It was a tough decision mostly on a human, not on a football basis. It had to be done. It nevertheless took courage and it was assuredly an unpleasant, though necessary, thing to do. And apparently there may well have been some disagreement on the matter as between Marrone and the FO. Getting Kolb so that EJ can learn was not the problem. Drafting him at all, certainly where they did, was the problem. If a vet was going to play in 2013 anyway the thing to do is wait until 2014 to get your guy. I don't know about you but I would rather have another one of the good young wideouts from last years draft, Teddy Bridgewater, and still have my 2015 first rounder than have EJ and Sammy and no first rounder. The Bills don't know QBs They just don't. Whaley gets a big FAIL on that issue.

Nope. As far as the whole EJ saga is concerned Whaley and probably Brandon (who presumably signed off on Sammy) look bad. They look very bad. And of course it's not just EJ. It's the whole QB disaster. Their ability to assess talent at this position has been 100% amateurish.

Maybe, but it is also true that most if not all good QBs have that FU attitude. Nobody is going to be challenging his authority on this young team. He just needs to get along with Fred. He's the boss and it's now up to him to prove he's the next Rich Gannon. Go Thoatbeard!

Actually age wise Orton should be entering the prime of his career. He's younger than Ben, Philip Rivers, a lot younger than Eli and only a year older than Eli. Maybe this will be his opportunity to prove he is legit as a genuine starting QB in this league. There is a chance his career will blossom in Buffalo. Certainly the table is pretty much set, so this is a golden opportunity for him. Everyone knows he is capable of playing well. The question is can he do it consistently throughout an entire season (and playoffs of course). Time will tell. Correction: that should be only a year older than Aaron Rodgers.

Brady is old and he is starting to look his age. He is also going to take a physical beating this year. Old men don't absorb physical punishment all that well. If the Pats season starts to turn really sour-which is possible-expect to see JG under centre before the year is out.

My impression was that the majority thought it was a bad/wrong football decision. But the talking heads are usually somewhat behind the times for some reason. They probably all picked the Pats last night.

I'd rather take my chances with the rook. I think Fauria might have had a good day next Sunday. BTW just can't stand the fact that other teams (Lions, Giants, Tampa Bay) seem to find good TE undrafted or late round selections. Wish we could do that.

I'd rather have Benjamin, Bridgewater and 2015 first than Watkins. And I think Sammy will be a great player.

It's all just retrospective analysis but they would have been better off waiting a year and bridging with a vet, as they had already planned to do anyway with Kolb.

I confess I don't know what to make of Whaley. To me he is one of these people who are quite capable of being at the same time very good and very bad.

Pats badly lost the battles in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I knew they were having O-line problems but I thought there D was going to be pretty solid. Chiefs RBs obviously had a great day but they also got incredible holes to run through and consistently at that. Is the Chiefs O line really that good or are the Pats really that bad.

I respect Marrone for taking this decision. It was the right thing to do but I'm sure it was not easy for him. Gives me some hope that he might be the right guy for a difficult job after all, despite his mind boggling pressers.

What you evaluate in looking at players is their ability to perform. It's a bottom line driven objective inquiry that is not and should not be personal. And the bottom line is that neither one of those guys can play the position well at this level of competition (even if they are both great as people).
