be no match.

Our long Cody Ford National Nightmare is over.
starrymessenger replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just looking at his pre-draft tape I was pretty sure he did not have the foot speed and agility to play tackle. But given his nasty and size I thought he might develop into a good guard and therefore not a bust. Turns out, perhaps not surprisingly, that some of the same things that compromise his ability in pass pro from the tackle position also affect his effectiveness in pass pro from the guard position. Back to the drawing board. I hope that they can still retool him as a guard. -
Chiefs defence is soft. They are physically overmatched by Goedert. If Knox has taken a step he could do well against them.

Whole left side of their D at all 3 levels has been awful.

Beth Mowins to call Bills-Texans

I do realize that its not the same defence and positional responsibility, but Devin White is being criticized by some and excoriated by others in TB because although everyone acknowledges that he is pretty much "doing his job" the "impact" plays have been noticeably lacking. I guess when a LB is taken top 5 something more is expected than basic fare. I wonder if Kueckly playing the same position as Tremaine in the same defence with a stud OLB next to him was as polarizing a figure in Carolina. Somehow I don't remember any of that.

Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
starrymessenger replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
I look at Tremaine and I see a linebacker specimen made in heaven for McD's D. A guy that big and tall, with that wing span, that fast, that agile etc...To me his physical ability allows him to play at a decent level and sometimes even well. Overall though to me he has underperformed expectations given his rare athleticism and going mid-first round. Sure he gets lots of tackles but not only does that come with the turf but he doesn't strike me as an especially sure tackler either. He's ok but I don't see him as great in coverage. And for a guy who should be a terror when blitzing I don't recall much in the way of production. Other posters see it quite differently. I'll be interested to see what the Bills do re an extension. -
Simms- "Buffalo is the best team in the AFC"

No guarantees, but the Bills do have the wherewithal to be the best team in the AFC barring injuries. -
Rookie Josh Allen vs Rookie Zach Wilson
starrymessenger replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wilson is talented (even though he looks like an adolescent) but he's a rook playing the most demanding position in all of professional sports. He doesn't have much of a run game and his o-line has been very bad, that big LT has looked terrible (maybe not all his fault). Jets are sure to stunt his growth but he will do well after he's traded to a better organization for a fifth rounder. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
starrymessenger replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Obviously as a Bills fan I too keep waiting for the light to come on. I hope I'm wrong but its looking more and more like what was flagged during the draft is a problem: all the physical ability in the world but no instincts, none, nulla, niente. He's adequate but he went middle of the first because of his potential, which really has not materialized. Milano was a fifth round pick and is a playmaker. Can you find/develop instincts for the game and positon? Can you improve your accuracy passing the football? I was always of the view that Allen would improve on his accuracy. The reason was that there was plenty of tape showing Allen making all kinds of throws with pinpoint accuracy. Consistency of his throwing mechanics and discipline is all that was required. In terms of what I've seen of his play, it doesn't look to me that Edmunds has anywhere near the same profile. He's a great kid and athlete and I still hope (wish) for a better outcome. If that happens I will be happy to accept whatever criticisms his supporters may have for the doubters. -
