Has Miami really closed the gap?
starrymessenger replied to billsbackto81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nothing personal (seems like an ok guy) but I have little faith in Tua. I doubt that he stays healthy enuf to play a full season. And while he has weapons I don't think he can consistently make the best use of them. Just not on the same level as his supporting cast. I think he's accident prone both physically and as a playmaker. Imo both the Jets and the Finns are at far greater risk of having their seasons implode than the Bills. -
I think you are right. His supposed skillset is a close comparable to Hines so Beane seems to be looking at him as a potential replacement rather than just a camp body filling out the RB room. So I think he's being given an opportunity and we will just have to see if he's capable of doing anything with it.

Jets are releasing WR Denzel Mims if they can't trade him.

Sure plus Shorter is a humble kid with a good attitude. I'm hoping he can develop. -

I hope I'm wrong but Justin Shorter reminds me a bit of him. -
To me its really just a cost benefit analysis. At what point does what an elite receiver brings to the table become secondary to the disturbance he may be to the locker room and to the concerted team effort needed to win a championship. Otherwise any QB is better off with more rather than less accomplished receivers, and many elite receivers are not known to be troublemakers. Mahomes has proven that his performance was in no way dependent upon Hill. But the Chiefs invested in his O-line, he has Andy Reid and had EB, and his receiving corps and support from the run game was better overall than what Allen has had. Allen needs to be surrounded by better talent not lesser talent. He already shoulders too much of the load.

Media predictions for the AFC East
starrymessenger replied to newcam2012's topic in The Stadium Wall
Division title would be nice but as long as we make the playoffs (which we will) I'd much rather they were at the top of their game in December than peaking in September. There are lots of new pieces so I expect that it will take awhile for the parts to mesh and I'm fine with that. -
Yeah as bad as tackling gets.
-
You are right to not take away the 81 yard run. I wish our poor tackling D had been able to do that. Even franchise backs get stuffed a lot. It's when they break games open that you realize why they are special.

I'm very impressed with Beane's off-season moves. With little cap room to manoeuvre he seems to have improved the roster significantly where upgrades were needed. Proof will be in the pudding but all looks very good on paper. Now the coaches need to make it work. Pressure is on them. Floyd is a good signing. Not only has he developed as a pass rusher but he's always been good against the run and if memory serves he's not bad in coverage either in a pinch.

I'm not sure that catching shallow screens outside or around the hash marks and running with it are the best test of a WR's hands. Zay had a healthy dose of that in college. Sammy Watkins too if I remember correctly.

2023 Buffalo Bills Overall Draft Grade
starrymessenger replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well he may be a small TE but he's a very big receiver. TBH I wanted Addison but Kincaid is not just a consolation prize. He's a stand alone premium pick. He should be very impactful in the passing game, just in a different way than a WR 2. I take it that your displeasure with the Torrance pick is more scheme related than based on a want of skill. But although Gator's O-line was big and aggressive Napier's scheme is not a pure power/gap system. His is a spread offence that is replete with zone concepts. In Torrance's case that admittedly probably means more inside rather than outside zone, but the player is no doubt completely familiar with zone concepts. And while the Gators were run first they did that to set up the pass and I think when you consider suitability you have also to take into consideration that we are now looking at a Bills offence that will be doing a lot more running on early downs than they did last year. Torrance will be completely familiar with that approach as well. And with regard to blocking in the passing game looks to me like Torrance will be very effective in stabilizing the pocket for Josh. One question that I have is how well and how quickly will Josh drive his new offence. It will require some adjustment to his hair on fire approach to things. -
2023 Buffalo Bills Overall Draft Grade
starrymessenger replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Must say I've been very impressed with Beane and the whole front office this off-season. They have clearly taken stock of what transpired the last couple of years and have correctly decided to change, or perhaps modify is the better word, their approach on both sides of the ball. I expect greater diversification and less predictability even in schemes they run. To me Beane has pretty much done everything right and he's looking like a top GM imo. He didn't have a top 5 player fall into his lap much later like the guy in Philly did. He did as well as he could given what was available and his draft position and really seems to have exceeded expectations. There seems to be a good understanding of what needed to be done and a coherent plan has taken shape. I'm especially impressed with his stock piling picks for next years draft. We can use those to move up for Marvin Harrison JR (I wish). Beane has done and continues to do his job. The ball is now pretty much in the coaches hands. How they wind up performing this coming year will have everything to do with how they are perceived, especially the OC imo. Not that I think this will be easy. What I'm hoping to see is gradual improvement as the players execute their assignments and peaking as we enter the playoffs (hopefully). Their first two picks should be exceptional starters. -
All things considered, including the draft class and draft positioning it looks to me like the Bills had a very good draft. I really like Beane thinking ahead and picking up extra picks in 2024. Something to use when we trade up for Marvin Harrison's boy next year.

RD 5, Pick 150: WR Justin Shorter, Florida
starrymessenger replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this guy was a good route runner he'd be a first round pick. No quick breaks, tempo variance etc...Wonder if it is coachable in his case or maybe he just can't do it. Didn't perform the agility drills at the Combine. Wonder why. Hamstring? -
All true what Chris said except Kincaid is not bigger than Kelce.

RD 5, Pick 150: WR Justin Shorter, Florida
starrymessenger replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah. Agility is the main rub in this guys case. Wonder if he will ever be a decent route runner. No suddenness or change of tempo. Ok I guess for a fifth round need selection. He's headed to the PS imo. -
RD 2, Pick 59: G O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida
starrymessenger replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah re scheme I feel that his alleged lack of mobility has been exaggerated a bit. There are examples of him showing sufficient quickness pulling and even to the second level and very good field awareness with the Gators. He will never be Jerry Kramer and it's also fair to wonder how he will fare in pass pro against some of the great speed rushing DEs and 3 techs he will now be facing but I too will be interested to see what Kromer is able to do with him. All rooks face à learning curve. As a prospect the guy was a steal where we got him. -

When he gets his hands on you rep is over. Not the best fit scheme wise but a huge upgrade to the OG position nevertheless. -
RD 3, Pick 91: LB Dorian Williams, Tulane
starrymessenger replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought one of the weaknesses/areas for improvement was sometimes slow getting to the spot because processing. He can run with TEs but needs to improve processing/recognition. Hes an interesting player and not a bad pick all things considered. -
Looks like his dog died.
-
Ball skills, body control, hands. All NFL caliber.

YES!!!!!!

Agreed.

I wanted Addison before I saw his suit.
