WGR speculating the Bills will make a trade
starrymessenger replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah I don't very much like Rudolph but I think he's probably less accident prone than Kyle. Not saying much unfortunately. -

Defender got his had on the ball. First one was a drop. -
Renewed my subscription yesterday. Took the 1 year 19.99 per month option. Regret that I missed this thread when posted. Product now is annoying to watch with repetitive DAZN adverts and obnoxious soundtrack. Interestingly last year Thursday night football was carried live on RDS Quebec. Wonder if it will be this year.

O’Cyrus Torrence Dominating (video breakdown)
starrymessenger replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Torrance looks to have great instincts for playing the position. He's also a good technician with a good head that has clearly taken well to the coaching he has received. Can't imagine him playing tackle. Right now his footwork is good except that he could benefit from having more foot speed. If he is vulnerable to outside speed rushers playing the guard position.....And we haven't yet seen him pull and lead block at the second level, where again foot speed is important (he can pull effectively to help out on the left side of the line). The good news is that once he gets his hands on you the rep is over. He's unbeatable inside. Hes going to be a starter at guard for a long time. He's a rook and the League is a big step up in the level of competition. He looks like the kind of player who just gets better. -
What Allen was able to accomplish is rare, maybe even unprecedented. And clearly not all supremely talented youngsters make it, especially when it comes to playing the all important position. I wouldn't call it an opinion because I haven't done more than see from a distance a little of his game tape, highlights, pre-draft film studies. But my impression is that he looks a carbon copy of Josh Allen at the time Allen came into the league. They have the same physical attributes. They have a similar developmental history, which is to say that they are totally green lacking the prep that first round QBs have normally enjoyed. What's more, the things that require work are again exactly the same, notably mechanics/footwork when the question is accuracy passing the football, developing touch etc... An important similarity is that the tape shows that both are capable of executing properly, making the right reads, and accurately throwing the football with good mechanics - as with Josh the hope is that with coaching and hard work his game can find the level of consistency needed to succeed. Allen's incredible athleticism puts him a cut above the competition from the get go. It's an essential attribute. It bought him time to learn the position. Richardson has that. Richardson is reputed to have a good head on his shoulders. We'll see how it works out.

He will be great...if he can read a defence.

Has Miami really closed the gap?
starrymessenger replied to billsbackto81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure. AR is an all time great. Tua is more likely a marginal bit player by comparison. But as others have noted it will be interesting to see how a 39 year old Aaron makes out behind that O-line. -

Nothing personal (seems like an ok guy) but I have little faith in Tua. I doubt that he stays healthy enuf to play a full season. And while he has weapons I don't think he can consistently make the best use of them. Just not on the same level as his supporting cast. I think he's accident prone both physically and as a playmaker. Imo both the Jets and the Finns are at far greater risk of having their seasons implode than the Bills. -
I think you are right. His supposed skillset is a close comparable to Hines so Beane seems to be looking at him as a potential replacement rather than just a camp body filling out the RB room. So I think he's being given an opportunity and we will just have to see if he's capable of doing anything with it.

Jets are releasing WR Denzel Mims if they can't trade him.
starrymessenger replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure plus Shorter is a humble kid with a good attitude. I'm hoping he can develop. -

I hope I'm wrong but Justin Shorter reminds me a bit of him. -
To me its really just a cost benefit analysis. At what point does what an elite receiver brings to the table become secondary to the disturbance he may be to the locker room and to the concerted team effort needed to win a championship. Otherwise any QB is better off with more rather than less accomplished receivers, and many elite receivers are not known to be troublemakers. Mahomes has proven that his performance was in no way dependent upon Hill. But the Chiefs invested in his O-line, he has Andy Reid and had EB, and his receiving corps and support from the run game was better overall than what Allen has had. Allen needs to be surrounded by better talent not lesser talent. He already shoulders too much of the load.

Media predictions for the AFC East
starrymessenger replied to newcam2012's topic in The Stadium Wall
Division title would be nice but as long as we make the playoffs (which we will) I'd much rather they were at the top of their game in December than peaking in September. There are lots of new pieces so I expect that it will take awhile for the parts to mesh and I'm fine with that. -
Yeah as bad as tackling gets.
-
You are right to not take away the 81 yard run. I wish our poor tackling D had been able to do that. Even franchise backs get stuffed a lot. It's when they break games open that you realize why they are special.

I'm very impressed with Beane's off-season moves. With little cap room to manoeuvre he seems to have improved the roster significantly where upgrades were needed. Proof will be in the pudding but all looks very good on paper. Now the coaches need to make it work. Pressure is on them. Floyd is a good signing. Not only has he developed as a pass rusher but he's always been good against the run and if memory serves he's not bad in coverage either in a pinch.

I'm not sure that catching shallow screens outside or around the hash marks and running with it are the best test of a WR's hands. Zay had a healthy dose of that in college. Sammy Watkins too if I remember correctly.

2023 Buffalo Bills Overall Draft Grade
starrymessenger replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well he may be a small TE but he's a very big receiver. TBH I wanted Addison but Kincaid is not just a consolation prize. He's a stand alone premium pick. He should be very impactful in the passing game, just in a different way than a WR 2. I take it that your displeasure with the Torrance pick is more scheme related than based on a want of skill. But although Gator's O-line was big and aggressive Napier's scheme is not a pure power/gap system. His is a spread offence that is replete with zone concepts. In Torrance's case that admittedly probably means more inside rather than outside zone, but the player is no doubt completely familiar with zone concepts. And while the Gators were run first they did that to set up the pass and I think when you consider suitability you have also to take into consideration that we are now looking at a Bills offence that will be doing a lot more running on early downs than they did last year. Torrance will be completely familiar with that approach as well. And with regard to blocking in the passing game looks to me like Torrance will be very effective in stabilizing the pocket for Josh. One question that I have is how well and how quickly will Josh drive his new offence. It will require some adjustment to his hair on fire approach to things.
