I agree. I don't think I'd want to see him on the sidelines in game, but I find the idea of using him in the senior position re football ops quite interesting. The Bills are I think lucky to have the ownership now that they do, but the Pegs are not experienced in this business and must be perplexed by all of the infighting going on between the FO and coaching and maybe wondering where the problems really are. Best way to manage that is to have an experienced hand directing both the FO and the coaching (and other aspects of football ops, such as, notably, scouting) and giving the owners their views, reasons and recommendations.Plus TC has family (kids and grandkids in the area) and would likely be at home in Buffalo.

JW was considered, probably with reason, to be the best prospect for playing the position since Luck, and by many to be an almost equivalent talent. Hard to pass on a guy like that if you have a chance of landing him. Glennon may not be the answer but he seems to have the makings of a legit NFL passer. I'd gladly trade Tyrod's 400 yards or so rushing for a guy who can make the basic throws with some consistency. If opposing Ds had to seriously defend the pass our excellent run game would still be there and would quite possibly make up Taylor's run yardage. Adding a credible passing attack could turn the O into a pretty fearsome weapon. And I am in agreement that our WRs and TEs are actually not that bad and that their production could improve significantly if we had a passing game.

He reminds me a lot of Ryan Mallett. Texans should have known better.

But should his contract be fully guaranteed in case of injury? Surely an allocation of the risk and associated costs (including opportunity costs) would be more reasonable, especially when what the player really has is a one year tryout as a precondition to a committment for longer term. Mind you I dont have a problem with it either. The fans and the owners will still be there long after the player's career is over.

And regardless the guarantee is inconsistent with a deal structured to give the team an out if they are not satified with the results of the audition. Besides a new coach and front office maybe Pegs also needs a new lawyer. You know, one that remembers to put a substance abuse and suspension clause in Big Stuffs 100 MM deal or doesn't give Marrone 4MM to walk (though I was happy to see him go).

Could well be. Whats more at his age and in his condition I'm sure he would just love foregoing a dome and playing in brutal winter weather come December/January.

I don't know that we should look for WRs based on the need to accommodate the weaknesses of our QB. We overpaid for Sammy partly because Whaley thought the short passing game and YAC that Sammy excelled at when at Clemson would help overcome EJs Problems. It didn't work. There is sufficient doubt about Tyrods aptitude that you want to think twice about structuring your whole O around him. Also Tyrod has had good sized targets and been unable to make productive use of them consistently. It's on him IMO. Bills have squandered 3rd round picks on fast little guys who really aren't any good or good enuf. Why not spend a third on the real deal? Thing is NO will be looking for more than a third. He helps their O a lot even when he is not targeted. I agree that he might not be happy coming to the worst passing O in the NFL, unless he sees a role for himself. He wants targets because he wants to be paid in two or three years. Kid is ambitious and believes in himself. I don't have a problem with that.

As long as we are not eliminated from post season play you have to go with the experienced hand (Tyrod) obviously. If/when we are eliminated and assuming Tyrod fails to improve I would start Cardale. That is unlikely to happen though because they need to give Tyrod his shot and given his contractual situation the more they see of him the better. I expect that even if his performance continues to flatline, Rex will back him to Pegs and Whaley. I defer to posters who closely follow Ohio State so there is little doubt that Cardale is raw and has big holes in his game. He looks to me to have a pretty good head on his shoulders though so I doubt that playing in a few games at season's end would hamper his development. What it would do though is give him some reps and live action experience that IMO could only help him progress. It would also give everyone interested in the team, Pegs, Whaley, the coaches and, yes, the fans, a chance to start evaluating him. The sample size is ridiculously small, but I saw him make a couple of throws in preseason that all evidence would suggest Tyrod is simply unable to do. They were eye popping throws and as good as any you will see a franchise guy make (and it really doesn't matter that he was going against players who may now be flipping burgers). His footwork is often not what you would want to see but if memory serves some of the throws were still good because, though inexperienced, he was reacting quickly as a result of good field vision (he really didn't have time to set up properly, though admittedly ideally he should have) and his ridiculous arm strength compensated for poor mechanics. If he were to see the field you would have to limit the playbook but if not asked to do too much he could perhaps be effective. Not writing off Tyrod by any means and I think that his progression might be hindered by gameplans the coaches think give us the best chance of winning. Nobody wants turnovers but if you don't take chances you are a lot easier to defend. The real problem though may well be that he is not equiped to take those chances with an acceptable risk/reward profile. If that is the case, they have no business exercising that option. Sign a vet and make sure you think hard about drafting QBs.

Let him retire. No doubt Harvin is fast, but lots of marginal players are fast. He has not shown the explosiveness that was his trademark for a long time. I don't think he has ever shown it in a Bills uni. The thing that made him special just isn't there anymore.

Wonder if we would have drafted him if Shanny hadn't done the unexpected. Wonder if we would have drafted Dak if Denver hadn't taken Paxton Lynch and Jerry had. Wonder if we could have should have gone for Russell one round earlier. Always left wondering....oh well.

very entertaining game I must admit with some nastyhits on both sides -Thomas, Butler. Only thing that ruined it for me was seeing Bill and Pete Carroll DFKing after it was over. Rex would never do that.

Having watched both players for years now I've concluded that there is something wrong with these guys. Whatever it is exactly I'm pretty sure it will prevent them from ever becoming good QBs. Tyrod certainly has his issues and may never make it either but I think right now he has more upside.
