I think we have to move past this idea that he can still be successful without an overhaul of his mechanics throwing the football. The great Aaron Rodgers is not good when falls back into his bad habits. -
Not necessarily IMO. When on his game AR is IMO the best QB there is. But TBH I would not want to bet the franchise on him if what we were getting was the guy we saw in the first part of the season. That was not the MVP Aaron or the guy we've seen since they started their run. Whats the difference. Its quite simply the difference between good and bad throwing mechanics. Rodgers has a tendency to fall into bad habits and when he does it costs him and his team dearly. If AVP is responsible for cleaning up his technique and unleashing the Aaron we all know and love, which is a reasonable assumption, then that is an outstanding recommendation in and of itself. He might well be the right guy given our QB situation.

Its great to have a strong arm but when it comes to throwing a ball what goes on below the waist is as important as what you have attached to your shoulder. That is if you want to maximize velocity, touch and accuracy consistently. Consistency in every relevant skillset being the hallmark of a good NFL QB. -

IMO good throwing mechanics are very important tho not sufficient. In other words it is possible to be sound technically and lack the other attributes that are necessary. Oh and if memory serves the Pack worked hard on Rodgers mechanics after he was drafted. -

He's an intriguing prospect for sure. A lot to like. A major concern for me are his poor mechanics throwing the football. I'm a little puzzled by this because as a high school senior he was draftable as a MLB pitching prospect and good mechanics re proper footwork, weight transfer and release point are absolutely essential to throwing a baseball regardless of position but especially if you are a pitcher and even more so if, like him, you specialize in heat instead of junk. Thing is, as some have mentioned, his mechanics are spotty or inconsistent rather than flat out bad. In other words he executes properly sometimes but not always. When he does his passes are beautiful. Playing in college his arm, like Cardale's, is good enuf for him to get the ball where he wants it to go but I for one don't think that would be good enuf in the NFL. So I dont agree that you should take him as is and turn him loose and in that sense I see him as a project. How much of a project idk. The fact that he is more spotty rather than bad suggests that he may well be able to have his bad habits coached out of him without derailing (only adjusting) the rest of his game. Mechanics are all important IMO however. All of the good to great ones essentially have good basic throwing mechanics even if their styles differ, and btw I include P. Rivers in that. The fact that he can be accurate and throw with zip does have some upside tho since the chaos of live action often precludes perfect mechanical execution - happens a lot to some QBs like M. Stafford to mention one. Rodgers is in a class by himself in that regard. I have difficulty even fathoming how a human being can make so many perfect difficult throws while fully on the run. But if you look closely at his footwork when in the pocket, where its easier to see, I think you have to conclude his mechanics are sound even in unusual/extreme circumstances. To me, if you believe his mechanics can be cleaned up, he is a first round prospect and maybe even early. -
What was Antonio Brown thinking
starrymessenger replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I think it could help motivate them. Sure they know they are hated - and therefore derive special pleasure in rubbing their opponents nose in it. I think it was especially stupid because the Steelers have half a chance at least of beating NE. To me the difference in the Houston game was the quality of the players under centre and really not much else. You can like BR the person or leave him but he too is prolly a HOF guy. Big, big difference. -
Watkins retweets: does he want D. Watson?

Have to love Watson's moxy but I think P. Mahomes in the 2nd appeals to me more than him at #10. -

And I distinctly recall Drayton Florence delivering exactly the same message to Marcel Dareus lol. So I guess not all hope is lost. -
The Broncos Have Hired Both McCoy & Musgrave
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The hire makes plenty of good sense. He's a respected QB guru and they've got what - TS and PL. Also a solid succession planning/continuity play if MMc moves on/up and Musgrave does well. Not to mention Broncos are loaded on both sides of the ball. -
Deshaun Watson is the answer
starrymessenger replied to CDogg20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This makes sense to me. His intangibles are off the charts terrific and thats important but based on going an admittedly small sample size (in my case) his accuracy is not. He very clearly needs to develop as a passer IMO. There are no guarantees. If the Bills love the guy and think he has a decent chance of developing I could see them rolling the dice at 10. I have a hard time seeing that the risk is worthy of gutting the front end of a couple of drafts to move up. -

