Kansas City Chiefs @ Las Vegas Raiders 1/7/23 4:30pm
starrymessenger replied to T&C's topic in The Stadium Wall
You forgot - 2b) if all else fails refs lend a big helping hand (just ask Broncos). The Kansas City Thiefs. -
Not just crowning Russ right in front of a ref but the world's worse PI call on CS that completely changed the momentum. Chiefs are the new Patriots in that regard, especially at Arrowhead.

They can't win without the refs.

Has Taron Johnson injury severity been diagnosed?

Not the Gronk action, not at all. Just finishing through to the whistle (and not after the play, like Gronk). -
Has Taron Johnson injury severity been diagnosed?

Not a popular opinion no doubt, and I may be wrong, but I didn't think Hurst's action was a cheap shot. Johnson's injury seemed to happen on initial contact which was just a good block and looked to be a head trauma. I don't think Hurst passing over Johnson after that did any damage. I didn't see him kneeing Taron. Celebrating over a player that is down is not cool but I don't think he meant to be taunting an injured player. If I'm mistaken then somebody needs to make a note of his number and follow up maybe when he least expects it. That's how hockey works anyway. -
No way we are running straight into the teeth of that front. Play action passes over the middle intermediate depth. Greg Cosell says Knox is the man to watch. I think Diggs may have a big game.

Well you maybe don't make a living off of it but it's a nice thing to have. Mike Evans is a vertical threat who can make contested catches. Mike Williams doesn't just make contested catches. I sure had wishful visions of him in a Bills uni before he signed again with the Chargers. I wish Gabe Davis could win more contested passes (but it seems he can't). Its an important skill for outside receivers, especially the big ones who typically get less separation. And "making contested catches" is here a bit of shorthand for all of the skills that kind of receiver should have - the ability to use his length to win by high pointing the ball, the body control and physicality to box out DBs and, yes, strong hands. I would love to have George Pickens. There appear to be some quite good slot/power slot receivers in this draft (though that's not where the cream of this years class is). If any of them turns into an elite player of course you'd be overjoyed to have him (and regret having passed) and that position is also a need what with Beasley's absence, McK's inconsistencies, Crowder's injury and the teams reluctance to give Shakir a bigger role. Still if I had to choose between equally promising slot and big bodied vertical threats I'd go for the latter. Its just harder to find. I see the Bills taking a receiver later in the draft, and not before Rd 3 but probably later (unless they love a guy who falls).

Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson failing good for QB market.

Mahomes has three pro bowl O lineman. Josh Allen doesn't have that. -
Glazer reports Jets moving on from Wilson.

If memory serves in no way was Wilson a consensus can't miss prospect, not even close. Sure everybody loved his arm strength, ability to throw off platform, mobility and general athleticism. But he was also regarded as a risky boom or bust type prospect by many. I don't know what his coaches asked him to do but his weaknesses did not improve even in his one good year. And judging from his tenure in NY they probably can't be coached out of him. -
As I think they should. This is said to be a strong class IOL (O'Cyrus Torrance has been mocked to us in the first) while the WR group looks to be weaker than in recent years and mostly slot/power slot receiver types when what we need is a big bodied vertical outside guy who can make contested catches. Johnston would be the ideal pick but he's very unlikely to be there for us late in the first (assuming WR was the priority position of need for the Bills, which is not the case). Tillman likely won't be there when we pick in the third. He lacks Johnson's athleticism and speed but he could well develop into the Hodgins receiver type except much better (faster, stronger, more physical/aggressive). If the Bills want him it would have to be our second imo (if at all). Don't know that they go there.

Almost forgot (how could I). Darnold also had to deal with Adam Gase. Nuff said. -
Well maybe Baker needs a strong hand at HC but there can be no comparing him with Wilson. When it comes to QBing skills they are not in the same universe.

Darnold had neither the receivers or the run game (or defence) Wilson had. Things might have turned out better for him in NY. Wilson is a bust and is not fixable imo. -
Baker will have his suitors. Jets maybe?

Mt. Rushmore of busts. Is Wilson on it?
starrymessenger replied to Cson76's topic in The Stadium Wall
You have a point but in fairness to Douglas Wilson was a difficult evaluation. You have to like his arm strength and his mobility. And he can be pinpoint accurate if it's his primary read and even more so when the target is stationary. Thing is even in college he was unable consistently to lead his receivers, go through progressions and read a defence. He was typically late with his throws and would frequently put balls up for grabs. All things that we now see more clearly happening in the NFL where needless to say the game speed is a lot faster than in the Sun Belt. So I agree it was a dumb pick especially given that those are the types of weaknesses in a college QB that you are unlikely to be able to coach out of him. Lots of young prospects have died on that hill. -

You're right. My bad. He's not short (nor is he small at circa 214). He only looks (and plays) short and small. -

Tua played at Alabama in the SEC and he was good there. Zach had one good year against poor competition behind a very good offensive line. Zach is short. Some QBs can deal with that and still excel. With him it looks like it adds to his difficulty in seeing the field over nfl defensive linemen.. His mechanics are a mess and his accuracy is dreadful. He has no intangibles appeal and is hated by his teammates. I would not say he has all the skills. The mental component in him is entirely lacking. All he has is a live arm, which is good but probably the last thing you should bet the house on when evaluating a college QB. Probably some organization will think they can turn him around but I'd be skeptical. -

Don't forget Hackenburg. Second round pick. Mr. Irrelevant in SF way better QB prospect than Zach. Suggests Zach should probably have gone undrafted lol. Zach is what many feared Josh Allen was - a big arm and absolutely nothing else. Whatever gave Douglas the impression that a child could play the position in the NFL? Unimaginable drop off between #1 and #2 in Zach's draft year. After building a roster with some credible talent on both sides of the ball Jets will now have to mortgage their future as they look to trade for a veteran QB. -
Zach can't do what Josh Allen do. So he shouldn't even try to do those things. Now #2 Zach is about to be embarrassed by #1 Trevor.

Kurt Warner Breakdown of Josh Allen in the Miami Game
starrymessenger replied to JohnRVA's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dont think Allen is less cerebral than Tua, or even Warner for that matter. I've too often seen him make the right read and execute properly (though more so last year) to believe that. He's also quite capable of getting the ball out fast when he wants to. If he declines an easy lay up for a lower percentage chunk yardage option it's not because he doesn't understand or because he's limited in his ability to read and react. Its because he's Josh Allen and his blood is up. Josh Allen can do things probably no other QB can do because of his transcendent physical ability. I think he could roll to his right and complete a go route down the opposite side. I'm all for his using his physical skills to greatest advantage but I've got this feeling that playing Pop Warner hero ball is not what you want as regular fare and that it could catch up to you, maybe at the least opportune moment. Take the layups. Try to turn broken plays into game changers only when you have to i.e. when the called plays are unavailable. I want Josh to have an even better career than Brett did and I think he can probably do that (with some help from his friends). Speaking of his friends, I take Kurt's point regarding the Bills WRs running poor routes. It's something other game day commenters have properly noted as well as some posters. Too often two receivers in close proximity. Can't imagine that's how those plays were meant to run.
