Laporte is a very reliable receiver who will convert third downs all day long. He can hit the seams as well. He was the fastest TE at the Combine (4.59). His other results were also for the most part good. Just looking at the highlights from his years at Iowa I don't see much YAC however (he's not Kittle) and he is a below average blocker. He looks to me to be a guy who will play for a long time in the league but personally I'd prefer a more well rounded skillset. But if he's there and they take him in the second round I certainly would not be upset. He's good.

Missed a lot of time last year but no question if healthy (and always was before 2022) he would be a great complement to Hines and Cook. Thinking is that 2 years 3 million per would get it done. If so and if I'm Beane I should be interested imo. Prior to last year he was one of the premier power backs in the league and his 2022 injuries were not of the chronic variety. If he had put up the same numbers last year as he did before no doubt he'd still be a Patriot. Or he'd be a lot more expensive in FA.

I'd be talking to Denver about them having interest in a DT. I think they have the most need and Jeudy would be the target though we would have to top up our offer with a (late round?) pick. I keep hearing conflicting accounts on whether Broncos are interested in moving the receiver. Broncos opening position is a first. At least the Pats are out of the running now but still 3 or 4 teams with interest.

Bernard vs Dodson: Tale of the Tape
starrymessenger replied to TheyCallMeAndy's topic in The Stadium Wall
He’s slow without the weight (based on what little we saw of him last year). -
He was terrible in pass pro last year. His pass blocking grade was like 8 points lower than Spencer Brown's who was himself a turnstile in protecting Josh.

Hope so.

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
starrymessenger replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree. But he's not playing this year for 32MM. Ravens will either top him up or he sits out. This will just get messier and even more ridiculous I'm afraid. -
If you want a complete TE or Dalton Kincaid, who is a great receiver.

There is a 6'8" TE in the draft that I'd like better. There are at least two other TEs (consensus #s 1 and 2) who would do a lot more in developing plays for two TE sets. I hope we are not being set up for an all-D draft.

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract

There's a chance/risk that a team signing Lamar will have to give up more than money, lots of it, and picks even assuming he stays healthy season long. Are people completely satisfied that Lamar can operate in a different, perhaps more pass heavy offence, or is he more scheme specific? The offence he has been running was designed with his unique skill set in mind by an acknowledged master. Perhaps this was the best way to maximize his performance and production. Clearly the Ravens thought so. So does his new team either immediately or in the future have to restructure their offence to best accommodate Lamar and give him the best chance to be successful? Many HCs/OCs would be reluctant to do this. Lamar probably wants the opportunity to show that he can run a more "normal" up to date nfl offense. Thing is though people have had questions, rightly or wrongly, about his arm strength and, perhaps more importantly, his processing and decision making. I can't myself have a view on this because I don't see him enough but I just wonder if this might be an additional hurdle teams feel they have to clear and get comfortable with before making him an offer. -
People familiar with the player are unanimous in saying that he is a well below average run blocker in any kind of power scheme such as they use in Dallas. Absolutely not a people mover. Based on (what little) tape I've seen of him I think he can be a satisfactory contributor zone blocking in a scheme that emphasizes speed, mobility, anthleticism and resulting spread concepts. If, as I hope, we land a power back to complement what we've got in Cook and Hynes the bigger back can run behind Bates on the left side of the line. If given the scheme McGovern can grade out as average in the run game and well above average in pass pro the Bills will have done well in signing him. Interestingly when the Boys were looking for ways to use him he was very effective lining up as a H-back. Maybe he could be our short yardage specialist lol.

Well maybe there has been too much under the bridge at this point, but I tend to think the Ravens have acted professionally throughout and shown abundance of respect. Sorry but to me this is on Lamar. I truly regret this mess because I think Lamar has probably worsened his situation and to all accounts he's not only a unique talent but a great guy. -

But I do drag him for not being on the sidelines with his teammates during the playoff game. -

If that's true I wonder why he would refuse at least entering into a negotiation. It would have been normal and prudent to do so. -

Well what I meant to say was that after his third year he was potentially looking at waiting two years for a new contract (if the Ravens extended). That's when agents start agitating for a new contract assuming they are representing talents like Lamar. -

I know. Makes no sense to me. And if/when he starts receiving offers who is going to go through and vet a lengthy and complicated legal document. Lamar? -

Thank you. You are right. So let me ask you this. After his third year (and his MVP) why wouldn't any agent have insisted that he not play the remaining two years of his rookie deal and risk injury that might preclude a second contract. When did Josh's new contract get done. Kyler Murray? -

I don't see where Lamar is being valued less than those guys. At 133 MM fully guaranteed for three years (though he apparently wanted a longer term, more money, and more money guaranteed) he'd be making more annually and have more guaranteed money, all of which I would think is appropriate. Lamar's legitimate play was to ask for a new contract heading into his third year after he won MVP. I don't understand why his agent wasn't jumping up and down. Oh wait... Apparently a great guy but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. -

And should he be cheered for not even being on the sidelines in the playoff game when the backup who hero worships him and was banged up himself had to play? Oh, maybe as many as six or seven teams may talk to him. It's just that they may well not feel that it's in their best interests to meet his demands. -

How are they blackballing Lamar if the owners have legitimate business reasons for not giving him the contract he wants? I mean maybe they just don't think he's worth that. If Lamar's camp starts alleging collusion, it will not be a good look imo. Just sour grapes. -

I wonder what happens when later this afternoon nobody beats a path to his door ready to give him whatever he wants. So maybe he signs the franchise tag and stays in Baltimore. I don't think sitting out the year is in his best interests. I think maybe his MVP went to his head.
