Andy Benoit on Bills and draft

Also hoping he can turn the corner. One is seduced into thinking he can because he is such a great athlete. I'm hoping but not holding my breath. -
Andy Benoit on Bills and draft

Right. People like to say, with some justification, that putting up points has not been the problem, but just imagine how productive the O could be if we had an NFL calibre passer (especially if we pick a stud WR #10). How much more competitive we would be when trying to come from behind, especially late in games (we are so easy to defend in those situations). -
Pats sign Gillislee to offer sheet

Looking at it more from the Pats point of view for a moment, I find their interest in MG as a foil to/replacement for Blount interesting. I would never doubt their ability to improvise and get the best out of the talent at their disposal but while MG and LB are both capable of contributing to a NFL offence they are very different backs. -

He needs to improve his route running as many have said and his game will benefit. But there are few, very very few college players, no matter how talented, who come to the next level as finished products. They are all WIP. I think he is a safe pick. -

He's not Calvin Johnson, but who is. He's not slow at all for a big man. More likely he will be having DBs for lunch than the other way round. -
Christian McCaffrey - Darkhorse pick

Yeah, now that you mention it, if they go in that direction. Fournette is in a different class tho than say Brandon Jacobs. -

Jacksonville is a team with many holes to fill. Bortles has hardly shown himself to be franchise material. So if the Jags pick LF at 4 are they making a stupid mistake? Should they be thinking QB instead? Obviously its a team sport so no single elite player, not even a QB, is going to singlehandedly turn a franchise around if too many of the other cogs are substandard or the coaching is lacking. Do you think Brady would have fared as well on the Bills? Sure you can find very good running backs later in a draft but there is a big difference between a very good running back and a bona fide franchise back who can carry a team a long way as far as his contribution is concerned. I look forward to seeing Fournette destroy those lightweight DBs in the AFC South. -

No bad guy type character issues but some have questioned his desire to be great, without which he won't be at the next level. I have no idea if there is any foundation to this in fact. -

Elway was a great QB and the Broncos weren't getting it done. Terrell Davis was the difference maker. I get it that he was a sixth round pick (so was Tom Brady) but that surely didn't reflect his value. In a traditional NFL offence a HoF back is definitely worthy of a top 10 pick and if the Vikes never made it to the promised land it certainly wasn't because they blew their # 7 pick in 2007. And thats why many project LF to Jack at # 4. -

Casserly says Allen is the real deal and will be better than Julius Peppers. If 2 QBs go top ten who knows he could be there. -

Yes and thats not the first time its been said and it makes a lot of sense. Howard would also be a worty pick at 10 IMO. -
Reuben Foster Failed Drug Test at Combine
starrymessenger replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please. I have no hate for the Tide. I prolly admire the product Saban puts on the field year in and year out more than any other college program. I love their swag. If I pull against them sometimes its out of respect for their greatness and a desire to see the underdog pull an upset (I have no affiliation). And of course players from all teams can and do screw up majorly, but there have been concerns/questions about lapses in discipline at Bama for a number of years running now. And maybe the spotlight shines a bit more brightly on them because some of their screw ups have been very or relatively high end prospects like McClain, Dareus, and now CK. In the later two cases it hits uncomfortably close to home. So when Foster has a bad look at the combine and follows up with a bonehead failed drug test it can become a case of twice bitten thrice shy. -

We are not the Steelers. For some reason (we're just not good enuf) we are unable to find the mid to late round gems at the WR position. So I'm fine with risk managing the pick by going for a consensus legit high to mid first round guy, provided that we don't pay twice the freight if you know what I mean. I agree there re lots of holes and lots of talent at the front end of the draft, so where are you inclined to go with our first pick. -

Huh? A guy with RF's skill set is exactly what we need in coach's scheme. Or maybe you were just kidding? Question is, who is this guy? Donta Hightower or Rolando McClain. Care to roll the dice? -

This is a serious red flag. He will drop, only question is how much. Can certainly see the Bills being gun shy after the Marcel experience. He could even be off their board for all I know. -

Prefer Davis but I think they both can develop into legit # 1 targets. Would be happy with either one. Williams is a beast. -

God what is it with these Bama guys? Still if he drops like a stone and is there for us in the second (which I doubt), I'd be sorely tempted. -

Agreed, but where were those guys drafted (and I realize that Hill might have gone in the 3rd but for the baggage)? He is a premium talent (not to mention a really great kid) and in the right system he could well flourish. But I think you can find guys to fill that role in the pros sooner than find a franchise back like AP or LF, who is IMO the only RB likely to go top 10. -
Brandt:. "Three 1st Round QB locks".
starrymessenger replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And if he doesn't pan out you grab another one. You do it until you find your guy. I really can't fathom the contrary arguments. It should be normal course draft management and policy. I don't like Watson (as a prospect - he is a super kid) but at the end of the day if the Bills feel he has a decent chance I don't question their taking a chance on him. Would rather MT or PM but would be fully onside with the philosophy and would get behind him 100%. -
To me its a no brainer. SW is a great player who will stay healthy and perform admirably for the next two years. The reason I think this? Money. He needs to show the league that he can see the field consistently in order to sign a mega contract when his rookie deal is up, whether with the Bills or another team. I dont think anybody doubts his ability/skill set. I guess I'm saying I really dont think he is made of glass. Has had some bad luck and perhaps been a little careless.

Interesting article evaluating Trubisky & Watson
starrymessenger replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with what CF has written. I think that MT is the prospect that best projects to the next level from this years class. I also think he is a top 10 pick and the first QB off the board. I think he may be gone to SF at 2 if they do not find their QB in NE or Washington, though that would probably be a bad spot for him because he may be pressured to start too early and despite his high ceiling (IMO) he is in no way ready for that. Or the Jets may pick him at six. If he is there at 10 I think the Bills may well take the plunge and if they are inclined to go QB early I hope he is the guy. I would be depressed if Watson was an early Bills pick, or indeed if he were picked at all. As for Kizer we dont need another big athletic QB who is an inaccurate passer. MT has flaws to his game, specifically holding onto the ball too long and a startling failure to read a defence at times, leading to potentially disastrous, game changing results. This raises the main risk and concern. If these have been the issues in college there is of course the possibility that they will only get worse what with the speed and complexity of the pro game. Whoever picks him early believes or is hoping that these flaws are mostly explained by his being a one year starter and that his proven skill set will permit him to adjust eventually. Even Peyton Manning was a turnover machine his rookie year, and it took M.Ryan awhile to adjust. -

Not sure I agree. To me the top prospects are the ones I mentioned and there is no way IMO that they are around in rd 2. The Bills already are short of picks this year relative to the postions they need to address so I dont see them trading up. If you are really serious about a QB to me you just go and get him. Or do you think they may be setting up to trade back and still nab the guy they want. Risky? -

I agree. The fact that Pegs was on his horse checking out these prospects spoke volumes to me. So who do you think it is and what is the value spot? My gut tells me its MT or maybe Mahomes and the spot has to be 10.
