  1. I'm willing to give Beane the benefit of the doubt that someday Allen will be the QB that Rosen already is, however unlikely that may be.
  2. Unlike many I like Allen as a prospect and always regarded him as a legitimate first round QB. But he's not a guy I would trade up for and I'm having a hard time with Beane passing on Rosen. I mean we now have to hope that Allen will be able to do the things that Rosen already excels at doing. So why not go for the finished product who has already proven that he can do what you can only hope Allen can accomplish? It's taking on a lot of risk for relatively little additional upside. I mean the extra arm strength and mobility is definitely a nice to have but these guys are both pocket passers and Rosen is by far the best one in this class.
  3. Rosen/Edmunds would have been a first round made in heaven. Troy Aikman said Rosen is the most polished passer he has ever seen and was worthy of #1 overall. He also said that in all his years playing and watching the game he has never seen a QB with Allen's issues succeed. I don't hate Allen but I have a hard time understanding why they would pass on Rosen. Seeing him sitting there looked like a repeat of Aaron Rodgers on draft day. Kudos to the Cards. They ain't so stupid.
  4. I find this strange. I can easily understand Jackson not being their guy but it sounds as though they didn't really even scout him during Louisville's 2017 campaign and evidently have not followed up at all this draft season either. For a QB needy team to show no interest whatsoever in a Heisman trophy winning QB who has a first round grade just seems odd to me. Must be they are totally disinterested in QBs in the Vick mould or agree with Polian & Co that he is a WR. Or just maybe......we're in the twilight zone...
  5. Don't quite agree with the Ben comparisons (except for size/weight). If he reaches his potential he looks more like Elway to me. And if he is on the board at #5 I think Elway will draft him. Denver has a good 2 year bridge QB and I don't think Paxton Lynch is the guy.
  6. I think if Darnold played in the Mountain West on that Wyoming team working that offensive scheme behind that O-line with those receivers and running game he'd look very similar to Josh Allen.
  7. I don't worry about Allen at 5 because I think Elway would draft and develop him.
  8. To me he's got "franchise guy" tattooed on his forehead. It saddens me to say but I have a hard time seeing Gettleman passing on him (assuming he is there at #2) in favour of Barkely or Chubb (or any other QB). Sure hope I'm wrong about that.
  9. If there is any truth to the rumour that the Bills offered 12, 22 and next year's first, then, good as Barkely is, I can't see the Giants passing that deal up to draft a running back, especially in a draft that is already deep at the position. You only do that if you are looking to draft Eli's successor. Of course maybe Beane never actually made that offer.
  10. Interesting feedback from Jets message board given all the Baker to the Jets hype. Although Mayfield has his vociferous supporters as far as the posts are concerned, in a poll I think it was 73% of fans preferred Rosen. That might align with responses on this and other team boards. It's only the fans opinion tho.
  11. Maybe not 1983 but it looks like a good and a very deep QB class. There are at least a couple of second tier guys who could make it, at least as solid backups - White, Lauletta, Ferguson- and maybe even develop into starters. Top 5 all going round 1.
  12. Plenty of good tape, but it may be misleading. In assessing risk people are forgetting that there is a significant possibility that he is a scheme baby whose skills will not translate to the NFL as a long term starter. It's easy to see the risks associated with Allen. It's easy to overlook the risks with Mayfield. All of these guys are risky picks, but for different reasons.
  13. Bills are not targeting Mayfield IMO. I think they might even take Allen ahead of "the most accurate passer in this year's class" if given the chance.
  14. From the tape, analyst podcasts and the other usual sources my impression is that Jackson has often demonstrated good field vision, the ability to go thru his progressions, throw with anticipation and at least show an understanding of and a sensitivity to the importance of ball placement (though he does not always execute accordingly). Idk if he came across as dumb before the whiteboard and how that may have struck evaluators. I heard the same report tho. My sense of it is that he may very well have all the "football" smarts you need to develop as a NFL QB. Im sure I'm wrong a lot when it comes to this arcane science but he looks like a terrific prospect to me. But one might expect the Bills to prefer the finished product ie Rosen rather than gambling on Lamar getting there. JRs at the top of my list.
  15. Your welcome. For what it's worth (probably not much) I don't think Jackson is out of the discussion as a pocket passer and therefore someone who might interest Beane. Right now the only throw he makes on a consistently accurate basis is the inside slant. He can make all other required throws but his accuracy is inconsistent, especially on out patterns. Some analysts are of the view that his flaws re lower body mechanics are very correctable. Beane's moves can be interpreted as a gigantic Lamar smokescreen ie don't bring him in, move to 12 to leap frog Zona, feign interest in moving up etc...but obviously that's a real stretch. I actually think they may be more intrigued with Allen than with Lamar.
  16. Rosen but I think the Bills would be happy with either him or Darnold. Both guys project as bona fide starters with "franchise" ceilings. Allen's ceiling is "elite" but the odds are against his ever getting there. Having said that, if Allen drops to 12, which may be unlikely, I would not be stunned if Beane drafted him. He's not much of a fan favourite but I think much of the hype is a genuine reflection of how at least some pro evaluators see him as a prospect.
  17. Yep. If Allen is there at 5 I have a hard time seeing Elway passing on him.
  18. Yeah and this is why I think a Lamar smokescreen is still a possibility (though remote). Like Cam he has given indications that he can learn to execute from the pocket. He has shown improvement year over year. And if he is to develop as a pocket passer he would be better off doing that behind AJ rather than Tyrod.
