I dont think it takes much with this regime, especially now after the Diggs fiasco. A usually credible source told me Pickens was off their board.

I’ve seen the random alleged lack of consistent effort on film. And you do sort of come away thinking that given his obvious natural gifts he should be better than he has shown eg blocking, YAC, taking plays off, running routes at half-speed etc… If thats all there is I would definitely still be all in unless there is something more serious that signals a serious lack of maturity and discipline that would adversely impact coachability (because he needs a lot of coaching). If the concerns are backed up with anything credible he is off the Bills board. George Pickens fell in the second partly because of alleged character issues. I hope we aren’t over reacting.

Unquestionably a first round talent imo. Character and consistent effort are the alleged issues. I have no idea whether these concerns are legit but many appear to be taking them seriously.

What they did was the exact opposite of what Einstein would do if he was GM.

I think Beane is playing a masterful hand so far (now that I've calmed down). If he hits with his strategy he will solidify his cred as one of the League's best.

If you are going to move up why not go all the way. Don't just move up for a guy with great traits and lots to prove (BTJ, AD), move up for the guy who, absent injury, is pretty much guaranteed to be a great pro.

They are both great prospects. Odunze has had the opportunity to show much more than Thomas (probably because of Nabers). In terms of demonstrated ability and risk mitigation. Odunze is a significantly better prospect. He’s just not a raw talent, however impressive.. He’s a superb and refined technician who instinctively knows how to play the position. At the combine he showed, for those who didn’t already know it, that he is a mature young man and a very coachable player. He absolutely belongs in the first group with the other two.

To me, Odunze and Nabers are as bust proof as MHJ. That's an easy call imo. What's more difficult is to speculate on which one will be a better pro. I think Odunze could possibly transition the best of the three, though all should be great.

Jones is prolly a HOF guy, but Cleveland, being Cleveland, made a complete mess of the picks they got. As for the thread's proposal, nah, I wouldn't do it. Too rich for my blood.

Well Thomas was hardly going to be the Tigers #1 with Nabers there. I think that's part of the reason his route tree for now is pretty much limited to verticals. I think that he can develop into a receiving threat at all levels if that's what his eventual team wants. Like A. Mitchell, who I like a lot, there is the scent of boom or bust in the air around both of them. Regardless both are outstanding prospects, the kind that get picked in the first round. Neither is in the same class as the top three. That's especially obvious when they are compared with Odunze, who is the best technician and, like the other two guys, almost certain to be a great pro. Worthy is a better receiver than he often gets credit for but at 165 lbs no way. Can he get up to 180? Idk. Major risk, even if he can. But if he's DeSean Jackson...but those guys are incredibly rare. It's still a big man's game. While many are in favour, and with reason, I too would not favour wrecking our draft(s) to move up the way we would have to if we targeted any one of the top three (upon reflection). Imo you do that sort of thing for a QB. One outcome I could live with would be a modest move up for Thomas or Mitchell (but not affecting # 60). Otherwise forget it. Stand pat or move back. I too could see the Bills opting for an edge or D-lineman with the first pick. Would be nice if they could still nab that player after moving down from 28 (there may be more than 1 target). If they get a third, they could maybe then use it to move up from 60 for one of the best remaining receivers, Javon Baker maybe or one of Leggett, Coleman or McConkey if you think you can move up enuf. They can maybe also draft a developmental X receiver type late in the draft. There are some with promising traits/athleticism. Or they can perhaps trade for Aiyuk and pay him 80 million over the next three years. No easy path here that I can see.

I think Estime is a realistic option. He is a bull with burst (if not long speed). Had a lousy combine and will likely drop in the draft. Fourth or fifth maybe.

I think Beane will now try to move up for one of the top four receivers (I include Thomas). Maybe you don't have to wreck your draft to nab one of them. They are all worth a move up so there is no need to focus only on Nabors. Mitchell would be worth a smaller move up if a deal can't be made for one of the others and they are off the board.

Odunze too is well worth a big trade up imo. His physical ability is matched by outstanding intangibles. So important to evaluations. So I think there are three and possibly four (Thomas) legit targets for a Josh Allen type move up. Quite possibly one or perhaps a couple of the four drop a bit below what is expected just based on how the board falls out. All of that would support a big move up because the strategy would have a very good chance of producing a positive result. After all the four, all of them, project as nothing less than elite at the next level and rookie year #1s. I think Beane is seriously considering it. I think I would.

Allen's long ball accuracy is indeed spotty. He can do better. Get him the right receiver(s) and imo his accuracy will improve. You have to make productive use of that arm. Of course bombs are fun but they are in any event low completion playcalls. The credible threat to take the top off at any time can however do a lot for your O underneath.

I too would love RO. And I do think the Bills draft two good prospects at the WR position. I fear they may well have to move up in the first but I see it more for Thomas or Mitchell, not one of the top three. Given other needs I don't see them picking another one until later in the draft, fourth or fifth round perhaps.

I wish. I'd do it in a heartbeat but doubt we can move up enuf to land that guy. The class is very good but the top three are really not only in a different class but in a different universe than any of the others in terms of demonstrated ability. Almost inconceivable that they bust or seriously underperform. Thomas and AD Mitchell are next best imo but even if not quite boom or bust they are largely trait based picks at this point with an awful lot to learn if they are going to realize their potential at the next level. They could also use a little luck in terms of landing spots. Buffalo should be good but this coaching staff also still needs to prove that they can develop a true #1 receiver. Rome O is almost.certainly going to be a great pro. I doubt we even get to sniff him.

They needed a top NFL wideout who could hit the ground running. And their strategy did pay dividends. Word has it, and I believe it, that they were all in on Addison last year and would have selected him with their first pick. If so, their evaluation of a first round talent was spot on.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of taking WRs with our first 2 picks (however we get there) depending who still is on the board in the second and how much it might cost to move up. Don't see it as a real possibility though given other needs.

I doubt that any receiver seriously projected as a potential pick at 28 would still be on the board at 60. OTOH outside of the top three, Mitchell and Thomas, given the depth of the class, I would trade back if all are gone when we pick.

I guess it partly depends on what the plan is exactly. If all the Bills are looking for is to complete their weaponry with a vertical threat they can probably find a raw speedster with some demonstrated receiving ability in later rounds. The class is deep. If instead they are looking for a player to develop into a #1 to take over from Diggs they would be best taking him at 28 or indeed possibly even sooner should the suitable opportunity arise.