Not a QB guru by any means (a necessary disclaimer). I admire his toughness. He has the arm too, but accuracy looks inconsistent (which in the end usually winds up meaning inaccurate or not accurate enuf to beat NFL defences). No way IMO is he anywhere close to being ready to start and would need a fair bit of grooming, maybe a couple of years. I realize he has much better intangibles than Geno but as a player he reminds me of that guy. I would see him drafted around the same place as Geno was in terms of value. Maybe the pro talent evaluators know better and think differently, but that is my impression. I guess we will see. Really like Mike Williams tho. That one is easy. -
Seeing EJ under centre again yesterday after a lengthy absence brought back real life images of receivers shaking their heads in disbelief after every passing attempt. I had actually forgotten (or maybe repressed that). Maybe I was actually asleep dreaming a horrible nightmare but I thought I saw speech baloons over Watkins, Woods and Clay saying "WTF - where is that ball going?!?!!!"

JG was a second round pick (albeit late). I doubt that the Pats would trade him for less than a first. He has looked good in preseason and in limited in season action. They would know for sure but he certainly looks like he can play. If so I cant imagine them trading him to the Bills. Lynn likes the WC offence and if we had a qb who can execute in that scheme our O (with improvement at RT) could be the best in the league. If they were inclined to trade him I would deal our first pick. With what teams have seen and now know, he would be a first rounder in 2017 IMO.
-
Plus he showed continuing progression/improvement as a passer year over year. Thats what should catch the evaluators eye. Either he is getting better because of the level of competition or he is one of those guys who just keeps improving at the next level regardless of the step up in the degree of difficulty. Looks like DP fell into the last mentioned group. Thats pretty rare so I don't know if teams can be faulted for passing on him, even though if drafted in 2017 he'd be the first player off the board. On the other hand maybe the guys who get to pull the trigger are too conservative (except for Doug who seems to like to roll the dice, ala EJ in the first type thing).

It's time to see what Cardale Jones can do
starrymessenger replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod was not great yesterday. He was great in the second half. In other words he was inconsistent. Clay and Watkins had to make great plays on crucial downs where the balls were poorly thrown, and unnecessarily poorly thrown because they were wide open and if memory serves Tyrod was not under extreme pressure. On the other hand he stood his ground while taking big hits and delivered the ball accurately on a number of other throws. That is pretty hard to do. Its what good throwers do. Its certainly true that doing well against secondarys like Browns and Finns are hardly the best indication of development as a passer but then there is his work with Woods in the Seattle game which is also of recent memory. Does this suggest that the arrow on his passing game is trending up? Is the game from the QB perspective slowing down a bit for him? Idk. How much of his not developing as a passer this year due to gameplans that give us the best chance to win rather than Tyrod's development (run the ball and above all take no chances in the passing game). Idk. What I think I do know is that if Tyrod has it in him to be just an adequate passer capable of making the basic throws consistently, has a RT who can pass pro, has a settled and stable working relationship with the same set of receiving options whose reactions he knows and who know his reactions in real time, then the Bills offence would be extremely productive, unquestionably one of the most dynamic in the league. Should the Bills exercise the option on his contract? Idk. My guess is the Bills will do it, especially if its mostly cash and cap not so much. -
Why would you be happy to have Wentz as your QB. You've already got Tyrod who is better (according to you) lol. You were an EJ diehard right (and who knows maybe still are). Oh yeah, almost forgot, not his fault, somebody must have ruined him. Nuff said.

Franchise guy. Wonder how the Rams feel about their choice. Their fate was in their hands and they let it slip through their fingers. Did the Iggles know better? Or is it really just a crapshoot?
