I am very wary of making claims and predictions concerning the pro career of any college athlete, but I subscribe to the (still minority) thinking that Luck is not just the legit # 1, but very possibly a once in a decade type of talent at that all important position and one that nobody can pass on.

I like CJ too. He looks like a really great kid and frankly I'm glad he got paid - if he turns out not to be great investment, thats on the FO because CJs got great attitude and I'm sure is willing to learn and improve. The problem I have, in addition to the oft cited "lack of vision" and "failure to adjust to the pro game" is the lack of burst, for a guy who was supposed to be all about burst. You see it especially on kick off returns, where he should excel. He seems somewhat tentative and I just don't see the explosion you have in good return guys (who are often not high draft choices). That is probably what worries me most. He is not the most dangerous return man on this team. Leodis is. Trouble is Leodis is as dangerous to the Bills as to the opposition. McGee was also better (so far at least) in his day.

Actually the reason he is so good is because he is pretty big (6'1", 215 is not a small back), pretty strong (consistently breaks tackles and gets the extra yards) and fast enough (witness his long run vs the Bengals if memory serves).

The fact that Plunkett was drafted #1 overall is really beside the point. His career had many low points, and this had to do with his play. Rob Woodson disagrees with you. He says, as good as they were defensively, the Ravens owed a lot to Dilfer for their Super Bowl season. Bill Belichik and Bill Parcells both speak glowingly of Hostetler, and for a reason. The point is that a QB with a certain skill set and mind set, though with less than HOF credentials, can do enough to help his team win a Superbowl. Fitz is that kind of QB.

QBs with very apparent deficiencies to their game have led teams to Super Bowl victories: Jim Plunkett, Jeff Hoststler (remember him Bills fans), Trent Dilfer. You can win without a HOF QB. With a better supporting cast on both sides of the ball, and a few breaks that every Super Bowl team must benefit from, RF could lead the Bills to a Super Bowl. Not saying that this will happen of course, but it is clearly within the realm of the possible. Not saying either that a HOF QB wouldn't be nice. Just pointing out that it is not necessary.

Football is not baseball. If you stop playing hard you expose yourself to injury or you detract from the execution you need in tougher games. Even then, I doubt Pete Rose, and ballplayers like him would agree with your baseball comment generally. Again football is not baseball - when Brady lines up under centre he is facing 11 guys who literally want to kill him, and some of them are quite capable of doing it. His revenge, and his vindication is to beat them like a rented mule. Bear in mind too that when he does that he is setting himself up for more hate and more aggression. Let him stir the pot, it sells tickets and makes the game of football more interesting. He is the bad guy wrestler we all love to hate.
