Yeah absolutely what I thought and expected when it happened. Could not believe how swept up the announcers (and maybe the refs) were by the prospect of another spectacular end game signed Tom Brady. If memory serves I think the network only showed this angle replay once and the others where you didnt see the ball come out and Cooks landing on top of it over and over.

To me a lot depends on a Bill who won't even see the field - Rick Dennison, OC. If the gameplan and playcalling are designed with Tyrod's strengths and not his weaknesses in mind then the Bills have a chance to at least be competitive. Scheme around what he can do, and not what he can't and Taylor can give you enuf to have some success against even a better D than Atlanta has. If Dennison fails to do that we might be looking at a blowout. The D is improved but our secondary is pretty young, hasn't played together much and Atlanta is the most explosive O in the league. Sure hope Dareus is up to it and has a good game. Coleman and Freeman are a very good RB tandem.

Bills were the better team yesterday. Thats why they won.

The 4th and 2 fake punt

I would keep an eye on # 44 D. Lacey. He was a late cut of the Dolphins signed immediately by Buffalo. He was by far the best ST player in the Canadian league and then one of its top linebackers. I will not be surprised if he eventually sees the field on D. I think this guy can play. -
I'm Surprised by Zay Jones' Slow Start

Not worried about Zay Jones. He'll be just fine imo. -

Lacey is a very good player. Watched him in Canada last couple of years. You will be hearing/seeing more of him. -

McD Admits Hard To Watch Sammy Dominate
starrymessenger replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not attempting to be competitive with R. Woods and trading Sammy were not good moves imo. Woods is a solid # 2 who is also one of the best blocking WRs in the game. And the Bills are a running team. Oh but he was paid way over market some say - except of course he wasn't. Compare his contract with that of recent # 2s, idk say Marvin Jones or M. Sanu. Woods got the contract he earned and deserved. Bills were either cheap or stupid. Sammy is always injured wahhh - Julio Jones played fewer games as Sammy his first three years. Why? Well he had the same foot injury as Sammy, from which both players have recovered. Wonder why the Falcons didn't trade him. Hey maybe they are not stupid. Hows that for a concept? I like Zay Jones. He is going to be good. Great kid. I think our receiving corps would have been fine with him, Woods and Sammy. Who is next years franchise guy going to throw the ball to I wonder. Look at the difference with Goff now that he has a better line and a few guys to throw to. -

Bills just found a new way to make me sick: playing lights out while wearing other teams unis. Who said they weren't creative. -
Its early days I know but for now I certainly miss A. Lynn. A lot.

Final Play--- drop or bad throw poll
starrymessenger replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I voted both but if the route called for a cut to the back pilon (I had assumed the front pilon) then the throw was good. I played baseball not football so I don't know how this gets coached up. Front pilon made sense to me because this took the WR further away from the safety and although he was pretty much out of the picture you don't know how close he will be to covering when you call the play. I don't know either whether the QB and the WR are to adjust the route by reading the DB coverage as the play develops (and wound up reading it differently?). Not sure about the alleged contact with Davis. I see Davis flinch but I wonder whether he was reacting to the QB or otherwise reacting to the action in front of him. I see Zay take a short stride but it happens two strides after he passes Davis. -
Zay Jones drops huge catch. <radio edit>

My point was simply that the play was better described as a tough chance rather than a drop. For sure that can be a matter of opinion and opinions can differ. There was no implied criticism of the pass or the passer or at least none was intended. But come to think of it I don't find that Taylor throws a very receiver friendly ball or he frequently does not. Just all part of him not being good at passing the football in spite of his remarkable athleticism I guess. -

I dont call that a drop. A drop is what Brandon Marshall just did (if youre watching mnf). -

Ball is high (helmet level) while sailing away from the receiver. Looks like he got his left (outside) hand on the ball to stop it to then complete the catch with his right hand. Tough chance. -
Why did the bills draft Peterman?

If they had to do it over again I betcha they would take him ahead of Milano. Just a guess. -
Dennison: Tyrod kept us in the game
starrymessenger replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Tyrod kept us in the game it was in spite of his OC. -
Hughes is a very good pass rusher but Matt Kalil has proven to be very vulnerable to a speedrush be it inside or out.

Well although everybody has comfortably settled on Zay as the culprit, I agree that both players were responsible for the poor execution on that play. First of all it was an excellent playcall that worked beautifully except for the result. Dennison lined up Shady (our best player) outside of Zay along the sidelines. This absolutely required the CB (Bradbury?) to line up opposite him and pay close attention. Shady ran a sort of phoney curl but really just designed to hold up the corner and allow Zay to find open space behind him. The play worked beautifully. In effect Zay was covered (at least under) by a linebacker - Thomas Davis. Davis is great but thats a matchup you absolutely want. The corner loses a step as he flinches just long enuf to free Zay into the space behind him. Note the CB was playing the sideline so presumably the sideline area behind him (and away from any safety moving over to cover from the middle of the field) was the area targeted by the pass. This was a designed play with Zay as the first and probably only read imo. Having to avoid the safety confirms to me that the route called was a corner route. Clearly the plan therefore was for Zay to cut it to the sideline (corner) which is what he did. To me Tyrod threw a hybrid pass somewhere between a fly and a corner pattern. It wasn't terrible but I have to wonder whether it was supposed to land 5 to 7 yards inside of the pylon. I like to think Zay might have run a crisper maybe slightly deeper route or turned his head sooner but he really didnt have much time. It was a bang bang play that regrettably didn't work out. Close tho. I wish Dennison would open things up more. Would like to see more of that kind of playcalling. My two cents. -

Absolutely not concerned about Zay Jones. He is going to be a very productive WR and very possibly a star. -

Agree you have to look beyond the #s. He was also for the most part playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers. While the numbers don't shine he not only made quick decisions and had better chemistry with his WRs (esp Zay) but he also made some throws that Tyrod does not. Mind you I dont disagree with the decision to not start him against that Panthers front. -

Thats also how I see it. Assuming D opened up his playbook for NP, there would be a greater risk/reward profile. Exactly how much more risk or reward? Hard to say.
